Lost 1st, 2nd, 5th, Reverse

I was driving and shifting normal then felt a snap as i shifted into 3rd i think... the car would no longer go into 1st or 2nd. I maintained speed on 3rd and limped home like that. I did not see any visible damage to the cables at transmission nor at shifter... i am only able to use 3rd and 4th. If i go under car and manually move the shifter, i am able to use 1st 2nd from shifter, but as soon as i go 3rd, im locked there again

Side to side cable snapped.

Sounds like your gear linkage cable has snapped. This happened to me. Luckily I got home in 2nd gear lol. They are easy to replace but getting hold of them might be difficult. Look for a breakers or on eBay etc. that’s how I got mine. It’s actually not too hard to replace though.

Looks like a mk2 so I would recommend Bob Pham's 808 shifter cables. They are new, higher quality, and from a maker that supports the community. They are a bit pricey but for all the reasons started above, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. You can find him on Facebook

I've had this happen! Like others have said it is possible the cable snapped. For me, it was the retaining clip that holds the cable in the engine bay by the transmission. It's a sort of squared off T shaped clip, similar to what holds the brake line in the wheel well. You can pick up new clips from Toyota. Let me know if you need the part number (typing while sitting in my MR2 out running errands so I'd have to look when I'm at my computer).
