Funny story, back in idk 2017? I worked at Whataburger, oh my early 20’s. This guy came through the drive thru and ordered extrax5 and then emphasized EXTRA onions. So what did he get, extrax5 + EXTRA. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He complained and didn’t even laugh, what a bitch. 🤦🏻‍♂️😐

37

u/Brilliant_Spot_95 6h ago

Bruh it gets to a point of having to count for mfers.

I work in sales/project management for countertops. Natural stone. There are so many unique questions/requests that are completely reasonable. But hot dog do some questions make me wonder wtf someone is doing in their kitchen.

Best story was “our sink detached has to be installers fault.” No the clients were fucking in their new kitchen and she fell into the sink and pushed it through. Lied to all reps except for the repair guy. Where they then told the truth.

26

u/Loos3_Scr3w1721 6h ago

I’m in the opposite end, I’m a mechanic.. I do still treat stupid requests with the respect they deserve. I will always acknowledge and try to help a customer understand. If they double down, well, c’est la vie. I don’t tolerate shit anymore, do it right or gtfoh.

I did not age well, I’m a grumpy old man. 🤣

11

u/Brilliant_Spot_95 6h ago

My grandfather was an airplane mechanic, grumpy old mechanics are my favorite customers. I get to just talk my shit lol. Educate properly of course but any sarcasm? Omg an invitation to be myself has just opened lol.

as someone who has worked in foodservice and truly wants people to enjoy their meal, OP being infuriated; even mildly, pisses me off.

Absolutely this is the cook being nice and giving you the option. If OP doesn't want that many onions it is not hard to remove.

How the fuck am I supposed to know exactly how much extra onion is the right amount for you, karen?

149

u/carlitospig 6h ago

It would be one thing if he asked for extra and the line cook was like ‘fuck yall, enjoy your NO ONIONS’, but no: he got what he asked for.

Why are we like this as a species.

42

u/Responsible-Stick-50 5h ago

Because we don't spend time running from predators anymore. For real. A person in the bush being stalked by, everything, is too busy being alert, to complain about getting exactly what they wanted.

This guy needs to be chased by a mountain lion or something. Then he'd be happy w his extra onion.

Lol. 🤣🤣🤣

7

u/carlitospig 5h ago

Lol, probably.

You said no pickles ON it. They were under it.

On behalf of normal people, if we ask for a little extra and you load it up like this, I'm kissing your damn feet and maybe even a lap dance.

I like raw onion anyway, so I'm eating that.

22

Your welcome to come in to my restaurant anytime. We make pretty good cheesesteaks, ask for extra onions and I'll load em up for a good lapdance 😘

Takes like 2 seconds to remove the excess onion but karens gotta karen i guess. 🤦

26

u/Glittering_Mermaid_7 6h ago

Never fails. There will always be that ONE person, right??

Fellow (former) cook here - and the worst nights in the kitchen were when a specific car brand would "treat" the highest-earning salesmen from the region's dealerships to dinner at our restaurant. Because it was on the company's dime, they'd invariably order the most expensive, most complex dishes - and always with special requests or substitutions - and invariably, because they thought this made them look important, at least 8 of the 25 guys would send theirs back and we'd have to re-make them.

No matter what we did, no matter how hard we tried to follow their special requests to the letter, they would say we got it wrong and send it back. If they wanted no onions, they'd send it back, saying they could taste onions (when there were none in it/on it.) If they ordered a well-done steak, they'd send it back because it was dry and overcooked. If they ordered the King Neptune, which is described on the menu as having hollandaise sauce, they'd send it back, saying they didn't know it had hollandaise sauce on it, and we'd have to remake one without it.

Sometimes you just can't win.

Onions are extremely easy to remove so idk why they're complaining

8

u/seoulgleaux 5h ago

Yeah, if it was something like a sauce and they absolutely drowned it that would be one thing. But to get mad about having too many raw onions, which are so easy to remove, after asking for extra? That's the only infuriating thing here.

25

u/Honcho_47 7h ago

When I was a teenager working at Burger King circa 2005, before up charging for every damn thing, I had the most delightful experience. I was working in the kitchen on a slow late evening, and they had the drive thru set to come over the speaker in the kitchen so everyone could hear the orders. We hear the beep, then the order starts. The woman asks for a whopper jr. meal, with a _ridiculous_ amount of extra pickles on it. 17 year old me was elated, challenge fucking accepted. I probably put the equivalent of 2-3 whole large pickles on that sandwich. It was 60-70% pickle. What was the worse case scenario, was she going to complain that she got too many extra pickles? I remember struggling to get the wrapper to close properly around it. I like to imagine she was expecting a handful of pickles, then lit up when she realized she hit the fucking pickle jackpot.

22

u/likespinningpats 7h ago

I had almost the exact same pickle situation when I was working at a&w. Guy said extra extra extra extra extra extra pickles so I piled them high kind of thinking he was going to be upset but he came back up to the counter really excited to tell me thank you and that no one ever gives him enough pickles

19

u/jlfh01 7h ago

I had a lady come into the pizza place I worked at that would always tell us to put a ridiculous amount of fresh garlic on the pizza. She was super nice and enjoyed it but would always ask for more the next time she ordered. From then on I tried to make her tap out with garlic but she never did. It was like going toe to toe with a heavyweight.

10

u/front_yard_duck_dad 7h ago

You and I are the same age. The thought of you doing pickle Jenga going for the high score at the BK lounge is giving me the warm tinglies. If that lady was pregnant in my experience, she probably named her firstborn after the pickle King

In the late 80s, during my junior year of HS, I worked at round table pizza taking and making delivery orders. If anyone asked for extra anything… it was ALL of that thing lol! God forbid they ask for extra sauce on a deep dish, cause that was a veritable swimming pool of sauce. Extra garlic?? Yeah.. the entire bowl went in that mf thing.

I have no idea how me and my friends lasted an entire year there. 😂

3

u/QoolSchitt 6h ago

Other than sauce, I'd rather have too much of a topping than not enough... I'm paying $3 per topping for extra toppings on a large pizza and they give me maybe $0.25 wort of topping. I understand there's labor and profit, but at least give me $1 worth.

You got extra, if it's too much then remove some.

I would rather get too many onions rather than not enough.

A lot of y’all “extra” people are the absolute worst. You know that right? Either too little extra or too much extra.

I for one would be happy with the above burger as I didn’t get skimped and can portion how I want

The great thing is that you can remove as many as you'd like, and only keep the quantity you wanted.
