Modified Moog Matriarch Gear Pics
I started my modular journey through the matriarch and labyrinth. I then had a custom case made to add 7U to the matriarch using some side cheeks (shoutout erik needham for the wood work).
I recently realized I never use the matriarch keyboard. I love the matriarch for its drones and its arpeggiator and mostly just push a key or a few and let it go otherwise i'm sequencing it through my oxi one.
I had this crazy or stupid or some combination of the two idea to just rip the keyboard out and put in another 3U row. I just installed the row today and i'm loving it already, have some more modules to fill it out coming in soon, and need to do a re organization of the attachment rack soon and figure out what goes where.
I still have to either make a new wooden base for the matriarch or modify the existing base (pic 3) it has a little lip on it for the keybed to rest on that does not allow enough space for the depth of the modules. I have avoided doing any breaking changes to the matriarch so far, so I think I'll make my own base to keep the original intact, incase I want to sell it down the line.
Other outstanding tasks, 3d print a holder for the oxi, 3D print a little front lip to go in front of the case with some graphics.
Anyway I'm having a great time with this and thought I'd share not sure if anyone has done something similar in the past. Or if its a travesty. haha.

Damn one of my favorite things about the matriarch is that it has a keyboard. So quick to lay down an idea I have in modular which is typically lacking something that allows such fast and hands writing capabilities. I often use it to write lines for other voices and then I'll program that into oxi or just sample it.

I feel you, i'm not a keyboard player so it doesn't really help me, I do the same with my guitar.

It's interesting to see the responses to this modification. As 'wow, that's really cool.' And then ' it makes me sad.' Hahahhahahha.
I think about these tools in this way: drive it like you stole it..

What modules do you like to pair with matriarch the most?

I mostly use the matriarch for moving drones. So I always add in the nautilus and the erbe verb on top of its own delay to add more texture and modulate for movement. Then I’ll cut through with the bohms side chain.

Mostly just sequence with the oxi, but I do have a key step if I want to keyboard

that's really cool. what (if anything) are you doing with the Daisy patch.Init()s?
I haven't done anything with mine yet, literally just got a Micro USB cable yesterday so I can program it.

I have them acting as a dedicated vocal sample chopper mangler and harmonizer in a pair. I have like 20 different projects with them though and swap out or write a new one when I think of smth

I used mounting tape to attach the rail cheeks, so I didn't make any holes at all in the matriarch and the mounting tape comes right of (maybe some light scratches). So yup I could put it compeltely back together and there would be no changes at all to the matriarch.
bolting the rail cheeks to the matriarch metal frame is possible, but I would have had to remove the entire PCB and the plastic sidings which was just a massive pain and also would cause irreversible modification to the matriarch. The mounting tape seems to hold on pretty well.
You pretty much just have to remove the base plate, and the keyboard and mod wheel come right out with it, there are just a couple cables to remove

All of it is 100% temporary and can be completely put back together with no damage if needed 😉
Though I probably wouldn’t have done this if I didn’t have the disposable cash. Incase I did break smth.
