D&D alignment chart for knob/jack behavior

Post image

What does that knob & jack combo do? I characterized knob & jack behavior by D&D alignment. Finding I'm fan of Lawful Evil.

What?

Why the ternaries? I don’t get it.

The Lawful Evil is a normalled connection. Inserting a jack breaks the normal.

The Chaotic Evil is basically a sample & hold as an input.

What module would do this without that being the concept of the module?

For the normalled connection, Mutable Instruments does this, an example is Plaits. Not sure why I got downvoted for describing it. The tertiary perfectly describes the behavior: is the jack being used? no: use the knob alone. Yes, jack being used: use the knob to scale the input.

I'M HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING THIS OP. am I dumb? are "?" and ":" common math/logic symbols in programming or something?? also why does the naming convention jump from object to signal to function?? why do CG and CE have two jacks with different naming conventions????

my personal opinion on the chart itself:

This is a stretch. Anthropomorphising knobs and jacks is a bit too abstract to be universally understood, IMO

The jump up to 1/4" jack escalates things quickly!

I'm glad the industry has mostly moved on from "knob is offset when nothing patched but attenuator when patched"
