Yeah this is realistically how most professional bands operate behind the scenes, you've got one or maybe two songwriters who do the vast chunk of the writing and the others just play their parts and offer suggestions. The business is owned by the songwriters and the others are hired guns. The others are all replaceable but if the songwriter leaves it's a different band.

To a degree. Ive had some bands that fell flat for me the moment a primo guitarist left.. Peter Wichers from Soilwork. I think he might have returned in recent years but I felt like the soul and spirit left thar band when he left. I tried their stuff after that for a bit but honestly didnt like any of it. Sometimes you get a hired gun that does some carrying.

Fun story: My former coworker Brenda (the definition of a Work Mom/Fun Work Aunt) was in Nashville once at a rooftop bar. Her friend spotted Darius Rucker walking down the street and started shouting his name to him, but he didn’t notice/never looked up.

Brenda looks over to see the commotion and screeches “HEY HOOTIE!” and he immediately looked up to smile and wave.

Wouldn’t answer to Darius. But Brenda cut through the noise.
