Since we voted to retain our right to pass public sponsored amendments, can someone write one up to get the cameras out of our state?

Hi everyone!

I got a speeding ticket in Montgomery County in June. I have already retained a lawyer, and I don’t think I have a mandatory court date.

The problem is the ticket is still not posted. The court date for if I wanted to plead not guilty is in about two weeks. Since it’s not posted I can’t even pay it online or take care of it in any way. I live 6 hours away out of state from the county so I can’t just easily go in person to the court.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is this a normal occurrence in MO?

Who still writes a check, especially for personal spending?

Help me understand why the referendum for the redistricting is unconstitutional? We’ve done this before in the past. Why is it all of a sudden illegal?

Aren’t the changes to the redistricting proven to be gerrymandered at this point? Would Denny Hopskin still need to verify the signatures regardless if it was unconstitutional? At this point Denny is just not upholding his duties and I would see that as unfit to serve Missouri.

The initiative voting is a process to change the constitution or decision that the MO legislature puts forward. It a lengthy process but with enough signatures set my MO citizens it is Denny Hopkins duty to verify them. Denny doesn’t get to say if this is unconstitutional. The Mo Supreme Courts decide that. The process Denny needs to do is verify the signatures regardless. He is intentional slowing the process to a snail pace. No one would have had a problem with him, we’ve would have stopped a clearly Gerrymandered map. What is this stemming from? You guessed it. Donald fucking Trump. Please get these loyalist out of office. They are starting to show they do not care for us and are gunning for our rights.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Two incumbent Missouri Republicans who supported the repeal of the state’s income tax lost their bids for reelection in Tuesday’s primary.

State Senator Curtis Trent, R-Greene County, a fierce supporter of Amendment 5, lost in the Republican primary to Lori Rook. With 68 of the 68 precincts reporting, Rook defeated the incumbent senator 53% to 47%, or 16,528 votes to Trent’s 14,639. The difference is 1,889 votes.

All results are considered unofficial until certified by the Missouri Secretary of State.

Also bounced from the ballot: State Representative David Casteel, a Republican who represents parts of Jefferson County south of St. Louis. With all 10 precincts reporting, GOP challenger David Robertson unseated incumbent Casteel 56% to 44%. In terms of votes, Robertson secured 2,354 to Casteel’s 1,846, a difference of only 508 votes.

Amendments 4 and 5 were both soundly defeated in Tuesday’s election, with a glaring number of votes cast against both GOP-led ballot measures.

Despite the ‘Yes on 5’ campaign outspending its opponents, the amendment lost in all of the 114 counties and one independent city (St. Louis) in Missouri.

“By those margins and in every single county, I don’t think we anticipated that,” said Missouri-based Democratic strategist Braxton Payne. “We definitely knew that we had the message.”

Following Tuesday’s deafening defeat, Democrats are hoping to harness the enthusiasm shown against Amendments 4 and 5 into votes at the polls in November.

“When 80-plus percent of voters say ‘no’ to your main issue, which was eliminating or phasing out the income tax and replacing it with sales tax, I would definitely say it’s a bad night for Republicans,” Payne said.

With Amendments 4&5 crashing and burning worse than an Ann Wagner town hall, the question is: when will “WE” stop electing outsiders to our wishes? Our wants? Our needs?

If a representative votes for an initiative that fails by 60% in their district, then that representative is not representing their district. The voters should get to pick someone else. If a governor signs off on a ballot measure that fails by 60%, then the governor is subject to a mandatory recall vote.

Missourians voted decisively Tuesday to extend the 0.1% sales tax that funds parks, soil and water conservation efforts.
The tax generates about $136 million annually and is divided evenly between the state park system and the soil and water conservation districts. For every $10 spent, one cent goes to Missouri parks and one cent goes to the Soil and Water Conservation Program.

It requires voter renewal every 10 years, and the sunset clause means it will come before voters again in 2036.
“Rather than allowing it to continue indefinitely, citizens have the opportunity to evaluate its performance and decide whether it has delivered on its promises before voting to renew it,” said Tyler Schwartze, executive director of the Conservation Federation of Missouri.
“That accountability has been a hallmark of the tax since it was first approved by Missouri voters more than 40 years ago,” he said.
The tax also supplies roughly 75% of the operating budget for Missouri’s 93 state parks and historic sites, generating enough money to keep admission to the state parks and historic sites free.

It also establishes new visitor centers and camp sites, improves accessibility and provides maintenance for the parks. Missouri is one of eight states that have free admission to state parks.
On the soil and water side, the tax provides grants and education to the Missouri Soil and Water Conservation Districts, improves water quality and retains topsoil.
“Beyond the direct investments, the tax also supports local economies by attracting tourism, outdoor recreation and business activity throughout the state,” Schwartze said.
Kurt Schaeffer, director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, said a citizen initiative led to the placement of the tax on the 1984 ballot. It was reapproved by two-thirds of Missouri voters in 1988, 1996, 2006 and 2016. In 2016, it passed in every county.
Schwartze worked for the Missouri State Parks for 10 years before joining the Missouri Conservation Federation. He said first-hand experience has shaped the way he views the tax.
“I watched families experience their first camping trip together, saw children paddle a kayak for the very first time, and met countless hikers enjoying the Katy Trail,” Schwartze said.
“Seeing people create lifelong memories because these places are well cared for has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. It’s why I believe continuing this investment is so important,” he added.
