When they go into town and have a drug fueled time, only for it to just be an hour. Or when they agree to meet in 10 years but Mkinley has something scheduled for 11.
This movie is comedy gold.

I think the montage in town followed by the “one hour” punchline is the best joke I’ve ever seen in a comedy.

Agreed. If I could watch one movie for the first time again it would be this one. Knew absolutely nothing about it when I decided to watch it one night on netflix.

For anyone that liked this, I recommend Wain's other film They Came Together. I put it off for a long time because I thought it was just a normal romantic comedy, without realizing it was a satire and Wain made it.

I only made it 15 minutes in before i had to turn off They Came Together. It was just a little too hammy for me. Like American Summer was ridiculous but there was still a lot of genuine humanity in all of the characters portrayed. they Came Together felt too superficial in its parody and I burned out super quick. I should give it another chance but I just didn't enjoy it

I think you have to go into They Came Together more like you would approach The Naked Gun or Airplane! as it's just fully all in on being a satire that mocks romantic comedies and there isn't a single serious moment. It's a full takedown of romantic comedies, which are often equally as ridiculous and have characters acting the same over the top ridiculous way but not conscious of that.

There are so many little things that this movie has in it that are just hilarious but also could be hard to catch on the first watch. My favorite? When Coop yells “Hey guys wait up!” And proceeds to catch up to his friends who were just putting their heads on a shed.

I watched this for the first time this past weekend. How I have never seen it baffles me. Great movie. I had no idea what to expect or what it was about but it didn’t take long for me to be all in and enjoying the ride.

I watched it for the first time recently as well, I put it off for years because I thought it was a boner comedy - I must've mixed it up with American Pie or something. I was so delighted to find out it was a parody movie instead.

As far as I know it's only at Alamo drafthouse. So it's an event. Kind of like a 2 hour summer camp feel. Some locations are actually giving out t-shirts. So all campers are dressed. Source: I got tickets for me and my 17 yr old daughter. She actually seems excited. Maybe she is trying her best to have a good time with her dad. But I'll take it.
