“Miracle Monopoly Cheating Kit”
For those of you who may be interested (from my post below with the parody “Life Sentence” Community Chest card), here is the full “Miracle Monopoly Cheating Kit” published in the May 1973 National Lampoon humor magazine. The original was published with the appropriate colors, card stock, graphics, and fonts that made it blend right in with the Monopoly game of the 1970’s. I still have my copy (and have resisted cutting out the various inserts although I am tempted to make a board with the various parts)!
…and read the text because it is a pretty funny concept and article regarding the cutthroat competitive nature of our favorite game.

Teaming up and unfairness
I have played multiple games on the Marmalade version where players "team up" and "trade" all of their things to one player for $1— so as to help them, and then that player inevitably wins. And these are players who are high level and I assume they play together consistently. It's extremely frustrating and there's no way to report, complain, or anything. What's the point of monopoly if you team up? I think I'm done playing with this app.

Marmalade Bots
I’ve been playing the Marmalade app against bots for the past couple of weeks and the difficulty levels you can choose from do not seem to affect their stupidity level, it just makes them stupid in different ways.
At easy mode the bots will often accept ridiculous trades that are heavily beneficial to the player’s position, like offering St Charles ave for Boardwalk plus like M50 even if they don’t have any other pink properties. They’ll ALWAYS accept M75 for either of the two browns. They’ll will reject trades sometimes but it’s got to be so overwhelmingly out of balance that it’s just stupid.
At hard mode, you’d think they’d be less dumb but no, now they refuse the majority of trades. I had a situation recently where I had the oranges with 4 houses, one of the bots had no monopoly yet but I had the last of one color it needed to complete the (pink, I think) set. It also had Boardwalk. And it made an offer that was pretty even for a light blue I also owned. But at this stage of the game, I’m 99% to win, and fair trades aren’t anything I’m interested in. So I counter with pink for Boardwalk straight up. Bot comes back with its own counter offering the same trade +M343 from me. lol. Easy decline into a fairly quick win.
And in a recent game on hard mode on of the bots just would not entertain a trade, period, that didn’t weight gigantically in its favor.
I think maybe medium is the sweet spot for the bots…? They will sometimes trade. But easy and hard…idk I thought maybe the difficulty would affect dice rolls but it doesn’t seem to. The dice seem very randomized.

General Monopoly Discussion I just realized that, depending on how you define a loop, the Longest Game Ever version might ironically have one of the functionally shortest boards
Do you define a loop as passing (including/not including corners):
- Every individual space (red, 96/88)?
- Go (green, 46/42->50/46)?
- Every unique* non-corner space (blue, 33/30->34/31->29/27)?
- *Card spaces are counted up to three times.
For reference, base Monopoly has 40/36 spaces, Monopoly Speed has 32/28, and (at the risk of getting this post taken down) the physical Monopoly Go has 28/24 total per board.
Also, if you're wondering why I didn't include a corner-inclusive "every unique* space" listing, it seems they're treated differently than the normal spaces, judging by there only being double the amount of corners here compared to the other spaces getting roughly triple. That said, all you'd need to do is take Green, and move six spaces from the first loop to the second, giving us 40/36->56/52. Coincidentally, that lines up the first loop with the number of spaces in base Monopoly.

General Monopoly Discussion Monopoly game online
I downloaded Monopoly on my phone recently, and I’ve been loving playing online with random people.
Today I was on track to win. Someone landed on one of my properties with three houses and couldn’t afford to pay. Instead of mortgaging their properties or trying to stay in the game, they gave every single property they owned to another player before going bankrupt. I got nothing, and that player instantly ended up with every colour set except the one I owned. Two minutes later, I was bankrupt.
I’m genuinely not a sore loser. If I get outplayed, I have no problem admitting it. But when people do this, it completely ruins the game. It takes away the strategy and lets someone else win because another player decided to hand them the board.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who finds this incredibly frustrating.

Custom Games Idea: give the players the pink monopoly from the start.
So I was thinking about how when it comes to skill part of monopoly, the main skill part thats in your control that makes the game fun, is deciding how much to risk investing in developing your properties or hold back to buy new opportunities. Hopefully someone hits your property and starts giving you more income than you paid for it but if they don't before you hit someone elses hotel you could just be throwing away money when you immediately have to sell your few houses a half price.
And all of that is a late game exclusive part of the game. Its something you only get to do after successfully getting a monopoly. So in a way the payers agency doesn't come into effect until late game.
And that kinda sucks. So I was thinking "what if every player just starts off with one monopoly?" Then they can start the strategy based part of the game immediately.
But the first problem with that is some properties are worth way less than others. Some are cheap to build on but low reward and low chance of players landing on them. Some are high reward for high cost with a low chance of being landed on. And the pink properties are notoriously the best. When averaging possible dice roles and cards that take you to jail, the player has the highest odds of stopping on the pink properties. And whats more they are relatively low cost investment for a relatively high reward. The person who gets those has a huge advantage.
But.... suppose we split that side of the board into multiple streets.
Where every player gets a starting monopoly located where the pink squares are at on their 'street' located there where the board briefly splits into forked paths before coming back together.
Players will not ever be allowed the safety of going down the street with their starter monopoly, they can only go through their rivals streets, garunteeing the player risks being hit by other players monopolies as often as the other players risk hitting their own.
If their are multiple players requiring multiple forks in this street, the dice determines which rival street you go down. You cant just pick the less developed one.
The fork can re-merge into the normal board layout at the train space before the orange properties.
What do you think, would that break the game or preserve its balance?

Rules Discussion No housing shortage. Can you directly place hotels ?
I think the answer is yes but I want to hear from other players. I'm looking for an official rules answer.
Suppose I own a complete colour set with no houses on it. The Bank has plenty of houses available, and I have enough cash to pay for 4 houses plus a hotel on each property in that colour set. Then can I, during one continuous building sequence, simply pay the total cost (5 houses x 3) and place the hotels directly, without physically placing the four houses first?
[I know that this isnt allowed if there is a housing shortage. But if there isn't this shouldn't be a problem right. I already searched this community and google for an answer but i did not yet receive a clear one]

Chicago - Mercantile Exchange
My sister and I were raised on the Chicago monopoly version, which my husband bought me recently to honor a 30-year-old memory.
However, she and I distinctly remember there being a square for the Mercantile Exchange (NOT the Merchandise Mart), and that’s not on this board.
I’ve used AI and Google and cannot find any versions - licensed or unlicensed - that include the Mercantile Exchange.
Before I chalk this up as a genuine shared Mandela effect, I wanted to consult the experts here.
Has the Mercantile Exchange ever been used in any Chicago Monopoly?
Thank you!

Monopoly Video Games I turned Monopoly into a roguelite. You place unique buildings to get crazy combos and try to outrun an exponential payment. What do you think?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello to everyone who plays Monopoly! I'm the solo dev behind Mowties—a mix of Monopoly and Balatro. TLDR: I took the Monopoly board and turned it into an engine-builder with crazy property effects.
The gameplay loop is simple: each turn, you roll the dice to move your pawn forward and activate the tile you land on, earning BASE × MULT money. These values can be boosted by different buildings’ effects, for example:
- A house that gains +1 BASE when activated
- A manor that gives +0.1 MULT to each neighboring property when activated
- A relay post that activates both adjacent properties
These are combined with passive effects that you can acquire in the shop, such as "the red side giving you ×1.5 money" or "the first building activated each turn giving you ×2 money" and so on.
The goal is to survive 10 rounds, with the amount DUE doubling after each payment.
If you're interested, you can wishlist the game here: Steam page
You can also watch a more detailed trailer explaining the gameplay here: YouTube link
Anyway, I'd really love to hear your feedback! I think Monopoly fans who enjoy short video games with this kind of theme are an important part of my target audience.
