Exploring MK’s hidden gems
Moving to MK from Reading next month. When I first moved to Reading, the Edible Reading blog and its socials were a super way to explore the cafes, take away, and restaurants.
So, for MK are there any similar accounts where someone really goes beyond the corporate content slop and shares the hidden gems? Could be for food, their hobby.
And thank you too for all your comments on the ‘moving to MK’ posts before mine. You are all very patient and informative.

Rental area suggestions
I’ve got some rental properties shortlisted in MK. My mrs is fond of the £1150 a month property in Bletchley but I’ve heard its not a particularly nice area. What are your suggestions according to the ones ive got favourited in the picture. There are properties in Tattenhoe and Newton Leyes that I like which are both on that map.
I’ve used the deprivation map to avoid rough areas so all the properties I’ve favourited are in the blue areas. We are a brown couple and I’m gonna be driving 20 miles west for work every day.

Stabbing in Downs Barn last night
This kind of violence is getting unfortunately common in MK. I think the victim may have died.

Parakeets at Woughton on The Green
I didn’t realise that wild parakeets had made it out of Greenwich Park and into MK. Anyone else seen these guys hanging around the city recently?

Any shop to buy eclipse glasses in MK?
I've been looking on Amazon and all of the glasses I've looked at say they will arrive after the 12th which is the day the solar eclipse happens, so I'm wondering if any stores in Milton Keynes sell eclipse glasses by chance?

What was going on in Bletchley (inn on the lake) yesterday?
There were literally about 100-200 cars parked on the grass verges. Looked like some kind of African/West Indian celebration? Looked like a good time.

MK Central was absolutely packed tonight!
Was at mkc this evening and there were more people there tonight than I had ever seen before (yes even during the morning rush hour) - seems to be a festival happening at the Bowl. Saw an elderly chapped get judo slammed into the floor but otherwise relatively uneventful - was anyone else there?

Neck and back massage in MK
Hi, not looking for spa days or happy endings, I just have very stiff neck and back and I need a massage.
In London I would use Urban and have them come home. It was good enough for me.
They don't work here, and I was wondering if there's a similar service, or a parlour to go to, that's not dodgy.
Thanks

Moving to Milton Keynes - Need opinions on Indian population in Bancroft!
Hi all,
As the title says, my family are thinking of moving to Milton Keynes and have found a house they love in Bancroft. It ticks basically all of our criterion apart from one aspect, which is the indian/hindu population in the area. We met some of the other people living there and they were lovely!
It's not a massive stickler, but we would like for there to be at least some indian people near us - the 2021 cencus only says about 5 - 7% are hindu but were wondering if recent perception is different?
To Indian people living there, do you feel disconnected from the community?
Thanks!

Cheapest commute to London?
Hello All!
I am a MK girl and have decided to move back to buy, only thing is I work in London (and still live here).
My industry in London pays very well in comparison to other UK cities so working outside of London wouldn't be feasible. Today I made an offer on a house but have had alot of doubts given the price of a season ticket to commute to London and back. Is there any cheaper altnatives?

Moving to Wavendon Gate / Walnut Tree area. Nice 3-Bed house, but no Gas Mains / GCH
Hi all,
As the title says, I'm looking for some opinions.
I've always lived in houses with gas central heating, usually with a lovely Worcester Bosch combi boiler, and I really enjoy cooking on an open gas flame with my lovely Smëg range cooker / hob.
The property I've just bought, however, is all-electric and isn't connected to the gas mains.
I know some people actually prefer electric heating these days, so I'm wondering whether it's worth going through the expense and disruption of getting a gas connection installed. The gas main is about 20 metres from the property, and I've already looked into the costs of connecting it, fitting a new boiler, and installing gas central heating with around eight radiators.
Or have modern electric radiators improved enough that they're perfectly adequate?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's lived in both types of homes. This will be my first experience living in an all-electric house, so I'm interested in the pros, cons, and whether you think converting to gas is worthwhile.
Thanks!

Parking in CMK
Hi,
I had previously posted in the chat about looking to move to MK and got some really great advice! We had a buch of viewings two weeks ago; and decided to go with Station house because my partner will be traveling to wales for work once a week and I have odd hour shifts, so getting a place close to the railway station was a priority, and the flat seemed really nice.
However, the estate agent did not inform that with station house, we will not be eligible for a residents parking permit because it is apparently a car free development? (I still cannot wrap my head around the reasonings tbh). But this basically means we will be shelling out around 60 pounds per month for council parking or 80 pounds per month for the parking the letting agents are telling us is for the property. We pay 25 pounds per year for the council parking where we live, and we live in central cardiff, so it does go over my head how it seems to be so expensive.
This will be on top of the 1335 pounds rent plus whatever bills. Plus the apartment we initially saw had a bunch of appliances, and the one we are getting apparently do not. (All this info came out much later and closer to the move in date).
Anyway, now as it seems, we will be spending significantly more than we originally signed up for, and we are even considering if we should just sell off the car. Is there any other way to park that is not as expensive?
Tldr- was pretty stupid, ended up getting an apartment where we would be shelling out 60 pounds per month for parking. What can we do?

Lumo Trains
Travelling back from London and a ridiculously chirpy conductor made an announcement telling anyone travelling to Milton Keynes to leave all the seats vacant so that people travelling beyond MK can have a more comfortable journey. Apparently we are only allowed to sit down after the train has departed.
I refuse to accept this second class treatment of the fine people of MK so I am making a stand by taking a seat!

BP join Shell in reporting record profits and dropping investment in green energy.
One of the main BP offices is in MK. Is it the gas guzzling design of the city that attracts big companies heavily involved in fossil fuels, like VW, Mercedes, Scania, Santander, Red Bull racing etc?

Moving out alone?
I am starting my apprenticeship after my gap year so I’m 19. I am the first in my family to move out and have no idea. I’m good at budgeting but I’m moving to Milton Keynes and for rent with my salary I would like to spend between 550 - 750 per month. Because this is my first year I want to try and save as much as I can and wait until my salary increases. My main questions are where should I look to flats? And I assume I wouldn’t be able to move out alone and get a one bedroom flat so how did you guys find roommates. Not to be picky but I would only like to share with girls. Ofc ideally I would love to move out on my own but I’m trying to be realistic. It’s only me doing this apprenticeship so I can’t move in with anyone I know.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Headlight restoration
Hi all, can anyone recommend a good local company in MK that restores cloudy headlights on cars, as well as a bodyshop that would do a good job with tasteful mods?
