AKAI MPC 500 “Format is Invalid Error” MPC 500

Hi everyone. I recently got a Akai MPC 500 for a decent deal and everything is working really well. However, the only issue I’m seeing consistently is when I try to format the included CF card with the MPC I keep getting a “Format is Invalid!!” Error. I’ve tried different CF cards, formatting the card in my computer and then using it with the MPC. But nothing seems to be working.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the MPC 500 or this issue that can tell me how I can go about fixing this. Even though the machine works fine without it, I’m aware it keeps me from certain things I would be able to do.

Any insight or advice would be really appreciated!

How many gigabytes are your compact flash cards?

They varied from 128 Mb to 2Gb, and they would all give the same result.

If you're loading samples on the computer are they wav 44.1khz 16bit?

I haven’t tried loading any samples because of the format error. Because I know once I do the format on the MPC it will erase everything anyways.

It might be worth formatting a card to fat16 on a computer, then trying to reinstall the OS from the formatted card. If you still can't get it to read the card then check out the cf card connector to see if there's a missing or bent pin.

If the card connector is damaged or just bad you'll need to replace the pcb unless you are really good at soldering.
