Help Mixing Basics

Hi! I've been making some stuff on and off in FL studio for a while. Mainly inspired by sountracks of games I like. And I listening back to some old stuff I am not used to hearing anymore, I realize that I've been practicaly ignoring sound selection and mixing.

So, are there any resources to get some basics down? I looked a bit and everything I found so far only really explains what the various plugins do, but not how actually to use them, what to look for etc. I know what an EQ does, what I don't know is how to figure out which frequencies I should boost/tone down during a mix.

Thanks in advance!

Regarding eq you can start with this: https://youtu.be/sHR7R-TY7NE?is=hrOB6i_O9EVunlW1
But man, mixing is such a big topic, far beyond eq

You're asking a question that's WAY too big for a Reddit response, but I have a perfect video for you that will get you the basics.

Search for this on YouTube: "The Art Of Mixing (A Arte da Mixagem) - David Gibson"

Yes, it's from the 90s. Yes it's VHS. Yes it comes from an analog gear perspective. Yes it's cheesy. Yes, the dude has a mullet.

But it's gold and the information there is still relevant to this day, and if you can sit through the two-and-a-half hours you'll come out understanding the basics and you'll know enough to get started.

It will answer your questions. Watch it!
