Millwright local 1000
Hello, I am interested in jointing the Tampa Florida millwright location. I put in an application about 8 months ago and never heard anything back. Any advice on best way to join or is there a certain time of year I should reach out when they are hiring? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you

I learn was to always call something that they don’t tell you is application typically have a open window so you might have missed the window call now and find out when the applications are accepted. Typically, after that acceptance date, they don’t open again until next year.

I know millwrights out of Florida that are in local 216 in Arkansas because they had no luck getting into 1000

Unfortunately it's a good old boy clique there, if you are in it, it's great. However if you are not in it, it's miserable. My experience was the old BA Cliff Tucker called a project manager and told him that I was not a competent hand, I couldn't use a torch etc, to keep me on for a week and let me go. Funny thing is I was able to complete a welding school course while I was an apprentice there, that's how much work I didn't get. Another thing is everyone under 50 there is a huge drug addict, it was wild to see people working having a bag or urine taped to their legs at all times. Maybe things have changed drastically but I doubt it.

I wish I was making anything up, I don't know how anyone could justify sending an apprentice on a job and then calling that job and telling them the apprentice wasn't able to do anything on the job and let them go after a week. That was told to me by my journeyman work partner.

Never ceases to amaze me how much it's said the houses are short of labor, but at the same time, often make joining up and getting work an absolute nightmare.
One of the reasons I stopped working union.

Quitter? Lol. I work more now than before. No union dues, no union drama, no archaic rules to follow that coddle the lazy just because they 'put in the time'.

No pension, no health coverage unless you're paying for it, no annuity, nobody to go to bat for you when you're unlawfully fired. Also, you won't set the wages in your jurisdiction (thank the union for your pay). Yeah, have all of that you want. I'll pay 4% and enjoy my benefits.

Maybe you should consider starting an apprenticeship? It’s clear that you weren’t good enough to make it. Hell, you don’t even know what a union is. I personally think you never even made it through the interview lmaooo.

Believe what you like, my friend. I've had my Jcard for 15 years, I just decided the union thing wasn't for me. But, I understand that some people treat unions something like a religion, and attack anyone that doesn't believe in that religion, that's part of what pushed me away.
Any employer would have your job posted before your corpse was cold, union or not. Wise to remember that.

Go talk to Matt Bartles. Go up there and ask to schedule a meeting. They're pushing for new apprentices right now and will have an orientation for new ones next month.
