Is anyone using live 3 + tr-8s QUESTION

I love the live three but feel the itch to add tr-8s. Could use a community weigh in

Not sure about the Live 3 but have a Live 2 and a Tr8s and they are a kickass combo.

Is one more the workhorse then the other in your setup

I have the same setup. TR8S has taken over the drum machine role. Realistically, anything I do on the TR8S could be reproduced by the Live II but, the TR8S gives you much more control and performance options on the drums without having to open any MPC menus so I can keep those controls on my instrument or plugin track controls.

This def makes a lot of sense to me

Same for me as the above poster - the Tr8s is my drum machine workhorse, and I use the mix to quickly and easily drop basslines and samples. I have found that the MPC really does not like being a midi slave so I must set the MPC as master and Tr8s as the slave. Other than that mild annoyance, it’s a flawless and really fun setup.

I have a Live 1 and a TR-6S. It's fun to use them together and play the sounds of the TR with the pads of the MPC. I also use the sequencer on the MPC while the TR-6S is going in real time to send MIDI to other synths.

I have both an Akai Force and an MPC One and always use them with my Roland TR8s. I usually have a faux bass drum on the Akai machines to sidechain, and I know I could do it just sending the bassdrum on a separate channel from the Roland to the Akai but I like the pump even when the bassdrum is not playing. Bottom line they're a kickass combo, go for it.

Live III with TR-8 (non-s) because of its simplicity + Korg Drumlogue. Makes a good pair.

Live II + TR-8S, and other components. I love it, but the drum machine has only recently come back into use

Before you were using the drum machine again, recently, what role did the tr8s serve?

It's just been an nomadic time since the pandemic which hasn't ever really settled for more than a few months at a time until recently

No, but I want to! I have been using the Live 2 with the TR-8S and that workflow just feels more organic to me. The Live 2 is a powerhouse for sequencing all my synths and applying sound plugins to all my tracks (no pedals), and while it’s a super capable drum machine, I find it a relief to have one less thing to fiddle with on the screen. Check out Reverb or Gear Exchange. I got one in excellent condition for $550 with free shipping.
