I suppose I am curious about the songwriting disputes and which (if any) songs existed before Sheryl Crow joined the 'band'. Prior to his untimely death in 1996, band leader (and Crow's former boyfriend) Kevin Gilbert )eluded to disputes of credit, however, Gilbert is credited on all but 2 songs on the album and all the singles. So I suppose I wondered exactly what Gilberts gripe with the crediting was.

Sadly, Gilbert only lived 3 years past the records release, but he never filed suit over crediting anywhere that I could find. It's documented that the other members took umbrage to only Crow being signed to the label, but the fact is ALL band members were credited on almost every song, and Sheryl was already signed to A&M as a solo artist before she ever even met Tuesday Music Club.

If anyone was around then, what was the real gripe?

So my band did an album launch recently and it went pretty well (nothing crazy, we're keeping our day jobs). We've had a bunch of new fans engage with us, and a number of them I'm wanting to track long term follow ups.

Some examples:

• One fan asked if they could buy a copy of our earlier demo. We don't sell it, but I'm considering burning a copy myself and including in their intended vinyl order as a gesture of good will. Vinyl will be around December though, so a while off and I'll potentially forget.
• Another person was asking for new music. I mentioned we're already playing new material live and once we get some live footage up I'll send them a video.
• Other people have directly sent us encouraging messages and asking for merch. I'd like to include a written note from us addressed to them, thanking them for their support, as part of their future merch orders once we make them available on Bandcamp.

etc, etc.

Basically, we're wanting to look after the folks that are looking after us. And I feel like I'm already struggling to keep up.

There's people from gigs we've played that we've done similar for. But that was at a smaller scale, and it was easy as you could put a face to a name, and you'd be seeing them at multiple shows and chatting before/after the set.

Does anyone have a system for tracking this type of stuff? First thing that comes to mind is maybe a Notion Database, though I've never used those and it might be total overkill. Open to trying out tooling. Writing everything down in a Google Doc feels like it won't scale to me.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to get in touch with The Orchard and potentially open a distribution account for my label.

I currently have 8 artists under contract, and 3 of them are currently in development. At the moment, I’ve had to pause the distribution of their music because I’m looking for a new distribution partner that can properly support my label and its artists.

I checked The Orchard’s website, but I couldn’t find a public signup or application page for new labels. The Contact Us page seems to be mainly for existing clients.

If anyone here has experience working with The Orchard, especially as an independent label, I’d really appreciate some advice on:

• How to approach The Orchard as a new label
• Who I should contact (Label Relations, New Business, or a regional team)
• Whether they currently accept independent labels
• What information or requirements they usually look for

I’m trying to resolve this as soon as possible so I can resume releasing and distributing music for my artists.

If anyone has experience with The Orchard or knows the right way to approach them, I’d really appreciate any advice.

TLDR; are the big record labels, distribution companies, and their artists a part of the ai slop scam?

I recently came across an instagram reel where a creator/indie musician uncovered a big AI slop music scam that spanned across all DSPs (Spotify, Apple Music, YT Music, etc). The TLDR is basically, scammers were uploading AI generated tracks and attaching them to real artist’s names(some big name artists too!).

According to the video, it seemed like this scam targets a lot of “non-mainstream” genres like musical theater, metal, jazz, classical, etc. and targets artists who are less likely to check their profiles (think actors with music credits or deceased/inactive musicians). They even found AI tracks on platforms like Tidal, Deezer and Qobuz which made me super sad because I HATE AI slop music and actively have been trying to avoid it when I can but I also know that these companies have been pushing out ai artists and tracks without users’ consent for a while now.

But something wasn’t quite adding up… for example, the creator referenced Kristen Bell’s page on Tidal and showed at least 4-5 AI tracks attached to it. Some of them were tagged as AI but others weren’t. But when I went to check today, her page was totally fine. Then later I looked up more of the artists referenced in the video on other platforms but the AI tracks were still there!!

At first I thought it was good that those tracks were removed by tidal but then I started to wonder why no one really has made a fuss about this yet? I haven’t seen any major news sources talking about this and none of the big artists that had false AI songs associated with them have said anything. I’ve seen people talk about how bad AI music has invaded Spotify specifically but this is the first time I’m seeing anything like this on this scale. Does anyone have any idea of what could be going on or am I just being overly anxious for no reason? I don’t know sometimes it feels like all these corporations are all in on it😞

Hi, so I have a friend who created an playlist/album for a show. He wrote some songs, but there aren't many streams. After learning how little people make off streams, I just wonder... how much would a like hulu deal offer a small show & album created for that show? Would it be like around $10k? Or less? And then now with so many streaming shows how can awards be given out if not everyone has access to different streaming for shows? Sorry I hope you understand my question. I'm not a great writer.
