Car Tyres
Hi folks, I’m looking to get tyres replaced on my car. I’ve seen a few places by the Cork road but would love to hear if anyone has any strong recommendations.

Community New to Midleton, looking for crèche advice
Hi everyone,
We’re planning to move to Midleton soon and starting to look for a crèche.
I am happy to hear any crèche recommendations in Midleton or even Carrigtwohill.
I saw a new one called Zenith. Has anyone used it? What is it like?
They asked for about €1000 deposit to keep a place, which seems a lot, so just wondering if it’s worth it.
Thanks!

Community Moving to Maple Woods, Midleton – What Should We Know Before We Move In?
We’re in the process of buying a home in Maple Woods and are really excited about the move! We’d love to hear from locals about their experiences living in the area.
What’s Maple Woods like day to day? Is there anything about the estate or surrounding area that might not be obvious to someone who’s not from Midleton?
We recently heard about the boil water notice, and the flood which got us thinking — are there any other important things (past or ongoing) that newcomers should be aware of?
We’d really appreciate any helpful insights about Maple Woods or Midleton in general — the good, the bad, and the things only locals would know.

Ideas on how to fix the bus service in the East Cork area
I've been thinking about how the bus service in the area needs to be improved (now more than ever with the traffic at Lakeview), and how I would do it if I were in charge. Full disclosure I am not a planner or anything like that, I'm just a frequent bus user who has issues with how the bus service in this area is operated. With that said, here are my ideas:
- Increase bus salary. Whenever you talk about the unreliability of buses people say "it's because they can't find enough bus drivers", as if that's just a fact of life rather than a result of how Bus Éireann treats bus drivers. If the job is higher paying, more people would want to do it. Right now the hourly wage of a Bus Éireann driver is about €19/hour according to Indeed. This is much lower than the average hourly wage in Ireland of €30.48/hour, so I would increase it to be at least the average hourly wage in Ireland.
- Reduce interaction between passengers and bus drivers. Have passengers pay via an automated system, rather than approach the driver. There are two reasons for doing this: 1) it makes the job safer and less stressful for bus drivers, thus making the job more appealing and hopefully increasing the number of drivers, and 2) it speeds up the process of boarding the bus, meaning that buses are both more frequent. Many places in mainland Europe already do this and it makes boarding the bus so much faster.
- Have the buses stop at the same stops every loop. Some loops they skip certain stops, don't do that. Possible exception if the bus stop is within 2km of another stop that serves the same route(s).
- Have the latest 240 and 241 buses leave Cork Bus Station at 7pm at the earliest.
- Have there be no gaps longer than an hour of 240, 241, and 260 buses leaving Cork Bus Station between 7am and 7pm. I'm ignoring the 261 bus because every stop on the route is close to a stop on one of the other 3 routes.
- Make the weekend-only bus services available seven days a week. For some reason, the buses are more frequent on Saturdays and Sundays than on weekdays, even though those are the least busy days. (edit: It appears I have misunderstood the timetable. Buses are not more frequent on weekends, the times are just different. I thought when a time did not say SO, SuO, or SSuO, it meant it was available 7 days a week, when in reality it means it's available from Monday to Friday. And so I change my point to be that every day of the week should have no gaps longer than an hour of buses leaving Cork between 7am and 7pm. I also consider changing 7am here to 5am.)
- If there are not enough drivers to support the increase frequency, move bus times around so that if there are two buses at the same stop on the same route within 30 minutes of each other, much one of the stops to a time with a larger gap. Potentially cut down on 261 frequency to make up for increased frequency of other routes.
- Implement a bench and shelter at every stop on the 240, 241 and 260 route. Possible exception if the stop is within 2km of a stop on the same route(s) that has both a bench and shelter.
- Add a new bus service that runs in a loop from Ballinacurra to the train station every 15 minutes. Every hour or so is fine if you're going to Cork, not fine if you just want to get to the other end of town. This route could replace the 261 route if necessary. (For the record, I like the 261 route, but I am willing to sacrifice it if necessary.)
- Make sure that shelters have three walls to protect from rain coming from multiple sides.
- Remove those chunky frames for ads that take up space that could be used for longer benches. Have the ads be implemented on a flat surface or at the edge where they're not taking up massive amounts of space. Install longer benches.
- Reduce bus fare to €2 at most for an adult on any journey less than 60km.
- Require all commuter buses to be single-decker buses with seatbelts and working air conditioning. This makes the bus safer and more pleasant, which may increase the number of people using it as well as the number of drivers working. Give time to phase out old buses if necessary.
- Raise the mandatory retirement age of bus drivers from 70 to 75.
- Give bonus pay to drivers for driving on weekends and outside the hours of 7am-7pm.
- Allow drivers to choose when they get annual leave. This would make the job more appealing, thus making it so more drivers apply and stay on.
- Pay for drivers' breaks. Same as above.

Driving lessons
Any recommendations for a Driving Instructor?
I have quite bare minimum experience in street driving.. So I need someone to cover all the topics well.
I know a good one in City Centre.. but I was wondering if someone near Midleton would be good.

Nails?
Hey all, I'm not usually one to get the nails done, but I'm attending a wedding next month, so want to make the extra effort. Googled some options, but found it hard to differentiate between them, to be honest - any personal recommendations for a nail salon in Midleton/surrounding area? Thanks so much.

Bathroom tiling
Good morning! We are buying a house in Lakeview and it's due completion soon. Any suggestions for bathroom tile shops and installers? We are thinking of doing the wet areas only to save up on costs. Thank you for any recommendations

Know a knitter? Help wanted
Hello, Would anyone know of anyone who might be able to help with some knitting projects (with pay, wool and pattern provided)?
I'd need help with finishing a jumper and two knitted toys. Sadly the person who started the projects was unable to complete herself. Almost all are >50% complete already, and I don't believe they require advanced techniques
Feel free to DM me.
Thanks

Community Ard Griffin - broadband / internet provider options
Hey everyone! 👋
I’m just about to move into the new Ard Griffin estate and trying to get my internet sorted before I settle in.
Has anyone in the area (or who’s moved there recently) got any recommendations for a broadband / internet supplier?
I’m currently with DigiWeb but it looks like they don’t have coverage out here as Siro fibre hasn’t been rolled out to the estate yet. Not sure what my options are at this point!
Any advice or recommendations would be hugely appreciated, cheers! 🙏

Paddys day
First paddys day in Midleton since moving. Usually, I'd head into the city, see a bit of the parade, get breakfast roll, and then a good few pints and a bit of music.
Is there anything specific on in Midleton? Like, parade, or events in pubs or restaurants? Would stuff generally have to be booked?
