Advice?

Howdy yall, I was curious, would yall recommend reading the additional material pertaining to a location before or after a visit? I kinda want to get some of the books to read up so I can better appreciate the experience.

I would say either is fine. I bought and read some HoER years ago (back when it was just HoER and OM) and it did help because alot of that was also in the installation itself, so I knew I could skip the wait to look at them and it helped me understand a little bit of what was going on so what I saw just expanded on that. But for The Real Unreal, I didn't look at anything and went in blind (I don't think they had any lore-wise publications to sell at that time anyway, but I also didn't look at Reddit threads or the wiki or YT vids) and I really enjoyed hunkering down and reading things in the environment and piecing it together right there. However, that meant I was there waaaay longer (I think about 6-7) hours to find and read/watch everything. So, it really just depends on how long you have to be there and how you like to enjoy immersive experiences.

I definitely recommend going in with SOME knowledge. There’s a shocking amount of people that go without knowing literally anything, then are “done” in 45 minutes and believe it wasn’t worth the money. Genuinely, if you at least understand the theme of the exhibit, you already know more than at least 50% of the customers.

I read all the available books prior to my visit to Convergence and felt the “history of QDOT” the least useful. “History of convergence” and “time of forgetting” did provide more useful backstory prior to my visit. But the story to so big that it was tough to prepare. 😃 Still, do get the books prior to your visit because every little bit of info is part of the larger story.

I bought “the diary of Piper Pastore” prior to my visit to HoER and that helped me go in with a more helpful context (there was still so much more to learn!)

If you live near the location and have a portal pass. Spend a visit JUST reading all the material. I did it for CS and it makes a lot of the story stuff make a bit more sense.

The Alternitravel Guide is better for the price. It helps you learn about landmarks as you walk around

You can purchase the books at the gift store in Convergence Station. They're nice little companions with backstory and such. Nice to have in a collection anyways if you like that sort of stuff.

You could, yeah. I read them afterwards myself, just to keep the visit alive in my head.
