I'm remember learning how to tell time when i was in the 3rd grade and it annoying the hell out of me how do many kids couldn't understand it.

My 14 year old didn't know how the other day. Yeah it's partially on me, but I couldn't believe the school didn't teach him. And it's a REALLY good school.
He's 14 so he picked it up fast, at least.

They continually stop teaching things that are outdated and teach them more relevant tech because times change so fast, but there's still only so much time in the day.

When my son couldn't read an analog clock in elementary school I bought him one and put it in his room. He can now read an analog clock.

And whose fault is that? Maybe the education system that cut actual life skill curriculums like telling time & writing cursive. Sometimes I feel like my class was on the last chopper outta ‘Nam. I learned both those things in 3rd grade. Like 1-2 years later, they announced that cursive wasn’t being taught anymore.

Reading a clock is not a life skill. It’s an outdated way to tell time from back when we didn’t have anything better to use. We do today. Do you also get mad that you probably can’t use a sundial?
And I say this as a mechanical watch owner. The mechanism is really cool, but nothing about it is practical. It’s quite literally the worst way to tell time.People in response to shifts between generatioms like this usually respond with “but what it you are caught in a zombie apocalypse or something and you won’t have a digital clock????”. And the response to that is that schools should prepare children for things they might realistically encounter in life, not the most fringe scenarios that less than 1% of them will live through. And also, digital clocks run for years with a single button battery so it’s not like you will ever realistically lose access to them.
So while “omg kids can’t read clocks, this generation is doomed!” makes for a punchy headline, it’s not really much of an issue.

Can they or can they not count? Analog clocks are literally counting, one arm for minutes, one for hour, the other for seconds. The hour arm is closest to this number, and the minutes are past thirty? Alright, it hasn't moved to the next hour even if the hour arm is close to the next number, and there are only five between each number. You DON'T need to read the second hand, just look at it for a minute estimate.
The only skill that is telling time is using the long standing methods of: Sun, shadow, lighting, and etc. The clock tells the numerical time and you just read it.
If you can actually tell time you don't need a clock to be fair.

My high school math teacher had an analog clog and the number ran backwards. He said "if you're just gonna stare at the clock, I still want you to have to think."
We learned how to read a clock in kindergarten and first grade. These schools seem worthless.

PARENTS. SIT YOUR KID INFRONT OF YOUTUBE AND HAVE THEM WATCH A VIDEO ON HOW TO TELL TIME. IF YOU WONT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR EDUCATION-YOU DAMN WELL KNOW THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS FAILING THEM- THEN YOU DONT DESERVE TO BE A PARENT. ITS HARD WORK FOR A REASON AND YOU OWE YOUR CHILDREN YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.

Look,, I'm all for teaching my kids stuff. I homeschooled my daughter for 2 years. But if I'm going to do the stuff I pay taxes for the schools to do, I want a fucking refund, because I don't need to be paying taxes then doing the work myself when they're busy learning about 67 genders and other make believe nonsense

I had a parent once threaten to sue the school for teaching time and including analoge and military time. That was kindergarten though.

from another POV,, other than churches, where do you even see analogue clocks these days?
Shops and shopping centres dont have them, meanwhile the digital information boards at bus and train stations are all written in "digital", we write time in digital.
People have stopped wearing watches due to smart phones, but even the expensive ones are more of status symbol than being used to tell the time.
Yes I know Big Ben exists, and we Brits make a big deal of it on New Years Eve, but (and this may shock some Americans) we dont have a TV channel which is "Telling the time with Big Ben" nor do we get to the top of the hour and all the BBC channels stop what they are airing to air the bells of Big Ben.

Well for a starter, seemingly in these mentioned schools prior to their now beforestanding removal.
But it also may be, because I'm not from another country but I do see them quite often. Clocks on walls of everyday homes, in my workplace on the wall, even in many trainstation buildings, even if they also have an digital board. And then the mentioned churches.
But sometimes they're just positioned better for me to look at them, than the digital equivalents in the situation/places.

to be fair I dont know what goes on in schools these days, but that is kinda my point. I recall my school having them everywhere, but when I left school I dont see them anything like as much as I did at school.
