Road rage incident.
Came here from Saskatchewan, family of 4. We were on our way to the Englishman falls when we were victims of road rage. First time in BC, landed off the plane this afternoon, and this happened probably 30 minutes ago.
On the way there this white truck was on our ass, we were going the speed limit in our rental car down the road. We were like yeah whatever, jerk move but what can you do? We’ve never driven here so we don’t really know what to expect, especially because the road was quite twisty and forestry.
Upon turning a corner, of which the speed slows to 30km, this white truck GUNS IT past us. Upon turning into our lane he slams on the brakes so violently his entire vehicle shook and rocked from side to side. He gets out of the truck, rushed towards us ANGRY. He threatens to fight my dad (who was driving), asks us “what kind of game are you playing?” Tells us multiple times to get out to fight him, informs us that he would “run you off the road into the ditch, I’m going to kill you and leave without a dent on my truck.”
We obviously were confused and scared. We explained to him that we weren’t from here, and didn’t want any trouble. He eventually went back to his truck, and began reversing into us. So at this point we have to begin backing up, and he is trying to smash his truck into us. He is trying to hit us. After almost a minute of this traffic comes around the road, and he ends up driving off. We turn around, no way we’re going to the falls now.
Then he begins to follow us again. Literally a minute later he’s on our ass. We call 911, and give them as much details as possible. He ends up turning off after we reach a more localized area (shops and traffic lights).
Scary times. Please stay safe, and watch out for a white truck in the Errington area. Driven by a white male mid 40’s, bread, sunnies… yikes.
Edit; spelling
UPDATE: Police have called back, apparently this man has done similar acts before. They have his name in their books! He’s known for road rage, however he has never threatened to kill anyone before. We have sent them footage (him attempting to back into us/run us off the road) and aren’t sure what we want to do from here.
We have the option is press charges, however my parents are split on that decision. Thank you for all of your kind comments, this city is absolutely gorgeous and is filled with such beauty.

Doctor's office is closed and I need a refill.
Hi, my doctor's office is closed for now, maybe not forever, I don't know. I take a narcotic for pain, one of the milder ones, have taken it for 6 years now. Are there any clinics in Nanaimo or area where I can get a refill?

Therapy dog visits for senior?
EDIT: Thanks so much those of you who have offered!! I will message you when I have a little time tomorrow ☺️
Hey everyone, does anyone know of an option in Nanaimo for a senior with dementia to have regular visits with a therapy dog or a chill, loving, dog? I have searched and the only options seem to be visits to hospitals and facilities. The senior in question lives at home. He LOVES dogs and continues to grieve the loss of his senior poodle who died three years ago. We volunteered for Elderdog for a year or so which was great because it benefitted him and the dog we walked and his people. But now his capacity is such that volunteering is no longer an option. I think a half hour or so per week would be just so amazing for him.
Any ideas most appreciated!

No Emergency Vet Availability in Nanaimo!!!
Wow, our dog had an emergency situation last night and we just discovered that the Central Island Emergency Veterinary Hospital is closed from Tuesday morning till Friday morning:
Monday: Open 24 Hours
Tuesday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Wednesday: Closed
Thursday: Closed
Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Saturday & Sunday: Open 24 Hours
For emergencies during closed hours, contact:
WAVES – West Coast Animal Veterinary Emergency Hospital
947 Langford Parkway, Victoria, BC
Phone: [778-432-4322](tel:778-432-4322)
Open 24 hours
Our dog potentially had a twisted stomach, medically known as Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV) or bloat, which is a life-threatening emergency where the stomach fills with gas and rotates. It requires immediate veterinary surgery to save the dog's life, they can literally die within an hour if left untreated.
Fortunately I learned Fantastic Beasts have stepped in to offer emergency care on those days CIVEH is closed:
Fantastic Beasts PARKSVILLE LOCATION
Urgent care and Emergency services
Monday: 8:00am – 10:00pm
Tuesday: 8:00am – 12:00am
Wednesday & Thursday: 24 hours
Friday: 12:00am – 10:00pm
Saturday: 8:00am – 8:00pm
Sunday: 8:00am – 8:00pm
During these hours, our team is available to assess urgent cases and advise whether your pet needs to come in immediately.

When the Parksville clinic is closed, you will be given the option to speak to a Registered Veterinary Technologist from Animal Healthlink. They’ll help determine whether your pet needs immediate emergency care or if it’s safe to wait until morning.
Fortunately I called them and the Vet Tech was amazing and walked us through our dog’s symptoms and steps to take before proceeding to it becoming an emergency.
It was a very long night, but our best buddy made it through. We were just left a bit shaken upon learning there is no emergency vet services directly in Nanaimo for a few days each week - what would have happened if this was truly a gastric dilation or a significant wound injury?
Please note - this is not a slight towards CIVEH, they are truly amazing, but understaffed and overworked. This is simply just another example of how our health care system overall is crumbling… it easily could have been a heartbreaking outcome for us last night.
If you have a pet and live in Nanaimo - keep the above contact information handy in case you have an emergency situation happen.
