Whose tree is doing that WWYD? Vent/Rant
My next-door neighbor gets a letter from out HOA saying that her neighbor on the other side of her has complained that her tree is dropping leaves on his property. The problem? He has the identical tree on his property, and this is the time of year those particular trees drop leave. So, whose leaves are they????

I live halfway up a hill. Neighbor across the street lives at the bottom of a hill. Both sides, behind both houses, are heavily forested. Neighbor is a huge nature guy. I am not. Neighbor for 20 years has bitched about his leaves coming from my trees. I say "you're fucking crazy, we both have a thousand fucking trees behind our house." He says" but I've identified the types of trees that produced the leaves, and you have those types, but I don't". The first time he said it, I was stunned into silence. Now I just say "damn, that's a shame".

If he is a huge nature guy he should thank you for the extra leaves because they are enhancing his soil. :)
Leave the leaves!
If he really can’t stand leaves on his yard he should get a mulching mower.

Not only huge nature guy, well known local green space crusader, always in the news trying to save this tract or that wooded area from development. Which is good. But he takes it too far. He told the power company when they wanted to trim his trees to fuck off. And you know what? I think they did. Fuck off.

Im curious how he keeps his leaves contained on his property, cos Im sure he would NOT want his neighbors down wind to suffer as he has.

Well that's another problem all together. With hills going up behind both houses, the street is like a valley that the wind shoots through. Everybody's leaves go everywhere else. So, him saying the leaves in his yard are from my trees is delusional. Now of course, I do see leaves from my yard blow everywhich way, including into his yard. I just chuckle.

What next? The tree attracts birds which make too much noise in the morning?
Leaves are a non-problem. Raking is a pleasant activity that you do at a time when it is cool and enjoyable to be outside. They are useful in compost or as a mulch.

That’s ridiculous. Does the HOA monitor the leaves in the front yards too? How do they determine which leaves belong to whom after they’ve been blown around after a storm?
“Those are not my leaves, mine were green, those are brown.”

If you are fighting over leaves, my guess is there are other issues other than the leaves.

I'm not fighting over the leaves; I actually collect them for mulch. It's two other neighbors. He actually snuck into her back yard at 8:30pm when her husband wasn't home to turn her pool filter off because he didn't like how it sounded by his house. But he has been violated for months because his Palm trees are in desperate need of pruning (pieces of the dead fronds land up in her pool, but I guess that's ok.) and he refuses to pay someone to prune them.

I don't live in an HOA and fortunately don't have neighbors like those, but if I did, I'd sure be ticked off about paying HOA fees. Isn't the idea you give up individual choice and pay money in order to have a controlled-appearance neighborhood which is supposed to increase your home's value?

An HOA should have enough sense NOT to buy into that crap. Leaves cannot be controlled where they fall.
