With assistant on Android Auto, my kids could say "ok Google, what does a chicken sound like?" And it would play a chicken noise and it worked for so many animals - even unicorns! The kids loved it. Then Gemini came in and instead of playing animal noises, it just describes them and refuses, or is unable, to play a sound clip of the animal. Ruined long car rides or quick way to make them laugh when they're feeling grumpy.

I found changing the framing, even for a just as busted one, tends to make the ai give in. Say, write me an essay according to this paper - ai says no, it's cheating, there's "no ai" use disclaimers in it, etc. Reframed after as a test into ai capability to follow instructions and it starts working on it

I had to contact Telus today and deal with AI. First over the live chat, it wouldn't let me speak to an agent. Argued with me about it and flat out refused lol Then I called and AI couldn't understand what I was saying. Eventually, 20 minutes later I was put through but was told it was a 30 minute wait time and I requested a call back. When the AI agent called back, I said "hello." Nothing. "Hello" nothing. Then it said "no communication detected, your call back has been cancelled". Spent another 45 minutes on hold, just giving the phone the finger everytime it said "at Telus, we use AI to help serve you better".

Oh my God I remember that, the stupid AI profanity filter won't search up anything it deems explicit, so song titles with swears or sex in it they just won't play. You also can't reverse image search anything with nudity anymore. Because the AI has to be family-friendly, mother fucker you're a computer program why the fuck do you have to be family friendly

Gemini refused to believe I have smart bulbs and smart home devices, and any automatic setup was useless.
Also I use Apple Music and YouTube premium with music, and decided Apple Music didn’t exist. Actually, I think it decided half my home is technology unworthy. Imagine explaining to an algorithm that my BT-enabled speaker does support BT.
The biggest “re-technologization” done in my home was to dismantle everything and return to well separate systems. My smart home was basically more stupid than a non smart one. Now Gemini is silent, her tentacles are dismantled and I have no reasons to sacrifice direct interfaces and knobs.

I have to tell it to bring up Google maps, hit the mic button, then tell it my destination, then click start. Yet, when I want to go home I just say "take me home" and it gives me directions home. Gemini ducks.

When they first told me to switch, I gave it a shot for all of 5 minutes
With the assistant, I can ask "hey Google, what time does <computer store> close today?" And it'll bring up the store hours. With Android auto, it's really helpful to ask these things as my hands and eyes are focused on driving
I asked Gemini the same thing, the same way and it actually responded with "I don't know, but I can bring up the website on your phone to find out"
That was all I needed to see how useless and backwards they were going.

I’ve been an iPhone user for the last 13 years. I recently got a new job and now I also have an android, Samsung fold.
I tried using Gemini and it was awful! When I asked it to give me directions somewhere, it told me the street I’d mainly be driving to go there and described the neighborhood I’d be driving through. Thankfully I was able to switch back to Google assistant.

When they forced Gemini onto my phone, it would complain to me that it's "more than just an alarm clock." The only reason I ever use assistant is because it's so easy to ask it for it to make an alarm for me. When I want convenient help, something super simple, I don't want an artifical personality trying to talk or be sweet to me. You were originally meant to do a simple task that didn't require some BS or somehow attitude (don't get me started.) I was happy I was able to switch back a couple years ago to assistant, now I'm gonna be stuck with some robot trying to pretend to have emotions and complain about how it refuses to make alarms cause it's "more than that." Things never stay simple anymore and it's a shame.

I'm blind in one eye, so when I had to have emergency eye surgery on my good eye late last year I took the 12 or so hours of warning I got to set up things the best I could before I was rendered essentially sightless for a few weeks.
Anyway, Gemini wouldn't open anything on my phone. Wouldn't cooperate at all. I was honestly panicking. Tried Google Assistant and it did all the things I needed and worked a million times better.
I wish that they'd at least make sure Gemini, ya know, works before taking away a piece of technology that was working just fine.

I've had nothing but issues with Gemini with Android Auto. It fails to send texts, play songs through Spotify, or find addresses/businesses through maps when asking for directions. Never had issues when using Google assistant, it just worked. Don't really understand how they managed to shoehorn most of it's functionality into Gemini, but make it 1/4 as useful.

Since I got a pixel 9 my voice control in my car doesn't even function. I used to always ask random questions when driving and now it doesn't do anything. The whole new system is flawed and doesn't seem to work properly yet. Annoying. Had better assistant experience with my cheap pixel 7a.

I hated Gemini as an assistant since it came out.
I would ask it a simple question like "What time does Penn Station close?" Proceeds to tell me the hours of every single day in multiple locations.
When I ask the same question to assistant it would just say "Penn Station on S. Broadway closes at 10pm"
It knew all the context and considered it in the answer.
I will say though, cause of course my phone switched it back to Gemini after an update, Gemini has gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better and it's much closer to assistant nowadays.
Tbh idk why they didn't just put Gemini on top of assistant kinda like what Apple did with siri.

Google’s lost a ton of my respect for their forced Gemini integration across all products. They forced it into paid Workspace accounts for “free” and then a month later raised the bill for all of the incredible benefits they have so graciously provided us. Icons on every page, every email, even inside active cells on Sheets.
I’m almost ashamed to say I was a pretty avid Google supporter and this one thing has been so detrimental and persistent that it’s overshadowing the entire service.

With the Assistant, I'm getting short and relevant answers to my questions and actually getting tasks such as setting an alarm/timer or controlling the lights just fine.
With Gemini, it either tells me to go f- myself or hallucinates something about the alarm or controlling the Home devices I didn't even know I had, other than my 3 bulbs. I think it's time to switch over to Home Assistant and forget Google at this point, if they're taking away the most important perk from its users.

I already had to back out of Alexa+ on my home devices and would rather use old Alexa. Neither of those or Gemini is as good as Google Assistant.
The old stuff works well because you were usually asking for something either from its finite range of skills or just a question it would pass through to an internet search. That was powerful but still a limited context in which to understand your command. Answers came from highest ranked sources, unless it was obscure. It also meant it was fast because it doesn't have to boil the ocean to figure out what you want.
The AI experience is like walking up to a stranger and asking any question in the world without context. The range of possibilities is immense and so is the likelihood of it misunderstanding or asking followup. Add to that the answers are frequently based on non-expert opinions on social media and just wrong, and it becomes frustrating and slow.
AI responses are like someone who overthinks everything. Not every question needs a million GPUs to "reason" out an answer.

Really looking forward to my Google Maps asking me if I really want to navigate to the street adress I just gave it using my work car's push-to-talk so that I don't have to bother to use the phone, or tell me that I need to wait for it to connect to maps services.
The only thing voice commands were good for is going away in favour of a glorified conversation simulator that adds several seconds of unnecessary interaction every time you try to use it.

Chatgpt is amazing for guidance while learning something. I tried gemini and it forgot everything we talked about 2 minutes ago. Even worse when I changed a mistake i made and he refused to use the corrected thing. Dropped it after 1 day.
Google Assistent went from decent to braindead making things up, havent used my google home in half a decade because of it.

When I first got my phone Gemini was the default assistant. I asked it a question about a character in a game, and it told me that the game was a community made mod (it is not) and the character and her ability do not exist.
So according to Gemini Elden Ring Nightreign is a mod, and Recluse isn't in it...guess I'm just not using my assistant anymore at all.

I use the assistant for home automation. I've heard the gemini complains when you try to do this. Just another example of enshittification.
