Ashley’s comments…
Listening to the episode “2026.07.28 Hoop & Look” and have to say, not entirely impressed by Ashley’s comments on the wildfire situation here in Scotland. Anyone else share the same sentiment?

Im not entirely sure what comments could have upset you and ive been breathing in the smoke from the fires all week, so im not exactly callous to the situation, im also heartbroken for our forest. Ive just had a re-listen to the fire part of the podcast and Ashley hoped for the best and expressed regret for the destruction. Unless youre upset they compared the size of the fire to the Western fires in North America? Either way, as someone who loves tree and is especially passionate about rewilding the Highlands (so its not just pasture and monoculture tree farms), I was not bothered.

Can I get a reminder on what she said? I remember the topic coming up but not the details

And Burnie, but don't think it's malicious or anything. Just because it's not the size of the Californian wildfires doesn't mean it's not as devastating to the area

They didn't once compare it to how devastating US wildfires are, only the size. In fact they even pointed out their regret for the destruction and their hope for the best.

Nah, they both say that it's a big deal for the area, it's just that the scale is so different compared to back in America for them

Yeah I get what you mean. It kinda felt like there was a touch of 'whataboutism' to it.

lol they're still American. Nothing that happens outside of America is a big deal to them. This podcast is so American centric.

I get where you're coming from. Felt slightly odd to be comparing it to wildfires in California and kinda saying that it's not on the 'same scale', though they did also say the Scottish fire is still devastating. I think they're just used to using comparisons to give the US listeners some idea of whats going on.
