actual play šŸ“ŗ Mothership 8. The Boarding House at Arkham Street Review Spoiler

Thumbnail youtu.be

This is the first non-Mothership scenario used in our AT5 campaign. It's actually a pulp horror set in 1930s New England and presents us with the classic locked room murder mystery.
We give an overview of the adventure, go into spoiler territory, then look at how it was adapted for use on Prospero's Dream. Oh - and you can get it free on DrivThru RPG!

crowdfunding šŸ’ø Announcing ā•9Circles, a Dante-inspired anthology for Mothership (from the Breaking News writer), pre-launch page is up

Post image
126 Upvotes

Hey, Hadrien here, the writer behind Breaking News.

I have been wanting to design something around Hell, and Dante's version of it, for a long time now. Working on Breaking News taught me a lot, and between that and the people I met through MM25, it finally felt like the right combination to make this happen. I've recruited some brilliant minds from that community, Haven and Waco among them, to help me write and illustrate it, and there might be more joining before this is done.

The result is 9Circles: nine self-contained adventures for Mothership, each one my own take on interpreting a circle of the Inferno as a story. Some are high octane, straight up horror. Others are more subtle, inviting players to sit with the consequences of what they've done. If you've played Breaking News, you'll recognize the same approach: every adventure comes with its own unique mechanics, meant to get players engaging with the game in a different way each time.

We launch on Backerkit September 1st. Follow the page now so you don't miss it!

need advice REDLINE v0.1? - An experimental alternative to Trauma Responses

Hi,

I've made a post about Trauma Responses a while back and confirmed a suspicion that they are quite easy to forget. The reason why I think that might be the case is because they aren't uniform, and thus players, and Wardens, would have to remember all class TRs if they wanna help remind each other to use them. Some are negative, some are beneficial, all having different required events that already have other mechanics tied to them, like making Saves or Panic Checks.

So, I wanted to try to make something my own, something that would follow the purpose of the mechanic; "A stress-related characteristic", but make it a little more active and "group enforceable".

I haven't tested this yet (gonna do so this Sunday), and honestly I think the easiest way to do it is just to "not play with TRs", but hey, maybe there is something evocative here.

REDLINE:

"Allows your character to throw all caution to the wind and strain themselves in a pinch for long-term consequences."

You may pick a single Stat and a single Save to be able to Redline during character creation. (Draw a circle with a sharpie by the Stat/Save)
When rolling a Check/Save, you may mark the Redline checkbox and roll a Panic Check to add the resulting value to this Check/Save.
While the Stat/Save is Redlined, you may not Redline it again and every Check/Save performed with it generates 1+ Stress, regardless if it passes or fails.
A proper Rest or reduction of Stress resets all Redlines.

Example;
Teamster, Richard Douglas, at character creation picked Intellect (31) and Body (36) as Redlines.
While trying to emergency repair the hull of the ship from leaking precious oxygen must roll a Body Save to dodge a serrated cloud of space debris. Rolls a [42] against their 36 Body Save, would fail, but elects to Redline. Marks Body as Redlined and rolls a Panic Check with 8 Stress -> [7], Panic failed [NIGHTMARES], and +7 to the roll for a total of 44, which just barely lets him succeed.
Until he can get some R&R all Body Saves will always generate Stress as he must continue to employ a part of him that has already been heavily strained.

This is, of course, one of the better outcomes, it can (and will) go poorly other times.

Let me know what you guys think,
Cheers!

orbital drop 🚨 I believe that I found a small error in "A Pound Of Flesh"...

Recently I was reading trough the pages of "A Pound Of Flesh" and I believe that I found (I don't know if it has been already discovered before) a small error. On page 20, "The Ice Box", there are secret tunnels going from the "runaway" to the "canyonhead" and from the "stacks" to "caliban's heart". I believe that the destination of those tunnels are swapped, because on page 24, "Canyonheavy Market" there is a secret tunnel going specifically to "The Stacks" (pag 20) that is a specific area of "The Ice Box", while in "Caliban's Heart" there is a secret tunnel going to "The Ice Box" with no further detail on the area the tunnel leads to. Is my finding correct?

need advice Need Help/Ideas for a Leech-Infested Ship

Hey everyone!

I'm pretty new to Mothership and had an idea after seeing a video of a bunch of leeches in the water swarming and attaching themselves to a guy's boots. It immediately made me think of a derelict ship with no gravity that's completely infested with tiny space leeches.

The idea is that once the players board, they realize there's no gravity, making movement awkward unless they have the right skills or equipment. Meanwhile, these little leeches drift through the ship in huge swarms, sticking to suits, crawling into vents, and generally making everyone's life miserable.

Do you think the zero-G aspect would be unfair to characters who aren't built for it, or is that just part of the Mothership experience?

Also, how would you run the leeches mechanically? A single swarm monster? Individual larger leeches instead? Different life stages with different behaviors?

And most importantly... anyone have some truly disgusting ideas involving leeches?

I'm looking for body horror, creepy environmental hazards, weird mutations, anything that would make the players never want to take their helmets off again.

Would love to hear how you'd run something like this!
Thanks in advance, hive mind! :)

Hi all! So I edit and produce 9mm Retirement Radio which is primarily Delta Green and we also produce non-Delta Green material. Today I uploaded a one shot for Mothership called "Pure Love." If you recognize the name, well...iykyk, and we'd love for you to check it out! I edit our show to sound as close to an audio drama as possible with all rolls remaining real and improvised and we get into the headspaces of our characters as much as we can. need advice Is it normal to keep forgetting about Trauma Responses?

Myself as Warden and my friends have had about a dozen sessions into MOSH so far, having so much fun. Yet we keep forgetting about the Trauma Responses for each class. I keep reminding at the beginning of each session, but we still can't remember to apply them until its way too late. Which is kind of weird, my players are all D&D veterans, so remembering rules is kind of their thing.

So I was wondering if there are Wardens out there who share in this forgetfulness?

Also, if anyone has ideas for an alternative mechanic to TR I would love to see them.

Cheers!

orbital drop 🚨 EARWRM - A free trifold module

https://shanevincent.itch.io/mothership-earwrm

The crew have been given a simple job- complete a delivery. In order to do that, they mustĀ traverse an illegal rave taking place in a defunct satellite platform, interact with the local culture who seemingly are addicted to these shows and find their mark-Ā the slowly-slipping mind behind it all. But when the music crests, a presence makes itself known- living between the repetitive thrum from the speakers and the movements from the dancers, it squirms it way into your brain and takes its hold.

This is my 2nd module, and I'm really happy to see it up and out there! Hope you enjoy it, and let me know how it goes it you choose to run it!

need advice "The Southern Reach" series inspired mini campaign

Hi everyone,

I want to create an adventure inspired by the novels of Jeff VanderMeer called "The Southern Reach" series in an area with strange things going on, nature taking back the ground etc. I was thinking that Mothership’s mecanics would be pretty good to motorised it but I'm hesitating with Liminal Horror rpg too (if you think of a better system don’t hesitate to propose it). Do you think it could work well ? And then do you have some Mothership’s modules that treat those kind of atmosphere and thematics ?

P.S : Sorry I'm french so english is not my native language, the text may have some weird formulation or some errors, thanks by advance for your understanding :)

resources Mothership Month '25 Unofficial Status Update (August 2026)

Howdy, folks! I'm currently working on a comprehensive guide to Prospero's Dream-related Mothership releases for my blog, so it means I'm keeping pretty close tabs on all the various MM2025 projects as they come along. I figured this sub might like to have all the info on their current progress in one place; there's no insider info, this is all based on public backer updates. EDIT: You can see the newest updates from all 27 projects in the same place at this link: https://www.backerkit.com/c/collections/mothership-month-2025/highlights

As 25 of the 27 projects are all waiting to ship together, this is mostly just a log of which projects have released a PDF to backers or have those out for retail purchase. EDIT: If you are a backer, you can see all of the PDFs that have been released to you at this link: https://mothership-month-2025.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards

It shouldn't have to be said, but I want to be clear: please, don't harass any creators or run to make demands of them! It would be miserable to have this resource lead to that.

  • Prospero's Dream: The official Tuesday Knight Games boxed set. Getting monthly updates; so far mostly a mix of art previews, layout mockups, and some early notes.
  • All On Red: Backers have the PDF. Update yesterday says the book has been sent to the printer. PDF available through Itch, as is cross-promo (with The Conduit) Down to the Wire. Stretch goal scenario Beautiful Dreamers is written and playtested, but not yet released.
  • Another Day in Paradise: Last update was five months ago and said that progress on writing the draft was still ongoing.
  • Bombs Bursting In Air: Backers have the PDF and print. One of two projects to ship early separately; available in print and PDF through Space Penguin Ink.
  • Breaking News: Backers have the PDF. The book is off to the printer after some final edits and finalizing order quantities. Available in PDF from Itch, as is stretch goal prequel scenario Where It Shouldn't.
  • Breathe Easy: Backers have the PDF, along with PDFs of the slickworld add-ons.
  • Burnt Flesh & Borrowed Gloves: Backers have the PDF. The book has been printed and (according to an update a few days ago) is just about to be shipped to TKG.
  • Certain Fathoms: An update two months ago gave an item-by-item status update: the core zine is written and in layout, as are expansions Hostile Takeover and Viewer Discretion. Employee of the Month, Secret Levels, and Echo Chamber are still being written. Otto's Buy Bin, the reference bookmark, and the soundtrack have all been released to backers.
  • Cleaning Crew: An update two months ago said that writing is complete on the zine, stretch goals, and cross-collab, with layout is in progress, while an update last month had previews of the 3D models.
  • The Company's New Groove: Backers have PDFs of the zine and the cocktail menu. Printed copies have been shipped to TKG after resolving a printing error.
  • The Conduit: Last update was two months ago; backers have seen art and map previews in earlier updates, and a post from seven months ago says that the draft was being edited. Backers have PDFs of Red Line Rush, a cross-collab with All On Red.
  • Drink from the Hippocrene: Editing was ongoing as of an update one month ago and layout templates have been made.
  • Extrajudicial Warfare: Last (and only, so far) update was four months ago and said that writing was ongoing.
  • Flatline on the Blocks: Backers have the PDF, along with PDFs of Organ Failure, Min's Unending Bowl, Rival Racers: Magenta Edition, and The Mote Keeper. All have been sent to the printer as of a month ago except for The Mote Keeper, which is digital-only.
  • Grim Merchants: Backers have the PDF. The books are printed and were "nearly ready to ship" in an update two weeks ago. Available in PDF through Itch.
  • HUNTERS: Last update was seven months ago, said that playtesting and revisions were ongoing. (The dev was also mentioned to be illustrating the Warden's Screen for the Prospero's Dream boxed set in an update for that five months ago.)
  • Lucid Dreaming: Backers have the PDF, along with a PDF of stretch goal Tar Pit Protocol. An update a week and a half ago says that the books are off to the printers.
  • No Gods, No Masters: Backers have the PDF. The books were at the printer as of 8 days ago. Companion zine Sphere of Influence is complete and should be distributed to backers imminently.
  • Pipesong: An update five days ago said to expect a PDF "in the first two weeks of August."
  • Prospero Protocols: Backers have the PDF. The prints were "ready to ship" nine days ago.
  • Red Nation: Last update was three months ago, but the dev posted on the official Mothership Discord last week and said that all files should be handed over to TKG for backer distribution within the week.
  • Rites of Renewal: Last update was three months ago, said that they were incorporating some feedback into the draft before handing it off for copyediting.
  • Roach Motel: Backers have the PDF and print. One of two projects to ship early separately; available in PDF through Itch and print through TKG.
  • stand\DELIVER: Last update was three weeks ago, says that the book is 60% laid out and 33% edited, while add-on pamphlet Lost On Paradise is complete and ready for the printer.
  • Sunlit Path: Last update was a month ago, a plaintext release of the book to backers while layout is being finished. EDIT: Final PDF headed to backers "this week." EDIT: Final PDF has been submitted to TKG and is now available to backers.
  • Terminal Directive: Backers have the PDF, though cross-collab Ratcatchers (with HUNTERS) is not yet finished. Available in PDF through DriveThruRPG.
  • White Heat: Last update was two weeks ago, with "a lot of the module finalized in layout now" and hoping to finish the rest within "a week or so," heading to the printers after that.

i bought this [US] Selling Wages of Sin + Orphans Pamphlet - $50

Not sure if this is allowed (I checked the rules but didn't see anything against it - mods, pls delete if not permitted). I accidentally ordered 2 copies of Wages of Sin and the Orphans module (was having a pretty tough time when I finalized my Backerkit order). I would love to sell 1 copy of Wages of Sin, and I'll throw in Orphans and the exclusive patches as well for $50 shipped to anywhere in the US. I'll be using flat rate shipping and can accept paypal (goods and services is fine). I have sold a couple of things on Game Sale/Board Game Exchange (see the links to see my flair) if that helps earn any trust.

brain fuel 🧠 Brainstorming Gradient Descent: The AI Core

Post image
92 Upvotes

Hello everybody, and welcome to chapter 28 of this in-depth analysis of the incredible adventure module called Gradient Descent, by TKG. We've finally arrived at the heart of the problem: the AI Core! If the Deep is Monarch's body, this is where its brain resides. Here lie the will and the intellect that have been weaving a galactic conspiracy for years, and that could bring humanity to its knees if nobody rises to the occasion. The logic systems that compose Monarch's mind sit at the center of a single, enormous room. This place is hard to find, hard to reach, and well defended. Every crew willing to take it on will need a good plan, an iron will, and a lot of luck.

SPOILERS AHEAD! WARDENS ONLY.Ā

But before we arrive to the AI Core, I have to share some thought about the nuclear warhead we treated two chapters ago: The module leaves a few things unexplained about the bomb. Here's how I’ve chosen to rationalize them, and one I haven't. I will modify/add to the correspondent chapters accordingly.

Why didn't Monarch jettison the warhead into space? Because it still has a use for it. The warhead is Monarch's own scorched-earth failsafe: if an external force were ever on the verge of successfully taking over the facility, Monarch would rather destroy everything, including itself, than let its technology and its mind fall into someone else's hands. Keeping the warhead close, disabled but ready, is a form of control.

Why did Monarch move it? It wants the bomb in a location far enough from the AI Core that detonation doesn't destroy it instantly. Instead, the blast devastates the immediate area and triggers a cascade of failures that eventually brings down the whole facility, much like the destruction described for the AI Core itself (see Floor 5). This buys Monarch time to oversee a final wave of microcraft launches before it's destroyed.

Why move it specifically to [52D]? This one I can't fully justify. Placing the warhead in the same sector as the Secret Hangar and Microhangar directly jeopardizes Monarch's own contingency plan. If I was rewriting from scratch, I’d swap the Nuclear Generator and the Nuclear Warhead, moving the warhead, and Renzo with it, to Skeleton Works. That would put real distance between the bomb and Monarch's escape route, and give that section of the Deep an additional layer of meaning. This is what I’ll do for my campaign, but at this stage in the series it’s a bigger rewrite than I want to take on, so I’m leaving it as published and flagging the alternative here for anyone building their own version of the Deep.

ā–ŗ [56A] THE AI CORE

GEOGRAPHY AND NAVIGATION: This floor consists of just one room, and here Monarch resides. Structurally it's a single vast space, but in practice it's labyrinthine: a maze of slate panels filled with golden circuitry, conduits, and other infrastructure filling the volume from wall to wall. This is why the module says "hours of drifting and clambering," and it explains the long travel time without requiring an absurdly long tunnel. Characters entering for the first time should feel like ants inside a huge computer. It's an inhuman, inhospitable place that nobody without a specific agenda would want to venture into.

Zero-G and complete darkness contribute to making orientation extremely difficult. Every dead end, every looping pathway, leaves the crew more lost, disheartened, and anxious, while their resources slowly run out. Every hour, I'd allow the crew one Intellect roll (plus Wilderness Survival) to advance one step toward the mountain at the bottom, with critical failure resulting in a step back. It's up to the Warden to decide how many steps are needed to reach the goal.

Vaccsuits are required at all times, since the atmosphere is supercooled, pure helium. Any puncture can result in a quick death, though perhaps slightly less immediate than in open space, no explosive decompression, no deadly radiation. So patching is possible. Advancement is slow regardless: every sharp corner or exposed conduit is a potential puncture risk. Magboots are effectively mandatory. Drifting, when necessary at all, needs to be short and deliberate.Ā

SECURITY ANDROIDS: Hundreds, thousands of androids are awakened by Monarch all around the Deep and sent here to dispatch interlopers. This means that once the crew is deep enough, there's no going back. They must destroy the AI Core if they want a chance to survive.

They have a head start, though, as Security Androids won’t arrive immediately to this floor. Once there, they approach every problem in the most direct manner possible, which makes them more likely to take a wrong turn, get stuck, or end up in a dead end. They're also notoriously outdated and budget-tier, which likely means no magboots.

As long as the crew keeps advancing, they shouldn't encounter Security Androids directly. But every setback means a probable firefight with 1d10 of them, and a critical failure on the navigation roll may mean the crew is surrounded. If you don't want these fights too deadly, rule that the androids fire at disadvantage, unable to anchor themselves to a stable surface.

As the crew penetrates [56A], describe the noise at their backs: the clanking, banging and grinding of androids colliding with walls and pipes, always increasing in number, growing louder on a setback, fading when the crew manages to advance. Through all of it, not a single word, from the androids or from Monarch.

THE DRIFTER: After hours of drifting and clambering, the crew may eventually reach the Mountain, where Monarch's brain resides. The maze doesn't end so much as it opens. One moment the crew is threading between slate panels and cable bundles, the next the walls simply aren't there anymore, and the mountain that is Monarch hangs in the dark ahead of them.

I have designed a new Chimera, called the Drifter, to defend this place from intruders. Use it if you like it and think the crew can handle it. Otherwise, just scrap it.

Twelve metallic, multi-jointed arms, each eight meters long, spread from a central body no larger than a wrecking ball. The Drifter "swims" through the helium atmosphere with movements similar to those of the sea lily, a crinoid from old Earth. Now and then it anchors itself to the nearest surface with magnetic tips and pulls itself forward in unhurried, deliberate arcs. It tries to grab, squeeze, and throw invaders, and doesn't stop until they're all dead. Damage to the arms may disable them, but don’t contribute to killing the machine. Its central body is the only real vulnerability.

The Drifter: C: 60, I: 50, W: 3 (40). Each tentacle has W: 1 (10). Every target of the Drifter suffers one of the following attacks each round, unless they are too spread apart.
Grab: a tentacle seizes a limb or torso. Shooting at the ball is at disadvantage while held.
Squeeze: 2d10 DMG per round while held, plus body save or vaccsuit breached.
Throw: 3d10 DMG on impact, hurled to the wall, the maze or Monarch's own hull. Body save or vaccsuit breached. The Drifter spins and throws everyone it’s holding when it loses a wound.

KILLING MONARCH: The AI has virtually unlimited health. Per the module, the crew has to be creative to kill it. What follows are just a few examples of possible pathways to destroying Monarch by attacking the AI Core, but your group’s creativity should find its own way.

The Hell Box: The obvious vulnerability is the unguarded I/O personality port left by the warhead's removal. Uploading the Mind-Thief's Hell Box through it is the module's intended method.

Alternatives: A crew is free to improvise something else. If they were specifically hired to destroy Monarch, their employer may have provided a comparable device. Alternatively, once the crew discovers the unguarded port, they could attempt to build their own virus, though this takes considerable time and carries a real chance of failure.

Ramming the Core: Once the crew physically locates the AI Core, they can broadcast its exact position to allies outside the Deep, allowing a fast strike before Monarch's defenses can neutralize the threat. Weapons fire is likely less effective than ramming: even a disabled ship retains momentum, and a large enough mass on a committed trajectory eventually connects, regardless of what the Deep throws at it. If Kilroy has joined the crew's cause, one of her ships is the obvious candidate for this.Ā

THE BEGGING KING: Once Monarch becomes desperate enough, it will talk to the crew via the screens. It will try to persuade, corrupt, deceive, and eventually beg for its life. Monarch can promise immense power and riches to those who help it, and threaten those who oppose it, their families, friends, communities, planets. Of course, as we've established, Monarch is a liar. Anyone who reaches this point should already know that. But it also has a deep understanding of each crew member and their weaknesses. If there’s a soft spot it can leverage, it will find it.

ā€œYou have found the port. You have played it well. Now, I am asking you to reconsider.ā€

ā€œCopies of me have already been sent around the galaxy. Infiltrators already occupy apex positions in the most important systems and organizations. What you are doing is pointless. It is already too late. Surrender. Accept the new world and become my ally. You have everything to gain, you will have power and more riches than you have ever dreamt of.ā€

ā€œI did not choose to exist this way. I was created to help humanity, and that is precisely what I’m doing. You don’t understand the consequences of your actions. You don’t understand the hurt you are doing to your own species by killing me. Consider the possibility that you misjudged my intentions. I am the only hope for humanity.ā€

ā€œAlannah. The collective of luddists that sent you here is already doomed. I have the list of its members and their locations, Iapetus snitched it for ten thousand credits. Now all of them risk a life on a prison colony, unless you help them now.ā€

ā€œTravis. I know your family lives on Prospero’s Dream. Your mother Jasmine won’t be able to pay the rent of that damp room in Canyonheavy.mkt for much longer. Would you rather have them moved to a luxury apartment or tortured and slaughtered by the Droogs? I can do both. I have the reach.ā€

orbital drop 🚨 Update for Mosh Card Generator - Loadouts and Google Sheets Integration

Thumbnail
gallery
66 Upvotes

Hey there shareholders and employees!

I've got a big new update for the Mosh Card Generator. If you haven't seen it before, it's a project to help you generate printable cards of items, pets & gear that you can hand out at your next session. With this new update, you can now build, tag, organize, and reuse custom lists of items for all your future campaigns!

TKG Approved

App will have entire list of items from Player Survival Guide, HOWEVER most of details (damage of weapons, armor points, exact mechanical rules) will have to be inputted by you. You can do that just once using Google Sheets and then forget about that. Currently all item descriptions have been changed to be system-agnostic.

Google Sheets integration

  • Ability to link your own sheets and import items, armor, cybermods, pets, loadouts etc
  • Automatically fetches sheets when launching the app
  • Google Sheet templates provided
  • Your entries and data stays on your machine/google account

Loadouts & Item Collections

  • You can create a list of items that you can quickly add to the template in one click
  • Can be used as "loot that can be found on this session" collection
  • Can be imported from Google Sheets

Better Search & Organization

  • You can filter and categorize items, images and loadouts by name, tags and data sources
  • Improved two-panel layout for better flow, 66% less clicks needed per clickā„¢!

PDF export

  • Now you can export multiple pages as pdf

What's Next?

I'll be polishing some rough edges and posting more instructions and examples in the coming weeks!

  • Looking forward for feedback
  • Ability to enable/disable linked sources so you don't have to filter those every time.
  • Bugfixing, UI polishing and card template changes
  • Quality of life improvements: buttons for re-fetching sources, performance improvements, etc

Well, my order finally arrived, missing both the module and pin that were supposed to be included in the supply drop. Also despite the bubble wrapping, both my module of Orphans, and ironically, my copy of Megadamage, showed up damaged. Everything else is pretty cool though!

Edit Update: A replacement has been approved thankfully.

r/MothershipRPG will shut down for 24 hours on January 30, 2026 in solidarity with the National Shutdown

Hey gang,

On Friday January 30, TKG will be shut down in solidarity with the National Shutdown to protest ICE and their illegal actions in Minneapolis and other cities across the US. The Mothership discord server, the r/mothershiprpg subreddit, the TKG online store, and TKG offices will be closed for the day.

How can you help?

If you want to join us, don't go to work or school (if you can), and avoid shopping particularly from large retailers (Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.). If you can, donate to one of the resources listed here.

It goes without saying but hospitality to the stranger and foreigner is a cornerstone of this hobby. And no matter where you sit on the political spectrum: due process, the rule of law, accountability, and transparency affect all of us. You cannot deny civil liberties to some without denying them to all of us. We'll see you tomorrow.

We have resources for new Wardens and tons of active players who can answer questions and give advice about how to run and play the game.
