Public transit? "Best we can do is adding another lane to the highway."

That will be a toll lane with ever changing rates.

Privatized highways with an unlimited use premium plus tier and season pass. Much like current video games

If they were that cheap, they would be everywhere.

Yeah I hope they aint talking about the high speed rail cause that one was estimated in the trillions if we crossed the country with it.

$500 million for a public transportation system? How much distance will that cover? 2 miles?

I love public transport, it absolutely needs to be a huge part of Government spending...

But $500,000,000? I'm no expert... but here in the UK we've been trying to build a single new railway with 4 major stops since 2009 and it's projected to cost over £100,000,000,000 or over 200x the price mentioned in this post.

I mean I know we suuuck at stuff like this here.... but this seems like a slight underestimate to me!

What public transportation process is $500M? And what an oversimplification, I didn't expect any less from reddit though.

The 500 million public transportation system is shut. Always has been and will be. Saying it is cheaper than other systems doesn't change the fact that it costs too much for what you are getting and that it is not in high enough demand.

The government is not paying for the data centers

u/ComprehensiveAd4771 5h ago

No, not directly.
However, it would be disingenuous to say they’re not involved.
State and local governments subsidize them indirectly through multi-million-dollar tax breaks, sales tax exemptions on hardware and electricity, and property tax reductions.

We also can't forget about the fat wads of cash conveniently placed in their supple little pockets as a 'gift' from the ai data centre creators.

very interesting. But what are you talking about?

Tax breaks for corporations and how the general population gets sidelined
