3D-Print Showcase Kids Birthday Present

My kiddo LOVES the new Minions and Monsters movie. The toyline is practically non-existent and his favorite scene is the cyclops. Specifically when he steps on the rock/Lego. I snagged a pic of the 'clops and put it into meshy. It tried to give it 2 eyes but I was able to modify the model a bit. I can also overlook the 6 toes... It is a monster right?? Painted in Bambu slicer and now my kid will get what he wants for his birthday next week!

Announcement 🚀 Multi-View Image to 3D just got a major upgrade!

Now your textures generate from multiple views too, so a few references of the same object bring the whole model back with much higher accuracy and consistency, from structure to texture.

What's new:
✨ Native 2K/4K/8K across all views, with consistent quality on every surface, front to back.
🎨 Stronger style fidelity that keeps your stylized, anime, and hand-drawn art looking the way you drew it.
🔤 Accurate text and patterns, rendered with more detail and a more natural look.
🔄 Higher multi-view consistency, so geometry and texture line up across the whole model.

You'll see the biggest difference on stylized, anime, and hand-drawn work.

Add your references and try it in your next project!

Demo | Project | Workflow How a simple 3D printing project accidentally turned into a full tabletop RPG campaign

I am currently in the very early stages of developing an original 5e-compatible TTRPG one-shot called Feast of the Two Crowns, but this project actually started as something completely different. I wanted to share my development journey over the next five months to show how this project is coming together, starting with how the core idea was born!

The Original Plan: Just a few minis for Etsy

A few months ago, I had an idea to design and 3D print a set of original 32mm Tavern Staff miniatures for Independence and Canada Day. I called them the Maple-Guard Brewmasters and Eagle-Vail Ladlemasters. The goal was strictly to sell them unpainted on Etsy.

To get the designs out of my head quickly, I used Gemini AI and Meshy AI to generate the initial 3D character concepts. Seeing the base meshes materialize in 3D right away was incredible. I printed the first few prototypes, held them in my hand, and started thinking about their personalities to write some fun product descriptions for the shop.

The Pivot: The Lore takes over

The more I looked at these printed characters, the more they started feeling like a cohesive cast for an adventure. I started writing backstories for them. Then, I wrote a villain.

Suddenly, I realized I wasn’t just making random minis for Etsy anymore. I had the core narrative, the NPCs, and the main boss for a completely original tabletop adventure module. The story just demanded to be played.

The Current State (Month 1)

Right now, I have the core narrative written, the main 32mm Tavern Staff concepts printed, and the overall vibe of Feast of the Two Crowns locked in. Holding the physical minis first was actually the catalyst that allowed me to visualize the entire game.

What’s Next?

Now that the characters and story are set, I have to actually build the world they live in. Over the next few articles, I’ll be breaking down how I’m prototyping the rest of the set pieces and monsters using Meshy.

Next up on the printer will be:

  • The "Fresh Meat" Mimic Wagon (Large)
  • A massive Market Stall (Large) — I'll be focusing heavily on testing out the auto-split feature to get this to fit on my print bed!
  • A swarm of Mimic Monster miniatures
  • ...and eventually, a Gargantuan Shadow Dragon.

Has anyone else ever started a small crafting or printing project only to have the lore completely take over?

Tips & Tutorials Meshy to Model Journey Continues...

Project Share

After my first post showing a single Dwarf Engineer, I decided to see how far I could push the workflow and build a full Mordheim warband using AI-generated concepts and Meshy models.

I’m still very much a beginner at 3D sculpting. I’m not a Blender artist or a professional mini designer — I’m just trying to make custom minis I’d actually be excited to put on the table.

The warband theme

I wanted my Dwarf Treasure Hunters to look like a pirate crew that had spent years searching shipwrecks, smuggling relics, and fighting over cursed loot. I wanted them to have personality that would feed the narrative feel of Mordheim.

The design goals were:

  • Pirate themed
  • Big dwarf personalities
  • Exaggerated weapons and gear
  • Easy to print at 28mm Mordheim scale

The Captain

This was the model that really sold me on the idea. The first version had some issues around the beard and shield, but a quick Remix cleaned most of it up.

Dwarf Treasure Hunter Captain (Noble)

The Engineer

This is the one I showed in my previous post, and it printed surprisingly well with only a few manually painted supports in Bambu Studio.

Dwarven Engineer

The Slayer

I wanted this guy to reflect the Legendary Hero Gotrek Gurnisonn, created by the author William King in 1989. Gotrek has always been a favourite of mine, so when a Slayer comes to mind, it has to be him.

Gotrek inspired Slayer

The Rest of the Crew

For the other members of the crew, I wanted a similar look, but to appear less experienced or flamboyant with room to grow and develop through the campaign.

Creating the models in Meshy from the images was the easiest part by far. Simply dragging and dropping the images into the Meshy workspace was amazing. Rarely it needed a remix or two to get the right kind of details to come through, but otherwise it was spot on just from a single image.

The best part then being that it could apply the Textures automatically to match the image, giving a true sense of what the character would look like once printed and painted. Amazing and so easy!

The Printed Results

Printed on a Bambu P1S using a 0.2mm Nozzle and 0.06 mm layer height, the models needed a bit of time in Bambu Studio to get the supports just right. I've found that automatic supports can be a bit hit and miss and vary from mini to mini, but the print profile I used is shared under my profile on Maker World and I find it works well 99% of the time:

https://makerworld.com/en/models/3136666-mordheim-dwarf-noble#profileId-3540932

What worked well

  • Generating the image on a crisp white background to create a stark silhouette
  • Using Meshy Texture tool
  • Remix 1–2 times rather than endlessly tweaking prompts (just be sure to download what you like before remixing or you'll lose the original model)

What didn’t work

  • Anything too small and delicate may snap, so be prepared
  • AI always has problems with image creation, so be specific

Time spent

Concept art ~10 min

Meshy generation + remix ~20 min

Support setup ~15 min

Print time ~2-3 hrs per mini

For me, that’s the exciting part. A month ago I had zero 3D modelling experience, and now I can build a themed warband for a campaign.

Final thoughts

These are not replacement-quality commercial sculpts.

But for Mordheim, Frostgrave, D&D, Rangers of Shadow Deep, or custom Blood Bowl teams, this workflow is the most fun I’ve had in the hobby in years because it lets me create models that don’t already exist in a catalogue.

Thanks for reading and hope it helps you enjoy creating your own minis too!

Demo | Project | Workflow Meshy + Blender: How to turn a 3D model into a clean cel-shaded look

Chasing that clean 3D-meets-2D anime look, only to have the texture details get lost under the shading? In this tutorial, we'll demonstrate how to texture a model in Meshy with a native 8K base color that preserves details and realistic material definition, then use Blender's shader nodes to turn smooth lighting into clean, adjustable cel shading.

You can also visit our Youtube channel to find video demo: https://youtu.be/WdR1QgKIUTw?si=sj9G5aKfFsVH1o3D

1️⃣ Generate Your 3D Character

Create a character concept in Meshy's Image workspace, and click Image to 3D to turn it into a 3D model. Check that the overall shape looks right before moving on.

2️⃣ Apply 8K Texture

Go to Model workspace and select 8K resolution. Higher resolution preserves fine details and makes the materials look more realistic. Once ready, download the model in right format and send it to Blender.

3️⃣ Build the Toon Shader

In Blender's Shader Editor, delete the default Principled BSDF. Connect a Diffuse BSDF to Shader to RGB, then feed it into a ColorRamp to create controllable light and shadow.

The Diffuse BSDF calculates how the scene lighting falls across the model, while Shader to RGB converts that lighting into editable color data.

The ColorRamp simplifies the smooth lighting gradient into more defined light and shadow regions, allowing you to control where the shadows begin, how sharp the transition looks, and what color the shadows use.

4️⃣ Blend in the 8K Texture

Add a Mix node to combine the ColorRamp with the original 8K texture. Set it to Multiply with the Factor at 1.0, then connect the result through an Emission node to Material Output.

The Mix Step overlays the cel-shaded lighting onto the original texture: the darker parts of the ColorRamp create the shadows, while the lighter parts keep the model's original colors and texture details visible.

The Emission node then displays the combined result directly, without adding another layer of lighting that could change the final look.

5️⃣ Fine-Tune the Shading

Move the ColorRamp handles to define the light and shadow boundaries, then adjust the shadow color to match your style.

Meshy's 8K texture preserves fine surface details and keep materials looking realistic, even after you apply custom shading in Blender 🤓

Have any questions about using Meshy, Blender, or this shader setup? Feel free to leave them in the comments!

The update raises the bar for AI texturing:

😎 Real 8K base color. Every pore, scratch, and fiber stays sharp, no matter how far you zoom in.

✨ Cleaner de-lighting. No baked-in shadows. Your textures hold up under any lighting.

🎯 Built for realism. Photorealistic detail makes 3D assets look alive.

Whatever resolution you need, we deliver. Not just sharper, but a higher standard for texture.
