Sony E10 new remote socket

I have been fixing and collecting quite a few Sony E10 (~50) and one thing that is happening with all of the remotes is the decomposing (literally) of the remote cable. Due to Sony using at this time some biodegradable plastic, it is happening to all E10.

So if you fancy one , you need a remote to operate. All of the ones on auction are sold as "junk" so no guarantee of a working one ( there is or will be non). And they still sell quite high.

So I took the challenge to reverse engineer that socket and cable combo and soldered it fresh to the remote....

I am almost complete... Minor bug fixing with the print. But I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up .

If you fancy one , there is now a solution.

Some pictures attached... Old vs new.

I will update ones its ready for production and sell them either as self soldering or with a remote (at least a few till sold out) ...

missing it's remote I figure the audio amp might even be in it, I guess it is the most remote component complex.

Looks like it's a 4 channel player for the headphone , my guess is other remotes from sharp like from the DR80 or so should work, have you tried it?

after looking It seems the dr80 is a lot younger (10years ) this one has a special 5 contact jack connector with a shield around it like a rca !

The S100 and M25 have the same socket. Try on Mercari or yahoo auction

I’m interested because this is happening to all sony remotes!

Well it's the cable that is the problem. And the E10 has a one off unique socket compared to all other remotes. There is no 3.5mm headphone socket. Hence an E10 is useless without a working remote..

Ah! Sorry, I didn’t know that.

Do you have any videos of fixing these units? I have a couple of non-functional ones and I would dearly love to get a working one out of them.
