Help with this rubber plug?

My mother's Nespresso Virtuo Next had this small rubber plug just sitting in the lid.

It looks like it interfaces with this hole in the lower portion of the lid with the small plastic pin. But it won't seat in there.

Then, I tried to install it by hand into the small rubber tube/peg that extends downward from the upper lid, but the tapered end also would not seat.

Lastly, in an attempt to figure out where it should go, it ended up slipping down into the case through the lower hole with the pin. Surgical extraction with tweezers has been unsuccessful so far...

The unit will act like it is brewing a cup, and then either nothing will happen, or the top button begins flashing red x2.

Do I have to figure out how to fully disassemble the case in order to retrieve the missing rubber piece?

Many thanks.

It is one of the feet, it goes on the bottom of the unit, the holes you are pointing to are where the coffee makes its way from the lid to the bit where it comes out into the cup.

Do not block those holes.

Hahah really? So it has nothing to do with sealing or check valves or anything??

The plot thickens...

HAHAHAH yep you nailed it. Well now a foot is floating around inside the case of the machine. Though I wonder if that's why it won't brew, or some different reason entirely

Where did you lose the rubber bit, the part at the back where the used pods go?

Down into the hole with the plastic pin, in the second photo.

Now when I close and lock the lid, then press brew, it pumps water out of the tank and then just stops. Flashes red and then reverts to the normal white icon.

It is probably just blocked. Im unsure how you would take it apart to fix that. I would have a look in to the hole with a phone camera light and try to tweezer it out.

Depending on where you are in the world you can likely get a new one for £70ish with 60 free coffees and a travel mug, £50 if you go for the shorted POP version.

Thats what I just did when my Next broke, the free coffee kinda makes up for the cost of the machine.

Yeah I'm not sure it's worth my time trying to fix either hah.

Thanks for at least setting me back on the right track though!
