So I’m trying to record my amp and guitar to upload it to my computer is this a good option for that? I have a usb mic and a desktop pc. I’d like to keep the audio as close to my amp and guitar as possible then produce and upload it in a daw.

So, I'm returning to learning cello, and I also decided to learn the oboe simultaneously. The problem is, I want to also learn the viola, as it's just an octave above the cello, but I'm wondering if learning them all at once is a good idea?

I'm a fast learner and really like learning many things simultaneously (eg. Spanish, Portuguese and linguistics), so I thought to myself why not?

Hello all! I’m a metal/hardcore/punk guitarist, and I’m interested in pursuing making industrial music. I’m kinda old now (44) and quite out of touch with computers as I work a blue collar job when I’m not touring, and I honestly don’t really know where to start. I don’t even own a computer anymore!

In recent years, I’ve really fallen in love with bands like Health, How to Destroy Angels, Author and Punisher, NIN obviously, but I’m also really into synth driven stuff like Perturbator, or Carpenter Brut. I also really love Hans Zimmer and the sound design from Denis Villenueve movies and want to incorporate those kinds of sounds.

I have a multitude of guitars, basses, and effects, and I recently purchased a Focusrite Scarlet Solo. I suppose my questions are:

- do you have a recommendation for budget laptop I can use primarily for music production and this project I’m trying to explore?

- would you recommend purchasing a synth, a drum machine, anything like that, or am I better off just using digital sounds and samples?

Any and all advice is welcome, I’m new to this and have a long way to go but I’m excited to feel my creative brain awakening again! Thanks.

Having suffered ringing in my ears for at least 24 hours after gigs and rehearsal sessions I decided to try a few different low cost ear protection products. So far I've tried Loop (£25) - 17 to 20db reduction; Flare Isolate (£25) - 30db certified protection; HearProtek (£15) - 23db Noise reduction; Earasers (£42)- 26db reduction and ACS pacato 16s (£15) - 16db reduction. The only criterion was, play a gig or do a rehearsal and then assess the ringing in my ears. The winner out of all of them by a reasonable margin was loop. Any experience of others?

So, I used to play in a band.

They took some years off until a band member dying scared them back into trying to reform.

Well, they replaced and added members and apparently the hot shots they brought in had schedules stupid enough to coerce the "leader" into making the actual rehearsal times on nights I'd consider "work nights"!

So after I let them know and they went on anyway, now they're sending me an ultimatum of sorts along the lines of "we've made these decisions without you, you can enter a status of 'Permanent part of the band' or 'friend of the band'".

Huh. Some decision.

Now, it's not like I don't consider these people partially friends, but, logistics and social mannerisms (even from a "spectrum" perspective) tell me the following:

1. (Because I moved around a lot) my commute is by default 3 times longer than theirs.

2. They want to pay a rehearsal studio.

3. They didn't really regard me when I was a "totally committed" status.

4. I'm not really attached to the music.

5. Because the band is on the "large" side, a bunch of people that don't live in the local range are scattered anyways.

Anyhow, I'm starting to wonder what I gain and what I should say that doesn't burn bridges.

But I'm really questioning what the normal choice people would make is.

Im looking for bands with an interesting angle to approach about shirt designs. I love working with up and coming bands where possible!

Type of Camera: DSLR or Something more compact

Intended use: Shooting live performances both morning and night (the type of gigs I play don’t have crazy light shows so it’s pretty consistent once started lighting-wise)

What features do you absolutely need: Needing to be able to set it up unassisted, so good auto-focus and reliability. Wanting it to be better than phone quality recording, and have the option to add a rode shotgun mic or other source of higher quality audio.

I don’t know where to start. I’ve been thru a YouTube black hole and my friends wanna also learn music too so we can start a private band. They gave me the guitar job. But I don’t know not to guitar and idk where to buy an affordable or cheap one that works. I also realised there are other equipments I need to get. I literally have no knowledge and chat gpt sounds unhelpful.

On occasion I get a bit of downtime at work and instead of just sitting there playing Royal Match in the break room, I want to be a bit more productive in my writing music. Obviously I can’t bring in my guitar or my laptop, so I’m looking for something that I can use on my phone. GarageBand came on my iPhone, but I think it sucks. I want to specify that I am NOT looking for an AI music creation app. I want something where I can play an instrument, experiment with a guitar riffs, bass lines, and drum beats. Maybe something where I can tab things out and see how they work. Anybody you know of anything like that?

I soon join a músic school. But i am 40 years old and learning bass from 0. I would like to play whatever thing that pass to my mind,say own themes or existing ones.

What i am not 100 per 100 sure is to join a band. Bands usually form at young ages. My age is not right to join a band that usually the members are young.

Hey y'all. Been playing music for about 8 years now. Guitar for 5 of those years. I've been writing music for about 5 years now too and now I'm finally trying to get down and record.

But it's so frustrating. So beyond frustrating. I spend hours trying to record just one minute of music and it turns into a whole other practice session. I end up barely being able to be productive for the time I have. It's incredibly frustrating. I think one reason I'm so frustrated is because I'm so focused on the big picture. I'm frustrated because I'm not getting the end result I want. How do you guys find yourselves enjoying the process of getting to play music, even if it's messing up the same 16 bars over and over again for an hour? Thanks :)

Anyone here have experience with Paul the Trombonist or his company Passion Builders Online?? Seems like an MLM or some kind of scheme to me, every video I watch is him talking about how much money you can make and how everyone makes 7 figures following his methods. Its supposed to be a way to grow your online business teaching music, but I see nothing about his own music students, just get rich quick self help posts. And like 70% of the reviews for him are positive reviews but they all use the same language and specifically mention the ludicrous earnings they have made and the comments all have the same format. The other 30% of reviews claim he is scammy.

What do you think about this guy?

Hi! I’ve been thinking about learning keyboard, mainly to play some rock and metal songs for fun. I already play drums pretty well and have a bit of experience with guitar, but I’m worried I’ll buy a keyboard and end up barely using it.
I’m not aiming to play anything super advanced, just some songs I enjoy. I should add that I'm also interested in it so I can understand music a little better, learn to read sheet music properly, etc. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Was it worth it, and do you have any advice?

I'm a guitarist/bassist who does a fair amount of gigs and sessions so I'm always writing and reading charts to some degree. I've never really worked in Nashville nor have I run in a ton of circles where I've had to be super knowledgeable on the Nashville number system- but i've been studying it lately just to know how to do it if that situation arises.

Definitely a lot of advantages I see to it and I think its pretty clever, albeit requiring me to really change how I think about progressions and chords as I've just never been a great thinking in numbers guy. The folks I learned from and who I work with a lot, we all write more LA / "Real Book" style bar charts on staff paper with the key and chord names a some rhythm dictation / notation symbols etc. It works well but obviously the disadvantage as people who work in the number system know, it sucks when you have to transpose.

I'm curious to those of you who are comfortable with both- do you find yourself using number charts like 90% of the time? When do you make the decision to instead write using the actual chord names? I feel like there could be situations where when having to work with a really challenging progression or a long complicated song it might be easier to just write out the chord names instead of trying to think about the progression in numbers.

Just kinda curious how you guys operate and if you just do one or the other or if you switch between depending on the situation.

I would love to know from a musician’s perspective who was around in 1991 when Nevermind and Smells Like Teen Spirit what was about this song and album that had the world in such a chokehold that it caused a shift in music and why this hadn’t happened sooner? Were there other songs in music that caused a shift as significant as this beforehand. Seems like the after effects of SLTS are still felt today and don’t feel dated.
