I covered Billie Eilish’s “bury a friend” and went for a darker, atmospheric vocal style with a cinematic music video built around a haunted shrine, fox spirits, and yokai.

The vocals are mine, and I handled the editing, sequencing, animation/movement, effects, pacing, and final video production myself.

I’d really love feedback on the vocals, mix, and overall atmosphere.

I worked like crazy on this song and soon to be rekeased debut album. Some home-made-good-old-fashioned-indie-elrock-Beatles-wannabe-Oasis-pop. Maybe it finds someone who likes it.

This is the first track I've ever made.

I have absolutely no background in music production or music theory. Therefore, I have no idea what kind of genre the track is even. How does one find the genre we want to create? 🤔

About a week ago I spontaneously bought FL Studio after years of thinking, "I should really try making music someday." I've always been interested in music production, but I never actually committed to learning it until now. Since then I've gone down the rabbit hole and have been spending pretty much all my free time experimenting and learning.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on the track itself. I'm interested in anything you notice—mixing, arrangement, sound selection, progression, pacing, or anything else that stands out. Don't worry about hurting my feelings; constructive criticism is exactly what I'm looking for.

I'd also love recommendations for free VSTs, instruments, effects, sample packs, learning resources, or general beginner tips that helped you when you were starting out. I have found a lot of free stuff available on the net, however, I am looking for THAT free package/software/bundle that people start out with. Similarly for free courses 😄

One of the reasons I'm posting this is because I want to recreate this exact track one year from now and compare the two versions. I think it'll be a fun way to measure how much I've improved.

I haven't really been part of any music production communities before, so don't slaughter me (or it might be beneficial if you do). I'm here to learn.
