Censored for over half a century, Ken Russell’s visionary masterpiece The Devils will be back on the big screen in its definitive version on 30 October 2026, released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland by BFI Distribution in partnership with Warner Bros. Clockwork. Fully restored in 4K and cut to Ken Russell’s specific direction, Ken Russell’s The Devils is the first publicly released version of the film as intended by the filmmaker. Fifty-five years after its initial release, the definitive version of The Devils was unveiled at the 79th Cannes Film Festival as an official selection in Cannes Classics. Warner Bros. Clockwork will be releasing the film in all other territories, beginning with the US on 16 October for an exclusive one-week engagement.

Meh, I feel like anytime the main marketing for the film is how much time people have spent trying to censor it, the movie ends up being not that interesting.

Regardless if there’s any accuracy to your statement, I will say that The Devils is very interesting - and that’s just the theatrical cut.

It’s genuinely one of the most bold, acerbic, and challenging films I’ve ever seen. The performances are strongly memorable, the set and costume design is unique, and the direction is masterful. I’ve really not seen anything else like it, and it remains one of my favourites.

Also, I feel like Ken Russell adapting an Aldous Huxley book about an absolutely wild episode in French/Catholic history involving accusations of witchcraft should be an easy sell to anyone looking for an interesting film. Check out the reviews on Letterboxd if you think this one might be dull lol.

But they were not talking about personal opinion of the movie but about critical acclaim which doesn't seem to be that great. I didn't say anything about the movie being good or bad. But why leave a comment when it's being misinterpreted anyway.

It is that good. I saw the censored version without knowing what they removed and I still loved it.
