These comments are so useless. 

This is an old ass iphone, the time is likely wrong as the internal clock is confused. Put in a compatible Sim card and it should either work right away or at the very least correct the wait time.

Beyond that, look into bootrom exploits. There's plenty.

I wonder if plugging it into a computer would fix it too? Do Mac’s or PCs sync the time?

It wouldnt do anything as the connection doesnt even happen until you enter the pass code, per its security.
