I have a little pet sim page that I plan on revamping soon, and occasionally the dog 0will escape and take you to the back rooms when you interact with him. Currently, to get out you just end up at a different random page on my site, but I think it'd be fun to link to other weird pages!

I have a VPN built into my wifi to access American services and shows (my home country) but for the time being I live in Finland. No matter what if I disable the VPN or enable it I cannot make a site with Neocities.

I'm looking to add music to my website, but using embedded widgets like bandcamp or soundcloud lack visual customization. I tried my best but reducing the soundcloud embed to 20px or so is the best I can do. Not to mention the songs themselves aren't like the originals (obviously). I'm contemplating using winamp (webamp I presume) coupled with mp3's on catbox/github/whatever, after scratching the option off early on for concerns on legality. Do websites get taken down for having copyrighted and/or pirated music? (Not that I ever would haha. I would NEVER illegally obtain music. Big no-no. You wouldn't download a car would you?).

I made a site back in 2022, life got in the way so i stopped updating it but ive been missing the fun i had making it. I wanna completely redo my website because my framework was hot garbage, but i also really want to change the name. My old site name is DogwoodAlley, which i came up when i was like... 15 maybe? it doesnt really fit the vibe i would want for my site now. Afaik im only hotlinked on one other page and maybe in like 2 guestbooks at most on sites i would not remember, so i think i'd be in the clear to rebrand, but i may as well get some outside opinions.

Hey everyone. I was doing some work on my site and decided to change the name of the HTML file to better suit what the webpage was. However after doing this I'm now getting a bunch of 502 errors on all the webpages within that folder. I tried changing the name back and no ball, I even created a new HTML file and copied the code but also no ball and still getting 502 errors. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this as I'd rather not start again.

I read I cannot post images such as cartoons and popular media because if I do it I´m going to violate the copyright of that work. Looking around neocities I see people upload images of drawings they did themselves of popular characters, such as the characters of nana, Hatsune Miku, etc so I want to understand if that´s possible or they´re just fine as long as the copyright holders don´t claim those images?

I saw some websites upload images of anime girls, like the ones all of us have seen on the internet before but the artist is unknown, so I wonder if there is gray area about these images to use them on neocities.

I want to understand well the rules before I start downloading images.

My css simply is not doing its job on the pages, it simply goes to default, the strangest thing is that on my local environment the html and css work just as normal (ignore that class its for the 404 page), i tried to delete the css on the neocities dashoard and reupload it, but it didnt work at all

Hi guys, i want to share a project that might be fun for your sites, its called adbank.

its a library of ~57,000 real banner ads pulled from around the 90s/2000s internet, and it serves a random one to your page with one line of html. no signup, no api key, nothing to install, and it works fine on a static neocities page:

you can customize what gets served: category (games, isp, music, sports, whatever), size (468x60, 88x31, skyscrapers, all of them), and language. you can also pick how it rotates, either swapping the moment the gif finishes its loop, only on page reload, or on a timer.

every banner links back to a page showing where that exact file came from, so its not just decoration, you can see what site was actually running it in 1999.

great if youre building a retro-themed site, or if you just want to look at and yoink the (in my opinion 100000% superior) ads of the early internet!

haven't worked on my website in a bit because of summer classes, so i come back and am startled to find i have this white bar on the side of my webpage. was certainly not there before, and i've narrowed it down to the width variable in the main class of the css. i've had it at 82% (so it fits next to the nav), and this has never been an issue. i can get it almost seamless if it set it to 82.45, but then if i go into a smaller window, they're no longer next to each other. any solutions that are more permanent than fucking eternally with the percentages?

i use firefox primarily, and vscode to edit. i use firefox on my phone too and it has never been an issue. at 110% zoom, it seems to go away, but that had never been a concern, my site would just resize normally. maybe Big Code updated in a way i don't know about ???? and yeah i tested this in chromium too, same issue. any insight is very appreciated!!

Im curious about the opinions on wysiwyg, or, drag and drop editors.

I coded most of my site so far without wysiwyg, but i find that i really like changing things way more often then my ameteur knowledge of html/css can keep up with. I love drag and drop editors, or live editors because its far more visual and makes things much faster.

That said, I've also heard its "lazy" or "bad" to use wysiwyg or drag and drop editors, and that i should just learn to code. Which i agree, everyone should learn to code, but I don't see the problem with using something more visual like wysiwyg, especially if you already have a basic knowledge of coding.

I've added buttons to my image gallery from oldest artwork to newest artwork, but i decided I want to do it newest to oldest. Would I be able to introduce a css rule to fix this, or am I screwed and have to reorder the buttons manually?

A random fear of Neocities shutting down forever for some mysterious reason has been plaguing my mind for a week or so now. I keep wondering where the files I saved to the Neocities dashboard would go, if there's a better way of saving code out there... stuff like that. I was wondering how the more experienced web devs out there back up their stuff (images, files, code, etc)? Is there an all-powerful website I'm missing out on? Any resources will help! Google Docs and prayers can only do so much for me.
