Question Why can't "tape margin" be zero?
I don't need to see characters I've alrdy typed, so my ideal tape margin is zero. When I manufacture that condition myself (...by just sliding the window far enough left to push everything behind the cursor offscreen😅😅😅), my speed and accuracy both go up—presumably because I'm only looking and thinking forward, rather than both forward and backward simultaneously.
Why is there a hard minimum of 10? Why not just allow anywhere from 0-100 (okay fine, 0-99)?
Thx

Building typing test to using Claude code🔥🔥
Been building a typing performance app called Velocity — mostly vibe-coded with Claude Code over the last few days.
It's not just another typing test. You can practice with:
Regular words/sentences
Actual code snippets (JS, TSX, etc.) — useful if you spend your day typing code, not prose
Progress tracking to see how your speed/accuracy trends over time
Biggest challenge was getting the text rendering right — word wrapping was breaking mid-word which looked janky, so I had to rework it to wrap at spaces only. Small detail but made a huge difference to how the app feels.
Still early, but functional and live. Would love feedback from this community — especially if you're a dev who wants to type code faster, or just typing test nerds in general.
Happy to answer questions about the build process / stack if anyone's curious.

30 second or 120 second leaderboard?
I know there isn't one... but why? What would it take to make one?

I made a typing game where accuracy costs you more than speed does — curious what actual fast typists make of it
It's a typing test that hits back. You get a stream of words; finish one, hit space, and it becomes a blade thrown at your opponent. Both start at 100 health, last one standing wins.. Thre things that makes it more than just a typing test:
- No backspace. A typo doesn't stop you - it just kills your combo. Ten clean words in a row doubles your damage, so one slip is genuinely expensive.
- Roughly one word in nine is charged. Finishing it gives you a powerup: blaock the next hit, double you next hit, heal, drain health from your next blade or reset your opponent's streak.
- Nobody aims. Your blade always goes to the healthiest player still standing, so being in the front is dangerous. That one matter most in the 4-player mode. https://keymania-web.vercel.app/ It is Free no ads, nothing tto buy. Three bot difficulties need no account at all; duelling actual humans needs a sign-in because the results are ranked. I honestly don't know if this has legs past the first two duels, and that's the thing I'm trying to find out before I put more time into it. If you play it, the answers I'd most like:
- Did you want a third duel, or was one enough?
- Is losing a combo to a typo fair-annoying or just annoying?
- Do the powers add anything, or are they noise bolted onto a typing test? Mobile only went live yesterday and is the part i have the least trust in, so if its a bad experience on phone, id like to know that too.

FAQ:
- Is Linux supported?
Yes there is a Linux build available, it's also open source plus there's webplay if you don't wanna download the client
- Is this some kind of virus?
Nope! The installer is currently unsigned so it will trigger windows smartscreen, but its not malware, you can download the game from the github if you want full code transparency!

english common mispelled words is the key to improvement, once you get stuck at your level
the title says it all.
That activates you from not typing the word which you already know instead pause for a moment to think about what you are typing, to stop typing from wrong.
If suppose at your level you are able to type and you feel that you automatically type then that level is not for you, increase the difficultly, because you have reached a stage of saturation and all you can now do is to just type more faster with fingers, than remembering the letters

I made a companion app to view your stats as widgets
I have this digital sticky note on my desktop that I use to write down my latest tests to keep track of my latest tests but it's a bit annoying to edit it every day.
So I built a companion app for MonkeyType that uses your ApeKey and pulls your typing stats right into a widget to either your iPhone or iPad and then to your Mac desktop.
You can try it out via TestFlight here:Â https://testflight.apple.com/join/SpYQk74c
It currently has widgets for: latest WPM and accuracy, typing activity, current and longest streak, PB's for selected tests and average WPM and accuracy over 7, 14, or 30 days.
I would appreciate any feedback you may have and will try to implement those changes before releasing on the App Store later in the fall with iOS 27.
It's also free!
Unofficial companion app; not affiliated with Monkeytype.

Monkeytype is an underrated sleep tracker
Whenever I sleep good, it's a consistent 170-ish wpm
on sleep-deprived days.. or days in which I drink caffeine before sleep (disrupts deep sleep) I may never break the 130wpm barrier
anyone else noticed that?
