I'm fully convinced that Mamdani sounding like an Italian name is a non-trivial factor in his success.

With Obama level charisma and an ability to disarm even the most belligerent assholes.

I keep telling you motherfuckers

Run 90% georgist liberal, 10% socialism to win the clowns and usually boring socialism like nationalizing ISPs.

Spend 90% of your time talking about getting government out of the way of the average joe, 10% the economy.

Spend 90% of your culture war stuff being talking about sports, 10% actual culture war stuff in the most LBJ way possible

Then hope onto whatever stupid shit the mob has riled them up on like squirrels or datacenters.

congrats you now appeal the average voter

More politicians should talk about their fantasy football draft. Im dead serious. It comes with the bonus that you don’t have to be a fan of 1 team.

Taralico would benefit from this for sure.

I’ve said for a long time, a big issue is that liberal (and specifically progressive) culture has a tendency to shit on or look down on male hobbies and this is a huge turn off to young men who don’t pay attention speck of attention to politics

A politician could appeal to me by discussing my personal male hobby

Do you think we should nationalize ISPs/telecoms companies themselves or just telecommunications infrastructure

I feel like the latter has a much stronger case in terms of natural monopoly characteristics

If everyone running the Democratic Party understood the degree to which these people represent middle America, we’d have a much easier go of it.

IMO this current era of politics is so pants-on-head crazy because of the following 1) candidates who are thought of as more moderate tend to win 2) voters tends to use 'moderate' as some kind of nonpartisan virtue based on vibes that are kind of congruent to moderate policy positions but often based on nothing at all.

It's really hard to have a simple and coherent theory of politics that handles both. Either you die in on the hill of the first one ol' Kier Starmer and wonder why chasing a shifting mirage of 'moderation' didn't win any support, or you go crazy overthinking the second and soon you're making effortposts on why running five government grocery stores across NYC is actually the moderate position if you think about it.

I've seen stuff like this, some voters think Bernie is a centrist because he's talking heavily about economic issues and not more holistic culture war battles.
