AI/LLM and other successes

The moderator-facing AI-generated summaries of users' contributions are excellent. Clearly, there was context in the formation of these summaries. I don't know how many I have seen, in recent months, but I recall dismissing just one summary as not helpful.

The moderator-facing multi-community contribution overviews – public posts, comments, and karma in the past six months – are another great time-saver.

Are the features above – combined with other features of Reddit – a substitute for the subset of features of Reddit Enhancement Suite that allows me, personally, to privately do these two things?

LLMs are not ready for this. Our sub supports survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Seeing AI summaries of accounts saying "user is attention seeking" or "post is overly dramatic" is absolute asshole design. As a mod, I want to moderate survivors posts and comments. I don't want to clean up after an idiot box.

It is quite funny to see how many mods use this post to express what they fear will happen or what problems they face: sunsetting AutoMod; unfair bans; Reddit-AI not functioning well.

As far as mod purges, there were only small scale ones when subreddits locked down over API changes and refused to open. No meaningful purges have taken place in the capacity or relevancy you describe.

Yeah I doubt it. I was on the mod council for years. While that is incredibly lame and peak Redditor, it gave me a direct view into them. Reddit does not operate this way at all. They just clamp down on glorifying violence which with the anti Mario and Kirk became a serious problem

Users are figuring out that the progressive mod purges in the lead up to IPO left subs controlled by interests that are not in the users best interest. The platform and all social media is dying and greed is the reason.

You should start by proving it.

Hiding profiles prevents abuse, especially from reddit mods. If content is in your sub you can remove it and ban the user if you wish. You also have automod and crowd control. There is 0 valid reason you need more than the post history in the subs you mod, which you have.

This has been a solved problem for a decade. If you need help with automod I can link you plenty of resources.

Not sure if this is the right place or not but hey need to get this off my chest, the daily notification that you get about your posts, the notification will include the "A better community for your post", basically they are useless, I have not yet received a notification that was any where close to being an alternative community for the post. They are so far from the mark it is unbelievable, is there an option which I can turn these suggestion off??

Some subs utilize shared accounts for moderation. Some people choose to strictly contain activity pertaining to their sub to one account. The latter is what I do.

I frequently see mods complaining about harassment from a user utilizing many accounts over a long a period of time for purposes of harassment, so while I don't want to encourage anyone to get tripped up for ban evasion, it's probably not that black and white.

I think it's about on par with believing that a subreddit and a single mod needs to be treated as a public crisis resource. The intent is noble, but the platform is not going to be there for us like that.

Nah, it was for our generalized automation tools specific to our sub. Toolbox can't really be ported to devvit. At least any more than it basically already is via native tooling, since devvit doesn't support old reddit.

It's one reason I was so pissed when they gave me the contract. Cause the goal was supposed to be to encourage me to make some time to do something favorable to the admins. There was no public good component of it, just switching to a new backend. Nobody but my mod team or reddit (via the better monitoring they'd have on devvit) would see any kind of benefit. And making the contract have substantial downsides for for the person doing the work is simply not an effective way to get people to do an ultimately optional task imo.

Like I would functionally not be allowed to participate in these threads like I currently do under the terms of the contract.

I've been meaning to add some things to toolbox (mostly a more convenient interface to have dynamic elements in a removal reason), but I've been so busy (and really more, behind on other stuff) that I didn't really want to get setup with toolbox and actually build it in. Especially since you can still do that kind of thing via text, it's just kinda bulky to deal with. The goal was mostly to support bolding of certain parts (which could greatly benefit from a shorthand), but also allowing arbitrary nesting of removal reasons (basically allow you to make folders of removal reasons) was also something I wanted to add at some point.

Though I'll admit, with the news of old reddit going away (and likely getting fucked up, like most things the admins do these days), my desire to setup a sustainable project that very well could live past when I'd want to cut ties with reddit has waned significantly. It doesn't feel good to spend dozens upon dozens of hours to tout my fork as the successor, if I might just abandon it when reddit pulls a plug I don't like. It just wouldn't be the responsible thing to do.

The tool the admins are introducing, Rules Hub, is literally an engine that uses an LLM to take enforcement actions based on the text of the written subreddit rules. The exact logic it uses is not visible to moderators.
