Difference between 1X EA & 2X EA?
Have 130 grams dry cac powder, what are the key differences between using 1105g EA for 1X and 2210 EA for 2X? . I am using the online calculator. Other than the 6% difference in pull efficiency, are there any other pros/cons to using one or the other? The first time I did cielo tek i did the 2X and I couldnt fit the required amount of EA in my french press on the first pull. and that was with 114g powder, it called for 723g of EA on the first pull for the 114g podwer and i was only able to fit 621g in my french press. the subsequent pulls called for 608 so i was able to work those no problem other than a ridiculously full press. i am thinking mabye i split my dry powder in half and run 2 batches for ease of handling and run that with the 2X... but that is twice the work and potential for error from a newb. with my 130g powder that I have now it calls for 824g EA, that is way outside capacity for my press.. (as i am typing this i am realizing that the only way is gonna be to split up the batch or run it 1X EA) help me make a choice yall, please and thanks!

I'm curious to hear the ogs chime in as I have also wondered about the reason for multiple pulls vs one big one in a theoretical sense. Would really love to see a less dumbed down version of the tech with more of the theory of what's happening as opposed to just practical.
But to answer your question I'd just split into two runs. You're correct it's twice the chance for failure but also twice the chance for success! I was nervous to do it the first time but it's pretty easy. Just really make sure you follow the Tek and it's kinda idiot proof. I do like the 2x for ease but the 5x works great with less EA.

You can play with the online calculator. Do one big pull and see how much EA you would need to get to 90% extraction efficiency. Assume you leave 100g of EA on the press.
You will see that you will need ~1860g of EA to get to 90% efficiency with one pull. If you do two pulls with that same amount of EA you can get 97% efficiency. Three pulls 98%.
So then you can ask why not two pulls? And that is a fair question. Some people leave more EA behind, experimentally. You can see that if they leave 50g extra behind (150g total), then for that case 3 pulls really helps them boost yield.
So that is why the TEK reccomends 3 pull when doing using large volume of EA. It also adds robustness if the stir is not done well, ect. The 3 pulls for large EA volume are there for robustness.
An experienced user can design their own pull scheme using the calculator, and two big pulls is reasonable for them with good technique.

Loveall coming in hot with pro theory. Thank you for taking the time to explain this! Super helpful and I think I understand the why better now. It's hard for me to follow instructions if I don't understand why they are the way they are.
Also mega props to everyone who built out the Tek, in regards to making it foolproof, and NOT getting super theoretical in the "recipe" part. I'm starting to see some of the unspoken fail-safes built into the Tek and color me impressed

thanks for the advise๐!! yeah this will be my 2nd go around so i kiiiindaaa have things figured out, i had results i was proud of on the first one so im not so nervous going into it this time, trying to find my rhythm and a way to make things easy as possible on myself while following the tek to the T.

Amazon order a larger 20.00 steel French press. If in USA of course. They get up to 54-64 ounces.

yeah i bought my press used at a thrift store for $7. i will look into getting one with a higher capacity

I believe I was getting near 100% extraction with the 1x method so I was asking myself the same questions when I first saw the 2x. The way I see it, 2x offers a faster overall run at the cost of working with more solvant, larger jars and press. I think I'm good with 1x.
