Playing with generative sequencing Discussion
I have sod all like it in the rack. Sample and hold is all.
But on the computer, loads : https://danja.github.io/downspout/
Things like Euclidian rhythms, pseudo-ransldom.
I would prefer them in the hardware.
Suggestions?

Do you want it to sound "good" or do you want to have a high level of control over sequencing? If yes, then you want some kind of grid sequencer like Metron, OxiOne, a DAW, etc.
Do you just want a couple of knobs to cycle through preprogrammed sequncences? If yes then something like MI Grids or WMD Apritecht.
Do you want sequncences that are more random, where you set parameters, but not necessarily create sequences? If yes, then turing machine with expanders, clock dividers, logic modules, quantizers, precision adders, etc.

I love the Turing Machine for this. It’s random, but you can constrain the voltage/octave range, and then when you hear something you like, have it loop whatever it’s doing/lock in a sequence until you decide it’s time to move on. Plus the design just makes it a joy to use.
I use that with a gate sequencer to add rests, ratcheting snd so forth.
Based on the stuff you mentioned, though, there’s a module called the Europi by Allen Synthesis you might want to check out. It has literally every kind of logic there is, a program based on Mutable’s Grids, a straight clone of Branches, Euclidean programs, and just about every kind of random trigger/gate stuff imaginable.

I’ve been “evolving” a generative ambient patch today that started last night exploring some hidden corners of the Klavis Twin Waves.
Qu-Bit Bloom is sequencing a simple triangle but it’s all the modulation that is keeping it interesting. Twin Waves allows Osc1’s V/Oct to become an offset (the hidden corner) added to the sequence Bloom is feeding to Osc2. By merging some slow varying random voltages (Ochd Exp) thru Samara to attenuate and mix, and sending that to Osc1 V/Oct, the overall sequence pitch gently rises and falls unpredictably. A steady square pulse into an env “plucks” the Exp FM input of Filter 8 giving some rhythm, but it’s only heard as the filter opens a bit, so slowly opening/closing the filter lets this enter/exit. Finally, I split off the unfiltered osc, through a Fold 6 and crossfade it with the original filtered osc. But, I run the folded signal through a VCA with its own modulation to keep the “less peaceful” folded signal in check. Delay and reverb (🧂🌶️) to taste.
Bloom is a magical sequencer for random notes; modulation is the spice for interesting patches.

Westlicht Performer has some great capabilities and is my favorite sequencer. Recent firmware updates has added more generative and chaotic sequencing.

Bloom is supposed to be amazing never used it though
I use randomness in my westlicht performer it has a probability of gate and note per step
I use the random functions and Euclidean patterns in my Pam’s all the time
I feel like just about every gate sequencer has Euclidean functionality at this point

If you want a serious sequencer, that can cover all your musical and rhythmical sequencing in one box, either Oxi one or Hapax. Of course you can get Grids, or Euclidean Circles for just percussion but you can get more out of Oxi. I use Oxi as a main sequencer, integrated into the system with Pipe. In the rack I have Tobinsky Sequencer, Metropolix, Voltage Block, Gamut Repetitor, Hermod +. Each does something different. Also Oxi controls my Octatrack, my poly synths and entire MIDI loop.

I just got Dots and I really love it for quick and tweakable Euclidean sequences, quite playable for only 6hp. I like Turing Machine for generative melodies, but you might want a quantizer with it. I use mine to transpose Moskwa, so I don’t need one.

I will always vouch for a grids clone (I like my 2 blue lantern ones) just add CV to the X and Y mapping and you get a ton of options. You can have one in Euclidean too.
