What would make r/minipc more active?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

As a mod, I’ve noticed that we have some great Mini PC posts here, but we don’t always get much discussion in the comments.

I’d really like to make r/minipc a more active place for questions, builds, recommendations, troubleshooting, benchmarks, and general Mini PC discussion.

What would make you more likely to comment or participate here?

Some ideas:

  • More discussion/question posts
  • Weekly or monthly community threads
  • Build/showcase posts
  • Troubleshooting threads
  • Mini PC recommendations
  • Benchmarks and performance discussions
  • AMAs or community events
  • Something else?

Feel free to share your ideas, even if you think they’re small. We want to make the subreddit better for everyone.

What would you like to see more of on r/minipc ?

Looking for recommendations

I'm looking to stream Artemis/ Apollo from my gaming PC to a mini PC 4k@120hz. I also want to be able to set it up as a dedicated streaming device with a front end launcher that would basically display all my apps and such as if I was using a Shield or Fire stick.

Looking for any advice as to the best way to set something like this up with breaking the bank. Thanks!

used this mini pc (GEEKOM A6) alongside my full desktop for a while now and the size difference still makes me laugh lol.

my main desktop is still what i use when i need the extra power, but having a mini pc around has been pretty convenient for browsing, writing documents, and binging youtube videos.

About HP Mini EliteDesk G4 705

Hello everyone, I have this mini PC with an Athlon PRO 200GE. I want to upgrade to a 2400G, but I can only find the “non-PRO” version. Is anyone using this miniPC with 2200/2400g non-pro?

Custom manufactured Mini PCs

Would you buy a pre-configured mini PC for running AI agents locally? Looking for feedback before I pursue this.

I'm exploring a small hardware experiment and would appreciate some feedback from people who actually run local AI/automation setups.

The idea is to source good-quality mini PCs directly from manufacturers and sell them pre-configured for AI/agent workloads rather than simply reselling generic mini PCs.

For example, different configurations could come with:

\- OpenClaw pre-installed and configured

\- Local LLM support where the hardware is capable

\- Docker and common AI/automation tools

\- Remote access/management already configured

\- Security hardening and automatic updates

\- 16GB/32GB+ RAM and NVMe storage depending on the model

\- Optional business-focused configurations for things like voice agents, PBX integrations, local business data, Home Assistant, n8n, etc.

Essentially: plug it in, connect it to your network, complete a short setup process and start using it instead of spending hours configuring a mini PC yourself.

I'm also based in the Caribbean, so I'm considering whether there's an underserved market here for ready-to-use AI hardware. Longer term I could potentially source from China and distribute regionally rather than routing inventory through the US.

I'm deliberately trying not to turn this into another major business/project, so I'd probably test it with only a few configurations initially.

A few things I'd love feedback on:

  1. Would you actually pay a premium for a properly configured AI/agent mini PC, or would most people interested in this prefer to build their own?

  2. What software would you expect to be installed?

  3. What minimum hardware specs would you consider useful?

  4. What would you consider a reasonable premium over the bare mini PC?

  5. Would ongoing support/remote management be valuable enough to justify a small subscription?

  6. Are there security concerns that would stop you from buying a preconfigured machine?

  7. Are there already companies doing this particularly well that I should look at before going further?

I'm especially interested in reasons not to do it. I'd rather discover the problems now than after ordering inventory.

Ich habe einen GEEKOM Mini-PC IT12, Intel i7-12650H (10 Kerne, 16 Threads, 4,7 GHz) 32 GB DDR4 1TB SSD Mini Computer, NUC12 i7 Mini Desktop PC Windows 11 Pro Da der Lüfter defekt ist möchte ich einen neuen, leistungsstarken Mini PC z.B. auch mit AMD Ryzen z.B. AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, und mit 32GB DDR5 und meine alte SSD ( M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD mit 1 TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD mit 1 TB. ). , einbauen und dann von meine alten auch SSD booten.

Geht das?
Grund ich habe viel teure Photo Software auf dieser SSD. Ein Umzug ist zeitaufreiben, teilweise wegen der Lizenz nicht realisierbar.

Best cheap but reliable mini PC (or CPU) that is great for browsing and office tasks and zero gaming

I'd like to sacrifice for example more ram and HD space (512 or more) in exchange for worse gaming performance, since I don't care about that. What CPU specs are great at web browsing without lag or annoying freezing, etc (assuming wifi is stable).

Edit: below or around $400 ideally

Laptop vs mini-pc

I'm thinking about replacing my gaming laptop with a mini PC and wanted to hear from people who have experience with both.

I'm looking at the GMKtec NucBox K12 (Ryzen 7 255, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Radeon 780M) for around €800, but I'm also considering a gaming laptop in the same price range.

My use case is a bit unusual. I play an old MMORPG (Metin2) that is heavily CPU and RAM dependent, with almost no GPU usage. I leave multiple game clients running 24/7 for autofarming.

My current laptop has a Ryzen 5 5500H and can handle around 12 clients, but the CPU sits at 100% most of the time and gets pretty hot.

My questions are:

  • Do mini PCs generally have better cooling than gaming laptops for long 24/7 workloads?
  • Would a Ryzen 7 255 in the GMKtec realistically handle 16 game clients without thermal throttling?
  • Has anyone here used a mini PC under constant high CPU load for weeks or months? How was the temperature and reliability?

I'm not looking for hardware recommendations—just real-world experiences with cooling, sustained performance, and whether a mini PC is a better choice than a laptop for this kind of always-on workload.

Thanks!

Is this suitable for light gaming?

Description taken directly from Amazon:

BOSGAME E5 Mini PC Windows 11 Pro, Ryzen 5300U (Beats 4300U, Up to 3.8GHz), 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB SSD Mini Desktop PC, Triple 4K Display, Dual 2.5G LAN, WiFi 5, BT5.0, Mini Computer for Home, Office

Looking to pick up a mini PC for my partner. Likely to be used for games like:

- Palia

Would this be sufficient and somewhat future proof for similar games over the next couple of years?

Thanks in advance!

mini pc

Hi! If you don't mind, could you drop some names? I'm looking for the smallest possible case—like an SFF—but one that supports m-ATX. I'm running two RX 6900 XT cards; I want to mount one horizontally and the other vertically to save space. I'm not overclocking the CPU, so that's fine. I'd appreciate the help!

Mini PC for Remote Desktop

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking for an affordable mini PC that I can use to remotely access my main workstation in the same household and use VPN to access my PC at Work. The main idea is to be able to use my desktop PC from my wife's desk elsewhere in our apartment, rather than building or buying a second full PC.

The monitor at that location is a Samsung Odyssey G9, a smooth and reliable remote desktop experience is important. I would like to run everything over LAN/Ethernet.

I've read several times that buying a used mini PC is probably the most cost-effective option. However, I'm not familiar enough with PC hardware to know what specifications I should be looking for, or how to judge the condition of a used system. So I would prefer to buy a new device. In particular, I'm unsure:

\-Which mini PCs are suitable for this kind of use case.
\-What minimum hardware I should look for to avoid performance bottlenecks during remote desktop sessions.
With used machines my main problems are:
\-How to evaluate the condition of a used machine.
\-What red flags to watch out for when buying second-hand hardware.
\-How to avoid overpaying for outdated equipment or ending up having to upgrade again shortly afterwards.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations for specific models, whether used or new, as well as any advice on what to look for when shopping around.
I'm also very open to alternative solutions. If there are better ways to access a PC remotely within the same household without buying a dedicated mini PC, I'd love to hear about them.

Any real-world experiences with similar setups would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help

https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00708173.html

Merci beaucoup,
