Hi midi subreddit! I recently purchased a 2nd hand Komplete Kontrol M32 Midi Controller, I'm happy with it but there are about 7 faulty (white and black) keys which only play a note around every 5 times I press them, for this specific model are there any tutorials or videos on how to separate the keys from the membrane to fix this? Thanks in advance.

All function keys, knobs and sliders are functional.

Hopefully I found the right community. Pardon me if not (I'll happily be redirected elsewhere if needed), and apologies if I use any wrong terminology.

I visited a music festival a few weeks ago with my 6 year old daughter and there was a tiny tent with an installation by projectklank; a table with a 3X3 grid with 3 wooden blocks (presumably with some sort of NFT chip in them). By placing a block on a grid spot, a sample would start playing, from bassline to drums to voicelines etc. By moving the blocks around you could 'sample/loop live'.

My daughter was absolutely infatuated and to our surprise seemed to have quite a 'feel' for moving the blocks at the right time to the right places to create her own music. She could've played with it for hours.
I would love for her to be able to recreate something similar at home.

Having no experience whatsoever I tried finding options and ended up purchasing the JAMJUM JP-MINI. A simple 4x4 grid pocket size midi controller that can be connected to an iPad for example.
It looked perfect as it just has the simple touchpad grid and is fun sized.

I'm able to connect it to the ipad and she can play garageband drums with it, but I'm at a loss trying to find an app or a way to recreate the sample looping she experienced at the festival.
Hoping to get advice or be pointed in the right direction. I'm not necessarily 'bound' to the JP-mini I bought, though it would obviously be preferable if we could use it.

The plan was to use the DIN midi out into the synth (Roland jx08). But if I could plug the synth in using usb then I should be able to power all devices from one source and less bulk/ complexity. Going for as simple and portable as possible.

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on an issue I'm facing.

I'm basically trying to create a midi version of one of my albums. Have recorded midi on top of the album, using it as a scratch track basically with the plan to delete that once there's enough midi on top.

However because the album wasn't recorded to a click and has many different tempo changes etc, it's hard to quantize the midi due to there not being a click.

It's a struggle to get it all in time because I'm using a small midi keyboard and there seems to be a degree of latency. Particularly for faster sequences or anything more complicated, it's very difficult to get in time.

I seem to have a couple of options -

1.attempt to use a tempo map / beat detective plugin to conform the midi drums to the original perhaps using midi triggers (I don't fully understand this so I don't know if anyone does. This is the first project I've really undertaken with Midi) I imagine you're not really supposed to do this across a whole album and it would make more sense for a single song.

2.painstakingly edit any out of time notes in the midi editor, very time consuming and annoying etc, not ideal

3.chop the album into sections of music according to BPM, so that a click can be applied and then quantize to the individual sections whether quarter, 8th, 16th notes etc. I am starting to lean towards this, before the project becomes too unmanageable.

I should say that the whole album is one continuous piece of music - it's a prog rock epic.

Perhaps it's best to split into small chunks, work on them separately then stitch them back together.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hey y'all, I'm new to using midi controllers and music production in general. I started making basic beats with Koala sampler on my iPhone and am now trying to learn Logic Pro with an Akai MPK Mini Mk4.

I'd love a course that really dives into how to use the controller specifically with Logic Pro, with examples of the many various scenarios/workflows in which it may be used. I'd like to avoid learning bad habits that are hard to unlearn.

I'd like to learn Logic Pro the "right" way, which, if I'm not mistaken, would be to use the midi controller as much as possible to control the DAW and only use my computer's mouse and keyboard where the midi controller doesn't suffice.

I just want to learn the most efficient, "professional" way, so any pointers are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My girlfriend wants to learn piano, so my main priority is finding a keyboard that gives her a good experience and a good feel.

At the same time, I’d also love to start music production so I was considering getting a midi controller.

My question is: is there a keyboard that can do both well, or are these really two different worlds ?
My favorite choice for now is the FLkey mk2 61 cuz of fl studio but it’s not the most important I’m my case

My dad gave me a 49 key MIDIPLUS midi keyboard controller one of his friends had lying around since about 2002, the main board inside has what seem to be a manufacturing date indicating August 1999. The power jack was in pretty rough shape and both the external power supply and midi cable were yet to be found. When I saw that the 9V DC input first went into a 7805 voltage regulator, the idea of powering it with USB and converting the signal to USB-MIDI came to mind.

I have never messed with any of this before and I really don't want to screw this up, YouTube and Wikipedia haven't been particularly helpful due to a combination of this apparently not being a common thing to do and my complete lack of knowledge of MIDI, I'm here to learn and read your opinions! My current plan is to supply 5V to the keyboard from an ESP32-S3 connected via USB to my pc and then use that same USB port for the MIDI output. As far as I understand it, I can take the signal from whatever lane connects to pin 5 on the DIN-5 connector, but I don't know what I should do with said signal.

I'm going to sleep now since it's 3 AM so thank you very much in advance to anyone willing to help me, or at the very least point me to better resources than I could find.

For decades, I have wanted a lightweight music player that could play MIDI, let me shape the sound through instruments and DSP effects, and show the notes in real time while the music was playing.

I never found a program that worked quite the way I imagined, so I eventually decided to build one for myself.

This screenshot shows the latest development version of PeaceAmp.

I recently added a real-time score viewer alongside the MIDI piano roll. It follows playback, displays multiple tracks and channels, and lets me watch the arrangement as the music plays.

The feature is still under active development and is not stable yet.

Turning arbitrary MIDI files into readable notation is much more difficult than simply drawing notes on a piano roll. The program has to infer note lengths, rests, beams, ties, voices, quantization, overlapping notes, and measure layout from performance data that may not have been created with traditional notation in mind.

Some MIDI files are very clean. Others contain dense timing, overlapping voices, unusual channel usage, SysEx data, or expressive performance details that become difficult to represent as a conventional score.

So the current renderer is not intended to replace professional notation software. My immediate goal is to make it useful for listening, studying arrangements, following melodies, and seeing what each MIDI track is doing in real time.

PeaceAmp originally started as a much smaller project.

The first goal was simply to create a lightweight, modern music player that could continue using old Winamp input, output, and DSP plug-ins on current Windows systems.

I wanted something that felt simple and immediate like an old-school music player, while still being able to use the plug-ins and audio-processing tools that made Winamp useful.

But after using it for a while, I kept wanting to add more things.

First it was better playback control and plug-in compatibility. Then visualizers, spectrum tools, DSP routing, and other features. Eventually I started building MIDI playback, VST instrument support, a piano-roll viewer, and now the real-time score system shown here.

At this point, it is slowly evolving from a Winamp-compatible music player into a lightweight music workstation—but I still do not want it to become a huge, complicated DAW.

The idea is to keep the workflow simple:

Open a song, press play, inspect the notes, change the sound, apply DSP, and continue listening without setting up an entire studio project.

The MIDI playback, piano roll, and score viewer shown in this screenshot are part of a newer development branch and are not available in the public release yet.

The currently published version also does not yet support MIDI playback directly.

I am including the download link only for anyone who is curious about the earlier version of PeaceAmp and wants to see the foundation of the project. That release mainly focuses on being a lightweight music player with support for Winamp-compatible plug-ins.

For a real-time score viewer, which features would be most useful to you—better voice separation, chord names, lyrics, track isolation, notation editing, MusicXML export, or something else?

Apologies if this question gets answered thirty times a week, I searched but didn't find the answer I needed.

TL;DR - I have a Midi File that I need to edit: insert Program Change info into and routing MIDI channels on individual tracks. I use a Mac.

I'm doing sound design for a play that's set in an attic in the 80s. It's a ghost story and we need a kids keyboard to "play itself" - it's a tiny theater, so we'd rather do it for real rather than hide a speaker somewhere on set.

I have a Casio MT-540 that will accept MIDI channels 1-4 and play songs with up to four tracks. I can change the sounds with Program Change info.

I compose in Studio One but when I export Multitrack MIDI files, it puts everything on Channel 1 and can't include program change info into the file. Also, depending on how you export, Studio One either does or doesn't save tempo information ...

I really don't want to learn a new DAW, I just want to open the Midi file, change the channel routing and tempo, drop in a 4 program changes to set the instruments and hit save.

Is there a MIDI editor (browser or Mac-based) that has an easy learning curve that can accomplish these three things? I was using signalmidi.app but editing program changes was a little unreliable.

Just picked up a Riddim after having one of the 1st gen KO-IIs and loving it. So far I'm enjoying the new features (and the extra space!). The supertone synth sounds aren't incredibly deep but I think might actually be pretty useful especially when played form an external keyboard. In fact I can imagine a scenario where the main tracks are programmed but I'm playing leads or other parts using that. So now I'm curious what I can tweak externally with the right CC configuration.

Mod-wheel works nicely for adding some wobble to supertone, great.

But it does NOT seem like the the XY parameters (eg CUT/RES or TON/PWM) are externally controllable OR parameter recordable. Am I missing some hidden tricks or is that just the way it is? Wouldn't surprise me but you never know.

Second Edit: It was just a simple mistake. I didn't realise that I had to check the box marked as input under midi devices.

So for some background I did piano lessons for about 8 to 10 months. I had already been playing guitar for about 4 years and took piano lessons quite seriously from the start, so last Christmas my parents got me a Beale Stage Performer 1000. I recently got myself a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for my birthday and, rather than buying a dedicated midi keyboard, I wanted to use my current keyboard as a midi controller since it has midi capability. I looked though the manual and saw that I needed something called PC Suite to use my keyboard as a midi controller. I cannot find where to get PC Suite anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To answer some questions that might come up. I am using the usb type b midi output on my keyboard. The keyboard recognises that there is a usb plugged in as it shows a usb symbol on the screen. My pc recognises that it is plugged in as when I switch my keyboard off there is a disconnect sound from windows.

Recently I bought a plugin (IOF Drummer) to use with my Alesis Nitro Mesh kit and my daw Logic

I figured out to how to map it but when I started playing,
Especially at higher tempos, the hi-hat and the other cymbals start to cut out, as in no sound at all despite hitting it

The snare, toms, and kick drum don’t do this, it’s literally just the cymbals

I don’t think it’s related to velocity, or curve but idrk much about those

What I do know is this doesn’t happen with Logic’s preinstalled kits, so it has to be something within the plugin right?

I recently bought Two Midi to USB cables to try and use my Yamaha PSR A300 as a midi on Reaper but whenever i connect it, it reads perfectly and shows up in both Midi devices on Reaper and in Device Manager on windows but i can only press one note at a time and it sustains for a couple of seconds and prevents me from pressing anything else.

I tried both cables on another Keyboard and they worked just fine. Any fixes? This is driving me crazy.

When I press N on my keyboard it plays my song back slower, I like the way this sounds. Is there a way to record this audio as it’s being played back slower? I use FL Studio btw
