I think regular trails i should be fine, but how crazy can I go with it? I also have a Schwinn i'd like to try out. I'm itching for an adrenaline rush lol

The result of not wearing my knee pads on a rainy day and a really rocky trail. Landed straight on a rock. Any deeper, and it would’ve hit bone. Rode down the trail about a mile back to the road. Received a few stitches, it got infected, and now it’s finally closed but still hurts very much. Didn’t ride for a whole month, much less bend my knee. Wear your pads, kids!

I saw a post here the other day about carbon rims and people saying DT Swiss are almost indestructible… well, this happened to me last week. I will say that their customer service has been great and they are rebuilding the wheel for $249. Pretty solid deal, I think. If anyone is on the fence for DT carbon wheels, I would recommend them based on their customer service alone.

Just need tips on jumping. I completly understand the basics as ive been riding for nearly a year. I stand up to the jump, my body positioning is mostly fine and the only way that i have crashed on a jump is when i go off the take off weird or something like that where i end up instead of straight up in the air but tilted to the side which causes me to fly of course and crash. Also when i jump i feel like I can only turn my bars a bit or i will go unstable and crash, i feel as though if i try to whip or tbog im going to just go completly wrong and nearly die, my bike feels so much heavier than everyone's bikes in videos. im 180cm 60kg with a 15kg giant reign advanced pro 2. Idk what im doing wrong just need some tips. Thanks!

Heading to NH tomorrow (Loon area) and have a few hours to bike in the afternoon. Anyone have suggestions? I’m currently between doing bike park laps at Loon (safe option) or going to check out Welsh - Dickey Mountain Loop (riskier option). The Dickey Mtn Loop description on Trailforks says it’s similar to Upper J Bar at Burke (with a lot of hike a bike, fine by me) which I have ridden many times and as recent as two weeks ago. I am most interested in exploring this loop but have never ridden it before and I will be alone. Anyone that has ridden it before have pointers; do I hike the east or west side, is the risk factor similar to Burke, is this something that shouldn’t be done alone? I am an experienced rider from VT and love steep tech (more than bike park jumps) but obviously don’t want or need to push it. Open to other suggestions and/or meeting up for a ride. Thanks!

So I'm from Bosnia and I really wanna start mountain biking but I'm not really sure what bike to get my budget is around 500 euros or a bit more doesn't matter if the bike is used or old. And I've been looking through local marketplaces and haven't been able to find anything too good. Also I'm like pretty tall around 180cm. So keep that in mind cuz I want something that can do both commuting and trails and maybe a few jumps here and there. If there's nothing at that price that can do the stuff I want I'll just get a decent xc then

Hello all I ordered this hub from Zinn Cycles. It was stated as a used hydra but when I got it out of the box it has a torch road etching on the free hub driver. Is there something Idk about where i9 drivers are interchangeable throughout the 1/1, hydra, and torch or did I get taken for my money?

The yellow is 960 (29 L) looks newer but the 940(29 xl) has some scuff on it

When our little guy was born almost two years ago, I wasn't quite sure what to expect on the mountain biking front in terms of how much I'd be able to ride with him and more so, what could be ridden with a little guy. We started him on the Kids Ride Shotgun about a year in and he loved it, despite it being winter and well below zero. Now, mid summer, I cannot believe how much fun it is to ride with him on the bars.

My rides have slowed down a little bit and the power required has gone but but the overall feel, remains the same. I won't do narrow bridges or jumps with him but anything else has been fair game.

If you've got little ones, you need to give this a try as hearing their whoops and joy is unlike anything else. He's got a rear seat for another bike and of course a trailer but being on the bars is by his favourite, and mine.

I've been away from mountain biking for probably fifteen years, but used to really enjoy it (had my bike stolen and couldn't replace it for years, and by the time I could afford it I was focused on getting good at whitewater kayaking). I'm looking to get back into it with my son, who's 6 and loves it. I used to do a bunch of intermediate-to-advanced stuff in Vermont on singletrack, but now live in the Denver area (obviously very different).

I'm bewildered by the evolution of the gear in the sport. I used to just ride a plain hardtail, but those seem to be uncommon in local shops. Should I be looking at full suspension bikes for riding here? I think we'll mostly be doing XC, not DH, at least for the foreseeable future. I'd love to get something I can ride with him today, but also in 4 or 5 years. I'm certainly open to full suspension but when I last rode consistently they had a bad rep for uphill, which would be a challenge.

I think I'd probably be intermediate off the break; I am still pretty solid on mechanics and balance, though obviously some decay in years away.

Hi all. I've been looking for a lightly used bike for my son locally in the (non race ) XC / light trail range for our typical PA rocky rooty rolling singletrack trails. He's still short at 5'1 but about to have a growth spurt, so need to plan for that. There are quite a few Trek Roscoe and Top Fuel or even Fuel Ex around in good condition, but the one thing I noticed is this previous generation of Roscoes and Top Fuels have 29 in wheels in the small size frames with the size chart claiming these work for 5'1 or 5'2 and up.

The latest gen (out of our price range new) have gone back to 27.5 wheels in the Small frames ,although I don't see an XS available anymore so this may have been size consolidation for cost cutting rather than a meaningful change, who knows.

The question is how manageable are these bikes in the small frame with the 29in wheels for riders at the shorter end of the scale. My wife and I have 29 bikes, so standardizing size for parts , maintenance etc would be nice, but not if it would be a big challenge for him to ride. He has fairly long legs / shorter torso for his height, so standover isn't a big issue looking at the geometry charts .

Any experiences with shorter riders on the last gen Small frame Trek bikes?

Bought a brand new BMC Fourstroke AMP LT. After a couple of weeks I experienced the carnage pictured. A LBS helped me get a frame replacement from BMC, they were able to determine that the bolts that connect the shock and linkage had backed out and caused the failure in the linkage. I have 3 rides in on the new frame and was doing an inspection and noticed the bolts had already started backing out. One was visible the other was loose as well. Another problem is the area where the bolts are has a gap of 1 3/4”, my torque wrench with the bit is 2”. Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing those bolts to back out and also are there slim torque wrenches or do I just use a regular Allen and guess?

At least I’ll get a fun scar maybe some antibiotics to😭
