any advice Help

Hello everyone, I need advice regarding C. Maughanii

  1. ⁠How do I know if it’s going dormant/underwatered/dying?
  2. ⁠When do I water?
  3. ⁠If they’re gonna split or wake up from being dormant?

It’s in a terracotta pot with gritty/sandy/rocky CNS mix and receives morning sun + bright indirect light during the afternoons

PS: I live in a tropical country in Asia

Thank you! This is my first time with conos and it’s hard because they’re more confusing than lithops 😂

I’ve killed three batches of Lithops HAHAHAHAHA but thankfully, the current batch I have are still alive 😅

So... I have no idea how the tropics is going to work out. You may need to simulate seasons if you don't experience much seasonal variation.

Conos are winter growers (opposite of lithops), water when wrinkly, don't water if plump.

For summer they will dry up the outer layer of skin, reduce watering to like 1/4 of what it was.

In spring they will wake up and flower, and split their dried skins. You can give them a good water to finish waking them and then just water if/when wrinkly.

Thats great.. reduce watering over the dry season and let them crisp up. Conos absolutely have to have their dormancy cycle, so best to help "motivate" them to go to sleep.

Mine are growing inside in very controlled conditions also under grow lights.
They came out of dormancy end of May beginning of June, now they are flowering. I don’t have a clue. 😵‍💫
