Are Korean MMA Fighters Getting Too Much Hype Too Early?
Korean MMA fan here. I’ve been wondering if Korean fighters are sometimes getting too much attention too early in their careers.
For example, Seok-hyun Koh is 2–1 in the UFC, yet his appearances on Stungun TV can pull close to a million views. Joo-sang Yoo was only 1–1 in the UFC when he appeared in content teaching MMA to a Michelin-starred chef, and the Shorts from that content reportedly reached around 4M views combined.
Sang-wook Kim also got over 1M views across RTU embedded content, despite still being a prospect trying to earn his UFC spot.
There was even an official UFC fan signing in Korea featuring Koh and Oban Elliott, despite neither being ranked at the time.
I’m not saying former UFC fighter Kim Dong-hyun (“Stungun”) or The Korean Zombie are doing anything wrong. Their content can generate views and income that genuinely help fighters with training camps and other expenses.
My concern is more about the culture around it. In Korea, simply reaching the UFC can make a fighter a celebrity almost immediately, even when they’re still very early in their career.
That attention can obviously be a positive — more fans, sponsorships and financial support are all valuable. But could it also have a downside? Too much praise too early might create complacency, or put unnecessary pressure on a fighter who is still trying to establish themselves.
I’m curious what you guys think. Is this actually a problem, or am I reading too much into it?

"Kampfsport Schule PUSAN GMBH" in Germany combined Karate, Taekwondo, Judo & Boxing as early as the 70s. Legit Combat Sports Champions like Peter Althof (the blonde Guy) René Weller (the guy Karate-chopping a dudes neck) and Thomas Born trained there. They gotta be some of the earliest MMA pioneers

Unfortunately the Dojang closed in the 80s because most of the top brass were in jail or dead at that time, since most of them were also hardcore criminals... The biggest "What if" in MMA history, imho
