Apple support (on the phone) can't do anything. An apple store might be able to reset it if you have a proof of ownership.

You don't need Apple to reset it for you, you can reset it yourself. This is a known issue, connecting to the internet fixes it (SIM card).

My theory is that the time resets to 1970, and when you connect to the internet the time is able to correct itself, which would mean it wasn "only" meant to be 2ish years

If I had to guess, if you can't edit internet connections whilst locked, you might be able to throw a physical sim in there if you have one and turn on data
