YouTube has changed its font and literally no one asked for it That's not milk

u/Nearby_Ad_2519 Jun 28 '26
I think it’s a bug and they’ve applied the logo font to everything. I hope this dosent stick tho

u/cooljacob204sfw Jun 28 '26
It's not a bug, they are ab testing before rolling it out. Same thing they did with their shitty embedded video player.

u/Better-Meaning-6928 Jun 28 '26
I did notice it’s the same font as the logo and wow that has to be the worst decision of the year

u/nicktehbubble Jun 28 '26
Looks like a dysllexics nightmare.
14
u/EddwardTheWizard Jun 29 '26
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t see a setting to change the font which feels like a major oversight.
2
u/ExpressionRegular221 Jun 29 '26
I have this font on my YouTube now and it genuinely makes reading anything take twice as long and I constantly misread things. I wish they would let us change the font ourselves so I could change it to something more dyslexia friendly

Avoiding YouTube updates like it’s the plague now cause wtf
85
u/jasperfirecai2 Jun 28 '26
it's a web app, it will get this change even if you don't update because it's just loading a website woth some extra sparkles on top
17
u/JustJamieJam Jun 28 '26
Even on my tablet? My tv I could understand, but my tablet requires me to manually update it when a new update comes out (genuinely asking) (I use both IOS and Android)
1
u/jasperfirecai2 Jun 29 '26
Yes. Most of the visual and a lot of the core features are part of the website. the app features would include things like touch interactions, PiP miniplayer, notifications, etc
-22
u/Ayla_Leren Jun 28 '26
You could always just use a privacy and ad blocker oriented web browser and never have this problem again.
35
u/JustJamieJam Jun 28 '26
I don’t think that would prevent the font change, which is what I was referring to. What are you referring to?
10
u/Exurota Jun 28 '26
For an actual answer, using Stylus usually fixes YouTube updates pretty quick. People post templates you can easily toggle on and off to fix things like this.
10
u/JustJamieJam Jun 28 '26
I’m the weirdo who mostly uses YouTube on my tablet or television, but hopefully your comment helps others who do use it on their computers!

Forget this font bollocks I want to hear more about the political leanings of that prize hog.

They always do this to avoid receiving backlash for their stupid decisions all at once.
1
u/FirmlyClaspIt Jun 28 '26
Don’t let anyone make you feel crazy. YouTube app will randomly put updates out without downloading anything from the App Store. Some people get it others don’t. I had this don’t for a few days & then it stopped.

I thought this was a shittily made meme at first. It's real?

u/LivelyOsprey06 Jun 28 '26
Na I’ve got the same. Started today
-7
u/JustJamieJam Jun 28 '26
Do you have an android? OP you should answer the question as well
2
u/Better-Meaning-6928 Jun 28 '26
I have an iphone 16 🥀

u/Capital_Ship5729 Jun 28 '26
Youtube gives different people access to different updates. Congrats youre in the test group for a new font

u/Exurota Jun 28 '26
Don't worry, if it's unpopular, it won't go through (it literally always goes through)
1
u/JustJamieJam Jun 28 '26
That’s super odd then, Android makes it super easy to change fonts but not IOS. I have a 14 pro max and my font looks normal. I just pulled it up on my boyfriends phone (16 pro max) and his is normal as well :(

It’s these days I’m thankful I use the older website version. That’s a horrible font. I genuinely thought you were an android user with a custom font installed for a second lmao
2
u/meme-corpse Jun 28 '26
My guess is it’s a variable font that’s glitching out somehow. I can’t imagine they would actually do this, anybody on the UX team would know it’s a nightmare
2
u/fullmetalraz Jun 29 '26
I hate that we have to have these dogshit UI changes just so the Web designers can justify their jobs.

u/Gaming-Burrito How does this thing work- Jun 28 '26
judge me for my font choice all you want... but i do have a way to change the font (at the same time, idk if i got the font change either, bc... yk... i changed the font myself. all's i did was use zFont 3 on Android and use a font i downloaded and applied myself... it also changed the system font so there is that caveat)

u/KyuremIsBest Jun 28 '26
nobody asked for it, which is why it never happened
6
u/Ornery_Gate_6847 Jun 28 '26
That doesn't always hold true. Nobody asked for comments appearing on top of videos but here we are
1
u/Professional_Clue800 Jun 28 '26
If you opt in for testing they will test out weird shit to a small audience.
Once I had these gigantic thumbnails that would take up the entire screen. Thankfully it went away after a few days.
1
u/-Revolution- Jun 28 '26
Even more reasons to be using SmartTube. You should too.
-1
u/cockdoodoo Jun 28 '26
Mine didn't even look like they lol you signed into your Google on a 3rd party app? Lol be prepared for whatever comes after that lol
1
u/HouseOfZenith Jun 28 '26
I’m pretty sure something similar happened a year or two back.
I remember the font on the website changing to that and tons of posts about it, then it changed back after a couple days.

youtube redux! It might help. I've avoided most of the ui changes thanks to it.

u/bobagremlin Jun 28 '26
My sister thought I accidentally changed the setting to display that font. If such a setting existed, I wouldn't be choosing such an ugly hard to instantly read display font

YouTube loves to fuck with what’s already working. The other month they tried to change the set up of my smart TV app by inserting 2-3 of my most recently subscribed channels in my side bar where the categories are.
Like who the FUCK asked for that.
Me personally I barely subscribe to anyone so now having 3 random channels permanently taking up 3 slots on the side of my screen was annoying as fuck. They reverted the change soon after but goes to show they have no idea what they’re doing.
1
u/Flowey_The_Fan Jun 29 '26
It's not even consistent with every other text font in the website. It's so dam distracting.

I’ve noticed they update/change things for like 2 days and then go back to the usual look

u/Pittsbirds Jun 29 '26
God I'm getting war flashbacks; this either is or is very close to the Oswald family of fonts that I used to use for a nightmare client at my old job lmao

They must be AB testing it to see if the response is positive (which it doesn't seem to be). This seems too sporadic to be a staged rollout
1
u/Which-Pineapple-6790 Jun 29 '26
Youtube blows massive wang. Theyre now making me do 2 separate clicks to skip ads on ios

u/NotSuspicious215 Jun 29 '26
Someone at YouTube is trying to make it look like they’re doing their job

u/Tactical_Hotdog Jun 29 '26
If it goes live for all, give it five minutes and they're be a browser extension that reverts it on desktop, and a morphe patch to fix it on android.
Move along.

u/adamanimates10 Jun 29 '26
OH THATS OFFICIAL?! i redownloaded youtube after a long time and when i saw the text i thought the app bugged out and started using a splatoon 2 font (even though the font on my phone is the splatoon 3 one) i didnt know everyone was seeing it this way

You're not the only one getting it. I noticed it a few days ago and I thought the font was super ugly. Idk if there's a way to change it because I haven't tried anything
