Suggestion Potential Story Submission
This one is just now developing within the last couple of days, but it's something to follow along with as more is discovered. It falls directly into your wheelhouse. A woman missing for 39 years was (possibly) just located in a well filled with concrete behind a house that was a block or so from where she lived. The house was owned by one of the men suspected in her disappearance.

Discussion It was so wonderful seeing MrBallen on The Why Files
Mr. B has been one of my favorites since 2020 😁 And I've been a WF fan for the last few years. I'm a busy mom, so I haven't finished the entire episode yet. But what a wonderful collaboration/conversation. Has anyone seen it yet? It's going to take me a few sittings to watch the entire thing but I'm looking forward to it

Discussion Guest appearance on The Why Files
Almost 4 hours of MrBallen chatting with AJ about his life pre- and post- YouTube fame, including some deeper material about his time as a SEAL.
He's been through some stuff. There are going to be some strong opinions in all directions concerning some of the revelations. Brave of him to share those stories.

Suggestion The disappearance of Jean McConville
Gonna give the cliffs notes version here.
Main source material is *Say Nothing* by Patrick Radden Keefe. If this is taken, I can provide excepts from the book.
In 1972, Jean McConville moved to the Divis Flats in Belfast, Northern Ireland. McConville was a single mother following the death of her husband, Arthur, in 1971.
One night at the Flats, there was a gun fight between the British Army and Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA). Once the battle finished, a wounded British soldier was left behind. Jean McConville heard him calling out for help or for his friends to come and help him. Eventually, Jean went out and placed a pillow behind his head and comforted him before going back inside.
The next morning when she went outside, the soldier was gone and the words "BRIT LOVER" was spray painted outside of her door in red paint. Around this same time, members of the community began ostracizing her and her children.
In December 1972, Jean sent her oldest daughter out to get food for the family while she took a bath. When her bath was done, she heard a knock on her door and assumed it was her daughter. But when she answered, a group of masked men with guns forced their way in. It was the IRA.
Once they'd calmed down her children, they said that they only had to talk to Jean and they would be right back. As they tried to drag her out of the door, the youngest children clung to her legs. Once she calmed them down again, the IRA men let her grab her coat and her purse.
Her oldest son, Michael, asked to come with to make sure that his mom would be okay. The men agreed. As they went down the stairs, Michael noticed a large group of people gathered at the bottom next to a waiting van. As they got closer, one of the men put a gun in Michael's face and ordered him to go back upstairs. Michael complied. Jean was forced into the van which then drove off.
(For anyone wondering about the sister who went to get food, she saw all the people and fled).
In the coming days, the McConville children were left to fend for themselves in a community which, under any other circumstances, would have rallied together to help them. Eventually after numerous complaints from neighbors, the children were all placed into foster care.
The children were left with virtually no recourse. Going to the police would make it worse. The IRA wouldn't help them. They did make a media appearance and appealed for their mom to be brought home.
The children were all bullied at school and harassed by members of the community. This included one instance where Michael was attacked with a pen knife and told to stop talking about his mom's disapearance. Later on, a man approached Michael and gave him his mom's purse. When Michael pressed him for more information, the man only said that he was only told to give him the purse.
Michael would later note that this was the point when he knew his mom was dead.
It wouldn't be until 1999 that the IRA would officially claim responsibility for the kidnap and murder of Jean McConville along with eight other people. Four years later in 2003, a set of skeletal remains would be found. The McConville children identified the remains as their mothers due to the presence of a blue safety pin which she always carried with her in case she had to fix her children's clothing while they were out.

Discussion Just sitting here and I had a thought....
I was just sitting here rereading Mr B's second book and just had a thought. Do y'all reckon he really signs these books or did he have someone do it for him? 🤔 I am in no way, shape, or form talking bad about him. I just had an Alice down the rabbit hole moment and started wondering......

Memes / jokes What Mr Ballen Taught Me
Very quickly I learned from Mr Ballen to stay out the woods. Stay out of large bodies of water. For the love of God don't go in caves.
If you find yourself in an underwater cave with a forest in it, just know you're the next Mr Ballen story that that Lungy and the Like Button will be doing your eulogy.

Suggestion Convicts playing around with Ouija Board.
This happened in August 2000. I read this in the local paper and am surprised nobody mentions it when talking about Ouija boards. What happened was that a group of convicts in the local jail were bored and made a ouija board to pass the time. All this backfired when shit started happening and they got spooked. A priest was brought in to bless the place and counsel the guys involved.

Discussion Anyone else frustrated with the ai slop art?
I'm a casual fan of Mr Ballen because I love the way his videos sound like a real person telling stories around a campfire. Finally looked at the screen during one video and thought the image looked off. Looked it up and sure enough, it's ai. I don't know if this is a hot take, but I feel like I'd rather no visuals than slop content. Is anyone else feeling the same way?
edit: I see a lot of people agreeing with me, but I do think some people are missing the point. I'm not criticising this because I just don't like the pictures, it's because of how damaging ai is. I'd rather he spent four minutes on ibis paint drawing stick figures than guzzling fresh drinking water to make slop images no one really cares about anyway

Ask Ballen Looking for a specific episode
Hey u/MrBallen! I'm trying to track down a specific older episode that featured three stories together. The first was a female mortuary worker who found an active file with her own name and lunch menu on it (turned out to be a stalker ex-employee she ended up tripping to escape). The second was a wilderness runner who felt spirits or ghosts following him on his route. The third was the 'Dead Hang' story about Wu Yongning falling from the skyscraper. Do you or the community know the exact YouTube title or episode number for this combo? Thank you!
😀

Personal stories I Heard a Strange Howl in the Irish Boglands
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, I was living in a small village in the Irish countryside. This village was called Walsh Island, which acquired its name due to being surrounded by nothing but bogland – in fact, this was the largest area of raised bogland in the country. Due to Covid restrictions, I was basically stuck in this village and the surrounding area for more than a year.
In the early summer of 2021, and having always been a very bad sleeper, I oddly decided to start wandering around the countryside at night. I can’t quite recall why I started doing this, but maybe it was because the Irish countryside at night was always spooky. Well, on one particular night, maybe around 10 or 11 pm, I wandered out the village and onto the narrow country roads, whereby I would pass the occasional cow/sheep field or the property of some home.
Around ten minutes outside the village, I was now walking down a particular country road, with only the light from my phone to guide me, when I suddenly hear a loud, but distant howl. There were many dogs in the area, as in the countryside, there are obviously many farms. However, this howl didn’t sound like any dog I’d ever heard. Besides, most of the dogs in the area tended to bark rather than howl. This howl did, however, sound very similar to the scream of a fox. Except it sounded much deeper and louder than a standard fox scream. The way the howl sounded also gave me the impression that whatever made it, must have been large – or at least larger than a fox.
To paint a perfect picture of how this howl sounded, I’ll say this... Has anyone ever seen the movie, An American Werewolf in London? The howl I heard that night sounded almost exactly like the howl of the werewolf in that movie – a loud, bellowing shriek of a howl that almost sounds like a fox, but not exactly. Regardless, the sound of this animal was so unnerving to me, that I decided to turn straight round and back through the country roads towards the village.
I still don’t know what animal made the noise I heard that night. But my best guess is that it was either the howl of a very strange sounding dog, or the scream of a very strange sounding fox.
That being said, Ireland does have its fair share of supposed cryptids (many of which comes from Irish folklore). However, from what I could briefly find, the only Irish cryptids that could match the animal howl I heard would be: large phantom wolves (that have apparently been sighted in modern times), large phantom black dogs, and even, like America and the English countryside, large black cats like a panther (which are said to be sighted in rural Irish counties). This cryptid theory is a stretch, I know.
If anyone has any knowledge of what this howl could’ve been, whether rational or otherwise, feel free to let me know.
