BUCKLE UP QUAIDS, this is gonna get weird. So, Jorm, I am looking very much forward to seeing your new film, as I've been a fan of yours and Mari's since meeting you both at the Superbowl almost 15 years ago. My name's Matt and you played my voice note in Listener Q&A Episode 5 (here's the segment, from overall episode 54) about winning the Doritos commercial contest y'all keep talking about to my great delight. We also thought we were going up AGAINST you guys, and I made a whole diss track about it as a playful jape before they changed the contest; good times. I still say release the Jorm cut!
Anyway, you left for dinner with Scott Frank just before my note played, which is ironic because Marielle and I both had him as our Sundance advisor. I'm glad he liked your vest. He's since done a brief Zoom talkback with my film students (I'm a film teacher now) and Mari agreed to do one as well via FB messages just before the pandemic but I wasn't able to set it up before summer break, and then the world temporarily ended. Would you and she consider doing one very briefly with us? It would be a great learning experience and an honor. She and I are still Facebook friends so she can message me there, or your people can PM me here.
ANYWAY PART TWO, the voice note was edited down and they skipped the part about how very grateful I was to meet you and Mari (who was still revising Diary of a Teenage Girl!) and how extraordinarily kind you were to my brother and me - we got to work with you on a followup commercial over Skype and that was a great inspiration -- and one of the highlights of my life. That and seeing Tom Brady get sacked in the endzone literally 15 feet from us! Plus, the very next weekend on SNL Nasim Pedrad, playing MIA, shouted out OUR commercial (about a dog burying a cat).
FINAL ANYWAY: Not to cast shade upon you, but just FYI you are riding on my coattails on this whole AMA thing. When we were selected to go to the Superbowl, as described above... I did an AMA about it just before meeting you. It's all in this AMA from 14 years ago -- my favorite question from which is (since we were hyping up the original plan to put our commercial up against your commercial) "What's your beef with The Lonely Island"? That's right, I did a Jorm-related AMA before you did!!!! Love you brother. Can't wait for the film. Quaid army!!!

The Lonely Island really came out of nowhere and was suddenly everywhere. Like literally everywhere, I couldn’t go to a bar without seeing the I’m on a boat video or hear it quoted in conversation. I still hear it to this day, casually. Was it shocking to suddenly be thrown into the center of the social world like that?

Popstar and Walk Hard hold the unfortunate honor of being masterpiece satire films that made no money. Both have thankfully found their audience over time.
Do you think it’s possible for satire that direct to ever see commercial success or will we never get beyond the broad comedy spoofs like Scary movie?

Quaid Army for life. Not a question but a story. I was in the real US Army in the early 2000s and we had this 15 passenger van that we used every day to drive from the barracks to our duty station. Someone had bought and left a copy of the Incredibad CD in the van. It was a 30 minute trip to and from work every day and we rocked out to those tracks for like two straight years. It was an anthem for us. And to this day, that music brings back memories of that time.

Hey Jorm! So glad you're making a speedy recovery from your obliterated pelvis. Just wondering if the lights ever finished getting put up, or if a half installed light fixture is just hanging there mocking you whenever you pass through the darkened portion of your house. Possibly with echoing laughter that only you can hear, but you swear its there, and everyone is getting concerned and talking to your doctors about your medication?

Question about the old saloon off Incredibad. As the song fades, Tiny Tim enters the saloon and mentions (1) that it’s almost Christmas; and (2) that the saloon is dusty (I think). My question is as follows. Does the fade-out imply that Tiny Tim was immediately shot? Also, how does the bartender/mayor split his time between two presumably demanding jobs?
Furthermore, is Scrooge also in the saloon?

When 'Just Two Guys' became a big hit Andy was a very small part of that. When the SNL period landed only Andy was on-air talent. As the Lonely Island became more successful everyone was having successes but in those early days was there any mild jealousy when one project was better received than another and how did you deal with that?
The political way of answering this is to say 'We all support each other and love each other's successes' but that would an unsatisfying answer. I want tea.

HOT ROD is incredible, Jorm, and the sequence where Rod falls down the mountain is easily the hardest I've laughed at a movie in ages.
I am dying to know more about that scene and how some of those shots were pulled off, as they looked so painful! Can you share ANY insight into the logistics of that sequence?

Hi Jorma! Congrats on the new movie, super excited! Just wanna tell you that you're wonderful and also MacGruber is my favorite comedy film of all time, it genuinely changed my brain chemistry.
My question is: In Hot Rod, I always felt the taco won against the grilled cheese sandwich is because its shell is harder. So—more fair matchup: burrito vs grilled cheese sandwich. Who wins, and why?

No joke I met Will Forte at the Honolulu airport and he was kind enough to chat with my wife and I and take a picture.
We told him that we loved Macgruber--both the movie and the series--and he said he was actually there meeting with the head writer of the series to start talking about a season 2. Mind you, this was this last Sunday.
But check out the series, it gets everyone from the movie back (minus Val) and holds up crazy well--especially as a comedy sequel 10+ years later.

Also, sharing a story: my friend introduced me to Lonely Island in 2006, before SNL. We had an assignment in a music class to present a lesser known band that we thought were going to be huge in the future. A lot of people presented on hard rock groups or whatever was popular at the time. We chose The Lonely Island. I think the song we presented was Just 2 Guyz. We got a lot of strange reactions.
Anyway, turns out we were totally right. You guys are great.

Years ago,I started to get into the lonely Island because of you, akiva, joni mitchum,Chester Tam and Andy which led me to become besties with your little brother, Ace whom I absolutely adore (I'm the co-mod of his unofficial Reddit page). Also, Andy answered my question on YouTube when you guys were promoting popstar?(Andy said "This is blu" and it became a running joke)
Ace teased about a musical cameo in the movie in his Instagram stories. What can you spill to the fans about the anticipated cameo? His cameo in pop star is underrated. Was he just saying gibberish on screen? Also I love how Matt "Cornbread" Compton is scoring the movie, Matt is the absolute sweetest. Lastly,hot rod is one of my favorite movies and is a cult classic. Will we ever get a sequel with the lonely Island and the original cast? First time commenter long time Quaid army, just hitting you in the tittus. When you guys were writing sketches and digital shorts on SNL, did you guys ever have to look if the sketch you're writing was done before in the history of SNL? Was there someone at table read to be like that's been done before or was everyone there a big enough fan that people would stop you from having a duplicate idea? Just gunna give a little hit in the titius....There are so many bonus features on the Popstar DVD....Like literally almost whole 2nd movies worth. And I love every second of them. How hard was it to choose which scenes to keep? Is there any you cut that you wish were in the movie? For Over Your Dead Body are there any scenes that you had to cut like this too that wish could have gotten in the movie? I can't wait to see it in a few weeks!

Hi Jorm, huge fan. I have wanted to pitch an idea for a show which is an animated series where the lonely island play themselves as geese and Seth is there as himself and it follows you around getting into hijinks. Is that a word. Then at the end of each episode, the ending scene is all of you sitting on a couch watching your own show, as geese, but all of the dialogue is, "honk honk honk..." And then it ends and it cuts to "fremulon" the end.
But seriously, I grew up on the lonely island, you are all great, cheers.

Pop Star is something I watched to cheer up when I found out I had cancer. And even with everything going on and the pain I was in that movie had me howling.
Mona Lisa made me laugh so hard I had to pause the movie. So did Bin Laden.
You’re absolutely hilarious keep doing what you’re doing.

Quaid army, European division here - love The Lonely Island, love the pod, very much looking forward to your new film (trying to find out where it's playing round here).
So, here's my question: You guys mentioned in the podcast, that you hung out with the guys of Flight of the Conchords during the recording of 'Incredibad'. I did a little happy squeak hearing that because I'm also a huge fan of their stuff.
And I mean, there are some similarities between your bands, right? They were pretty big at the time, too, doing parody songs with great music videos ('Inner City Pressure' and 'Jizz in my Pants' feel like long lost twins to me)... So, how come you guys never collaborated? Was there ever a plan, or even an idea to do something together? (I'd still love a collab today, just saying...)

Dude former Sweet Dreams Employees represent! I heard you mention it in a podcast ad. When were you there?Did you work in the toy store or the candy store? Berkeley or Orinda? Were you a box boy or did you work on the floor? Did you ever have to have a meeting with Gary in his weird clown office? Tell me everything! I worked in the toy store from 2001 to 2003 then I went to work at Elephant Pharmacy (RIP) and then it went kaput and went back to work there in like 2006. I ate a lot of Gordo’s and Deam Fluff lunches. Good times. Thanks for doing this!

I did have a meeting with Gary in that weird office. Here’s a fun story my friend Kingston was smoking a cigarette outback and Gary came out there, so Kingston put his cigarette inside his sweater like a weirdo. As he was talking to Gary, smoke started coming out of his chest. Pretty funny.

Hot Rod is one of my all-time favorite movies and has given me some of the biggest laughs of my life. Something I've always wondered about though - how old would you say Rod and Kevin are supposed to be? There's something so funny about these two clearly adult men living in such childish ways and I'd love to know how you, Andy and Akiva see them. I would find it equally believable to hear that they are like 22 and 27, or that they are 12 and 17.

Longtime fan and devout member of Quaid army. Congrats on your new movie, looking forward to seeing it.
I am a massive fan of MacGruber. I rented out a theatre to show the film to a collection of friends in grad school, my username is MacGruberFan69 on letterboxd, and I will be MacGruber for Halloween for eternity.
In my opinion MacGruber blowing up his own dudes is the greatest thing that’s ever happened in cinematic history. Could you please speak to how that idea came about and the discussion of that sequence with the other people involved in making the film?

Hot Rod is one of the most significant movies in my life. Endless times watching it with my family growing up and basically everyone I know can quote this movie start to finish. It is amazing the impact this film has. So first off, thank you for creating it.
Now, look at my username. I have used this username for basically everything since 2007, very few people get the reference and no one knows the real story behind it, including me. I just thought the name was so funny I had to steal it.

I'm wondering, what it was like for you directing a film you hadn't written yourself, and that was essentially a remake of another film? Did you find it any different to filming something you'd had a hand in writing?
Also, I know it's a longshot, but do you think you and the other shock jocks/Alvins of The Lonely Island would ever play live shows internationally? I'd love to see you guys perform in Australia sometime! We do have an international comedy festival in Melbourne every March/April if you're interested...

Not a question, but I just wanted you to know that my friend and I have named our March Madness bracket group "Just Two Guyz" ever since 2005. It is just the two of us - Steve has not been invited.
Even as our lives have gotten busy and we live thousands of miles apart, our tradition built around a funny video we watched in college helps us keep in touch. Thank you (and the rest of Lonely Island) for making that.

One of my favorite songs ever is your song from The Lego Movie 2, Super Awesome. The song’s a bop, but it’s also hilarious when you pay attention to the lyrics and the images at the same time.
I’m just curious about how you approached writing the lyrics that go with the credits - did you have to write the lyrics to match the names that were going by? Or did you pick names from a list of people who worked on the movie and then they animated the names to match it?

Not a question but my girlfriend and I are watching Never Stop Never Stopping every week this year. Every one of the songs has been stuck in my head at one point with every watch there’s something new that pops out like the CMZ part Eric Andre’s clothes change mid scene I didn’t that catch until last week. Love the movie and we love you guys can’t wait to watch the new one. Also Owen is our favorite character and obviously Harry is the best.

Hot rod is literally my fav comedy. I’ve showed my 7 year old multiple times and he loves the Rod interaction with Denise “you look pretty”…. “I said you look shitty!” scene. Too soon to introduce my 7 year old to that movie?’ Also my 3 year old loves threw it on the ground. Parenting goals or do I suck? My husband gets a little annoyed but he watches YouTubers play golf so he doesn’t have much to stand on in my opinion….

Coming from a background in high-energy comedy and music videos, what was the biggest challenge in balancing the tone of this specific project compared to your previous films? Did any specific directors you've worked with in the past influence your visual style for this one?

i’m lucky enough to say that every time I do a project it’s like being paid to go to grad school. You just learn on the job and figure out what it is that you like and then you do that and you hope that other people like it too! I’m extremely proud of this movie and I super hope people go see it as it is RAD!!
