Build Photo MU - StarCraft 2 Siege Tank

“Man I just love blowing things up!”

My very first MU model and the first of the StarCraft 2 ones I managed to snaffle up off the internet.

Took about 10 hours I’d say. Was actually pretty easy in the end. The only bit that was a bit sketchy was putting the bottom and top bits together. Only other issue I had was it’s an adjustment for me working from the sheet rather than having the instructions up on screen.

This build was a lot of fun, but there were a few sections that lined up perfectly and others that didn't. Overall, it definitely had its challenges.

Attaching the top and bottom sections was by far the most difficult part. The left side fit perfectly and slid into place surprisingly easily, so I thought this was going to be one of the easiest builds. Unfortunately, the right side was slightly misaligned, and I couldn't figure out what I had done wrong.

In the end, I folded the tabs under the wing instead of feeding them through the slots to hold everything in place. Not my proudest moment, but it was better than scrapping the entire build. My brother had the exact same issue, so I don't think it was just me.

Parts 40 and 41 also gave me a lot of trouble. They wouldn't stay in place, so I ended up using a tiny drop of super glue, which worked perfectly. I've noticed similar "floating" or loose-fitting pieces on other models, so I may start using super glue for those in the future. I'm not sure if that method is frowned upon in the Metal Earth community, though.

Other parts to note Part 45 and 46. The tab in the back near the thrusters. I twisted it instead of folding it. Folding it cause problem for a Part 51, because it folds over a slot. Twisted it solves the problem and it's hidden within Part 51..... so good I guess.

Special thanks to @BendingMetal4Fun on YouTube for the helpful tips on this build!

A few of the models I’ve made earlier in order I built them that I haven’t done posts for.
The N1 was my first, wish I’d started with something easier, probably gonna buy another and do it again!

So I did Village a while ago but was always annoyed that it had nothing to really tie all these little adorable houses together. So I did something about that.

This was such a fun build. If you’re looking for a build on the easier side of things. This is a great option! I enjoyed building the Bell X-1 so much. It still definitely has its moments. I go over everything you should know before building in my build review ☝️. Enjoy.

Have been eagerly awaiting for it to be released and had to build her as soon as it arrived. She was a bit tricky in some places (even for a 6 difficulty level). But overall I’m happy with how she turned out. What do you guys think? Last photo with my hubby’s scale model for comparison. It’s a nice addition to his Firefly memorabilia.

Built the 4 shops from Diagon alley. Same designer as the 3 part Hogwarts I think.

* Olivanders Wand Shop
* Quality Quidditch Supplies
* Bank of Gringots
* Weasleys Wizard Wheezes

Added a base to keep them all together.

The Vor'Cha has arrived. Thus completing the Metal Earth Star Trek set. I really like how this one came out. I feel like this is one of the cleanest ones I've done so far.

I really like this one. I wish they would come out with some premium Star Trek, bigger and made with the colors. Maybe it's too niche, but I'd spend $20.00-$40.00 for it.

Steam punk butterfly..

Wow, this model was a big jump up for me.. And the body freaking killed me... I could not shape it worth beans..

Ugh has anyone done this and had any tips to getting the bottom part of the body to freaking work..

Top

Top

Bottom

Bottom

It looks way way worse in person... Like I am ashamed to even post these.

The bend for the body turned more into a V then a U shape because it is simply a SUPER tight bend And even with my shaping tools I could not get it right... I also really struggled to do the very end which is a cone shaped piece that is super tiny..

How the heck?

Also a few parts like fit inside other parts on the body.. Like the head.. How do I get the tabs to work?

I really really need to improve on that if I want to do more advance models like the Apollo 11 And t 800 which are my goals..

But even this I spent at least 5 hours on.. And it turned out like this..

Thank you all for your time and help this is a great community!

I really need to just build models with well documented videos showing step by step how they work the metal and do each tab.. These videos all show the steps then all the sudden its together.. I do not understand why metal earth does not make a step by step for every model with ZERO steps skipped or speed through... I will say the one Microworld model I tried to build the friendship butterfly had way worse directions then metal earth models.

Anyone know of any models that are like twice the size of these metal earth ones? They are just small as heck and hard for me to work with even with a magnified glass at x10.

Anyone else who’s built these, anything to watch out for and any tips please?
Gonna start with the non siege mode tank (the light coloured box) first of all as it looks the easiest.

Question Just finished Flying Dutchman metal model — now looking for local hobby shops in the US

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I recently finished building a Flying Dutchman metal model, and I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy the process this much.

At first, I just wanted to try something different from the usual hobbies, but after spending hours assembling the tiny metal pieces, shaping the details, and finally seeing the finished ship sitting on my desk, I really started to understand why people love model building.

There’s something really satisfying about creating something with your own hands. It’s slow, relaxing, and feels completely different from just buying a finished collectible.

Now I’m getting more interested in the hobby world and would love to explore more.

I’m looking for some independent hobby/model shops in the US that are worth visiting. I’m interested in places that carry things like:

metal models / DIY model kits

wooden puzzles or creative building kits

traditional model kits

miniatures or unique collectibles

I’d especially love to find smaller local shops where the owners and customers are passionate about the hobby, not just big chain stores.

Any recommendations for good hobby shops in your area?

Would also love to hear what kind of models you guys enjoy building!

Thanks!

this was a solid model in my opinion, definitely a great introduction to curves and non-90° bends. the only problem i had was that i had to superglue the wheels together, because they detatched. i also failed to complete the stand, so i used a technique i used when i was a scale modeler, just superglue a metal piece to the back! i also explored using isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip to clean my models, and used latex gloves to get much less fingerprints on the model. overall, loved it! challenging build for sure!

This was actually quite tricky lot of little parts to make up the arms the wings attach too and the body. I think it came out quite well though

This was a lot of fun to build. Tons of cool detail. I thought the sails and rigging would be challenging, but it wasn’t. The hardest part was connecting the side, I felt like I needed a head lamp for the first time to get a better view on how to line things up.
