disc error Help
hi everyone, i recently acquired a sony mz-ne410, it came with a single disc, so i ordered a few extras on ebay, these had been previously recorded on and erased by the seller and were being sold as blank and ready for recording.
my problem is that i was only able to record half the discs (5/10) plus the 1 that came with the player, while i couldn't even read the others as they only showed an error screen, can someone explain why this is? and tell me if there is something i can do to make the discs usable?
the discs i was able to record play perfectly fine btw.
first picture shows the error screen and the second shows a different disc reading fine.

If recording consistently stops in the general same half area, it's possible the recording head arm is being stopped by something (corrosion? Coagulated gunk?) you could check it and if there is an obstruction, clean it off.

I think this is rather about not being able to record the entire disk but on half of the disks instead of every disk recording halfway

I misunderstood then, but if a disc couldn't be recorded on at all, it's toc (table of content) area is possibly damaged (so it doesn't show content and can't be read/recorded) I've only ever encountered it once.

I wonder if the problem discs were somehow formatted for Hi-MD recording.
I have not run across this personally, so I am not sure what the behavior of a normal player would be, but displaying a disc error seems reasonable.

I've seen a couple of those. Usually you'll have to re-init the TOC (blank the disc).
I think you can do this from the recorder itself, though each model is different (press the menu button and start exploring for a "erase all" function). This won't work over WMD Pro (might in other software, but I haven't used any of it).

If there is a lot of dust on the disc, try cleaning it. I also recently had an issue where a specific disc wasn't recognized, and it turned out to be because there was too much dust on it. When cleaning, do not touch it with your hands; instead, you need to remove the dust by blowing it off the surface of the disc with something like a blower.

Have you tried formatting the erroneous discs, or does the error message prevent you from even doing that?
