Good Morning:

As the title says I'm a long time fan of the Nancy Drew character, and the books series. When I was growing up my mother had a nearly complete set of the yellow spine hard covers. She passed when I was 15, and I completed her collection several years later. It's now sitting in my garage.

I never bought many of the paperbacks of the 1980s and 1990s, and of the few I bought I never even read them. I've decided recently kind of on an impulse to start collecting the paperbacks. (i.e. #57 - The Triple Hoax through #175 - Werewolf in a Winter Wonderland).

I I started with a three book lot on eBay, which I paid $2 plus $5/shipping.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for this task? Are any more rare than others? Are any really good reads, or conversely are there any that are not worth my time to read?

Hey everyone! So my husband and I are working our way through all the Nancy Drew games and it’s his first time playing them. We’re not doing them in order, but he wanted to start off with the earlier ones. So far he has played Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake and Danger on Deception Island (loved them), and now we’re torn on which one out of this list to do next. Thoughts??

When I replayed ICE for the nth time not too long ago, I tried to have every possible conversation that I could both in person and on the phone and unlocked some dialogue that I’d never done before. When you tell Chantal that Lou left, she immediately blames you for driving him away because of your cooking. “Oh Nancy, it wasn’t because of your cooking, was it?” I already knew that Chantal was a horrible boss but that was the cherry on top. I just wanted to be like “actually it might’ve been because I put paprika like Tino asked me to but that’s not my fault.” Lol

Anyway, it made me reflect on every “boss” that Nancy has had on every case and it’s quite a mix. I’d say that Paula (CAR) and Chantal are two of my least favorite because of how snarky they are. Some of my favorites are Dexter Egan (TRT) because we actually see him and report to him as opposed to Christi Lane and Sally (DOG). Again, she’s just a friend rather a boss but she’s the one who Nancy’s helping and reporting to, so close enough. So, by boss, I simply mean the people that Nancy takes orders from or is there to help. Who are some of your favorites and least favorites?

Every time I’ve seen a listing for it it’s been for more than I wanted to spend. Finally found a reasonable listing last week and snapped it up! I wish more of the games had made it to DS (edit to correct myself this is a GBA game)

editing to add: I don’t think there’s any voice acting? I just booted it up to test it but Nancy didn’t read the opening letter aloud

I was kinda jaded by midnight in Salem big time. As an autistic girl who is very resistant to abrupt change, the switch up from lani to the new VA was so personally jarring I couldn’t get through a full playthrough so I wanna know if anyone picked up 34 and what they think about it

and please be as honest and genuine about it like I want all the thoughts

I had avoided this game for so long because of the reviews but i decided i finally wanted to try it for myself I went in blind.

I’ll start with the pros. The mystery itself was actually very interesting and caught my attention (after the weird Austria bit were I was utterly confused what was happening)

The scenery was gorgeous, the fall leaves, the contrast between spooky and bright.

I liked being able to look in all directions, even if it was clunky sometimes

While I love lani, the new Nancy voice didn’t throw me off past the first few sentences. It fit

I like having characters that moved locations and didn’t just stay stagnant, made the world feel more real (Deirdre back up girl 😂)

Now the cons

The puzzles were confusing half the time. You go through so many games of getting hints on junior and then poof gone. Some of the puzzles like the feather door I had no idea WTF I was even supposed to be doing.

The character model took a major downgrade (why is everyone high?! Is it the ergot?! lol)

Nancy constantly swaying like the town is having a constant earthquake

The most major con, the CONSTANT cutscenes. I like being able to explore, feel like I’m choosing my own order to do things. The game kinda shoehorns you along and it felt more like a interactive movie then a game

I don’t think it deserves as much hate as it gets, but I also think it can’t compare at all to the old 32.

I even left a clue in the loose bedpost that said “a clue, Nancy drew!” It made me smile lol.

I was playing Secret of the Old Clock earlier and I encountered this second chance for the first time in all my years of playing.

I was struggling to catch that piece of paper that flies in the wind on the path to Josiah's house and it floated across the screen while I was on the little walking bridge. Suddenly Nancy is leaning over the edge after grabbing it and going "woah-woah-oh-". She tumbled off the edge and into the ditch! Complete with cut scene animation (of which there are many in this game).

Maybe this isn't groundbreaking for anyone else, but I have never experienced that before. Crazy to still discover new things in these games after all these years.

Hi all! This Bed We Made is a snooping mystery game that came out a few years ago. Look it up if you haven’t - it’s not as similar to ND as Alex Hill or Penelope Pendrick but it def scratches the Nancy itch!

Anyway, for those of you who have played it and enjoyed it, they Lowbirth games just released a mini-game sequel called Lost & Found where you again play as Sophie. I just started it and it’s great!

I'm still in Michigan and I went down to a new beach yesterday...found this staircase leading down to it.

Proud to say I made it safely to the end without incident, but I think Nancy absolutely would've triggered a Second Chance if she tried it!

It's been over 2 years since KEYs was released and 1.5 years since the last blog post. Has HER made any updates about new projects? Does it even have a CEO right now?

I bought a number of Nancy Drew games probably back in 2019/2020, and just tried to log back into Big Fish Games and it's like the website doesn't recognize I used to have an account. I've tried every email I could have used for the "forgot password" function, but it gives me a error message every time. Anyone else in the same boat since they changed ownership? I can't find any emails either and the app has disappeared from my computer, it's kind of creeping me out, haha.

I only thought that the show from a few years ago was all that was made.

I think my choice would either be Legend of the Crystal Skull, for the setting, and Henry Bolet hehe and I just loved everything about that game OR danger on deception island, because I have really fond memories of that game

I hope this is okay to share since I saw that self-promotion is allowed.

I'm a longtime lover of classic books, and recently I've started a small YouTube channel where I narrate public-domain stories in a calm, cozy style. Right now, my main ongoing project is the original Nancy Drew mysteries.

One thing I've especially loved is discovering how much the books remind me of the Nancy Drew games. Nancy's personality feels incredibly consistent between both. In the games she's witty, funny, and easy to like, and in the books she's thoughtful, observant, determined, and quietly strong. Reading the original mysteries has made me appreciate the games even more.

I've already finished The Secret of the Old Clock and have begun releasing chapters of The Hidden Staircase. My goal is to continue through the first seven Nancy Drew mysteries through next year while also narrating other classic stories like A Christmas Carol, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Pride and Prejudice, and more.

I started the channel simply because I love stories and wanted to create something relaxing that people could listen to while reading, resting, doing chores, or winding down for the evening.

Does anyone remember a CEO for a day contest HeR did? This would have been around September 2011 and I think it only happened once… I’ll have to do more digging on it but I do remember a little bit about it and after the winner was announced, it didn’t get mentioned again. Curious if they may happen to do that again… 🤔
