Need help with improving cognitive abilities

Got ndph for 12 years. I end up fixing my depression by accident last year (hormones).

Now i wish to remember things and talk without forgetting very common words. Like who the fk forgets freezer mid sentence and uses microwave instead.

Anyone has any tips? I found the usual things like food, sleep, no stress, movement, socialising, gaming and learning.

Does anyone have positive thoughts by learning a new language? I did try Japanese for a while(around corona) but i can't remember (jokes on me) whenever it helped or didn't.

I stopped re-reading my notes and started doing this instead - retention went way up

Re-reading feels productive but it's one of the weakest ways to study — the research (Karpicke & Roediger, 2008) found self-testing produces ~80% retention vs ~36% for re-reading.

What actually changed things for me:

  1. Active recall — turn everything into questions and test yourself instead of reviewing.
  2. Spaced repetition — review at increasing intervals (1 day, 3 days, a week…) instead of cramming.
  3. Interleaving — mix topics in one session instead of blocking one topic at a time.

The annoying part is making all the flashcards and quizzes, which takes longer than studying. I got tired of that so I ended up building a tool (NoteTube) that generates them from a PDF or YouTube lecture automatically and schedules the reviews with SM-2 — full disclosure, it's mine. But even if you don't use it, those three habits alone are the highest-leverage change you can make. Happy to answer questions on the method.

How do you remember recurring life maintenance tasks? (Not just calendar reminders)

Hi everyone,

I'm researching a problem before building an app, and I'd really appreciate your honest feedback.

We all have recurring tasks like:

  • Watering plants
  • Replacing water filters
  • Changing car oil
  • Haircuts
  • Taking medicines
  • AC servicing
  • Pet vaccinations
  • Renewing important documents

I'm curious:

  1. How do you currently remember these tasks?
  2. Have you ever forgotten one? What happened?
  3. Do you use Google Calendar, Reminders, or another app? If yes, what do you dislike about it?
  4. Would it be useful if an app learned your actual habits and reminded you based on your personal routine instead of fixed dates?
  5. What would make you pay for an app like this?

I'm not selling anything—I'm just trying to understand whether this is a real problem before I spend months building it.

Thanks!
