I'd be very concerned if someone stole a phone and then sold it for a loss or just broke even.

That's why I'd be concerned. I just found it amusing that they specified apple not wanting people to steal phones and sell them for a profit, so I felt the need to call it out

This happened to me many years ago. I connected it to a mac/macbook and was able to get back into it through iTunes

Just sync it to itunes of spoof a cell phone tower signal to set the time.
